Jacksonville Show better than Tampa

I went to both shows, and the Jax show just flat out smoked the Tampa show. Prince seemed more into the crowd, a lot more banter, did some songs that weren't done in Tampa. Also threw in the long encore, which Tampa didn't get (The Beautiful Ones and Nothing Compares 2 U instead of just Purple Rain.)

Enjoyed both shows, but Jax was a standout.

Funny you said that as I went to the Fort Lauderdale show then the Tampa show. I thought Tampa performance was better, maybe it was because my Tampa seats were better.

Now the Fort Lauderdale show did get the Beautiful Ones and NC2U and Tampa did not, but I thought the energy and overall performance in Tampa was better.

Wish I could have made it to Jax!

Peace

After many missed chances to see Prince in concert over the years, I FINALLY made it to a show.

I went to the Jax show last night, and I'm still collecting myself off the floor. It was a fabulous show, and I can't believe how unbelievably good he looks and sounds in the flesh. He definitely had the crowd going.

I heard on the local news that he set the attendance record for the new coliseum. Take that, Britney!

The only downer was some drunky behind us stole our cds. mad

typing Being a born and raised child of the City of Angels I have come to expect the 3 hour sets at the major tours (Purple Rain & Emancipation), the unexpected musical guests (Stevie Wonder on vocals at Glam Slam for the Beautiful Experience release with Prince doing a blues guitar response to each of Stevie's verses on Maybe Your Baby) and the delayed encore after the house lights came up at the Universal Amphitheatre which had folks running back down the aisles to their seats for the prince album tour. So needless to say I was a bit worried when I heard Staples Center sold out multiple dates in a day back home in Los Angeles while down here in Jacksonville, FL it didn't seem the event would ever sell out.

Well....will miracles never cease???!!!! It was packed....folks didn't get pissed when the show started an hour after the time listed on the tickets. Rather than get impatient....they grooved..middle aged women chair danced to classics by Cameo and Funkadelic....and when the Burn Rubber exploded from the PA system you'd have thought it was a House Quake.

Then these country folks....yeah folks are kinda country down here, even the locals joke that Jacksonville is just South Georgia LOL.....these country folks partied. His Royal Badness hit the stage and for two hours and ten minutes folks sang, danced, clapped, stomped, grooved and funk'd. These folks had such a good time they didn't even hate when he teased them with a single line from Jailhouse Rock before stopping, laughing and telling them "...just kidding." I don't know if I was more impressed with the tight set performance or the fact that even though it was a PG-13 show it still felt like home.

Maybe just maybe...the lil man from Minneapolis was right when he stated "Ya'll are about to have the time of your lives!"

Maybe...just maybe...Jacksonville grew up last night and became an all grown up metropolis. All because the NPG was in town...and they WERE funky.

Peace & B Wild

See...I was kinda thinking the same thing was gonna happen at the Raleigh, NC show but Raleigh showed Prince hella luv!!! The city doesn't matter...all that matters is how the crowd takes to Prince and how he takes to them. Raleigh was quite moving.
I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.

I agree. Prince seems to enjoy himself more when the crowd really gets into the show and when we all sing a long with him. I notice this during the ONA tour. I attened 2 shows here in Canada. The one in Hamilton was great but pretty mellow in comparison to the show in Toronto. Then, when I heard the Portland and LA (among others) to sing on the ONA (live) CD, it made so much sense as to why he would choose them as part of the recording.

Well, I didn't like the sound in Tampa. I was on the 4th floor in V.I.P. section; Food and wine were great, but it's not good seating.. The sound was distorted perhaps because the music was too loud and I could not hear every instrument. Prince's voice and guitar were higher than the others, and then the drums. But the Keyboards and Horns were at times non-existent. It must have been my seat.

By the way: did any of you read my Open leteer to our Majesty?

What do you all think of the Musicology CD? Or is it just me who thinks this album is below his standard? I'm spoiled, right?

From what I gather from reading reviews, the Jacksonville show was exceptional. I was a little pissed that my seats were behind contest winners and shit; that was a little unfair. But Prince seemed to be in top form. IMHO, One Night Alone was a better show because I don't need to hear him sing Take Me With U and Raspberry Beret. But Question of U and some others I hadn't seen before were awesome.
Did anyone go to the afterparty? Please report!
I'm PRAYING for a dvd of the L.A. show. Please please please!

Could somebody that was at the show help me identify a song.... one of my favorite parts of the show was this really powerful bluesy-soul ballad he did...as best I can tell from my notes, it was after "Sign O' the times". I also have written down that it was during this song that they were adding parts of "Fallin'" by Alicia Keys. Does anyone know what song that was?

As far as the afterparty, the next morning the radio station said P showed up! Have no idea about a jam or anything though.

As far as the J'ville show...it was by far the best show (1st Prince show though) I've EVER seen!!

I'm STILL flying high!!

And does anyone have a setlist from the show?? I was having too good of a time to stop and write anything down!

Thanks!

I have the album (actually, in the two week preceding the concert I collected every Prince album except for The Black Album and N.E.W.S.--still working on those), but because I was digesting so much Prince in so short a time, I didn't get familiar with every song. I listened to it on the album today and I have to say--- the live version is worlds better. I was getting chills at the concert from that performance.
