To those of you who live here in the San Francisco Bay Area,I'm sure you know about the upcoming KBLX "Stone Soul Picnic" on Monday May 31st.It will take place in Hayward and features Rick James,Teena Marie,Isley Brothers,Cameo and Funk Family Affair (not sure who they are).Well,yesterday while I was driving to work,I was listening to KBLX and the morning DJ (I think his name is Kevin Brown?) mentioned that a SURPRISE SPECIAL GUEST would be making an unannounced appearance.He says that this "guest" recently called the station to request two limousines.The DJ wouldn't name the mystery artist,but gave away one big hint....he said that this artist will already be in town because the very next day,he'll be performing his own concert .


Now let's put two and two together...


KBLX Stone Soul Picnic---Monday May 31st (Hayward)
Prince Concert---HP Pavillion June 1st (San Jose)


What do you think? Will Prince get up there and jam with Teena Marie?

It might be an odd situation for Prince to perform at a show that is being headlined by Rick James,lol.Or maybe the two of them will patch things up and perform together,with Teena?

I think the Funk Family Affair consist of some former members of Sly & The Family Stone.

Hmm, I would be excited by this news if
A) I was already going or
2) I thought it would be more than Prince guesting on stage with old members of the family stone and larry g playing 'take me higher'
.. you know, there IS a sly song that sounds an awful lot like Mr. Man (family affair is it?).. maybe he'll perform this song? Anyways, for whomever is going, I hope he shows up!!

It's an interesting coincidence that whenever Larry is going to play somewhere, he drops a Prince rumour. Case in point: October 1998 when Larry said Prince was going to show up at the Justice League in San Francisco for a funk jam...but it was just a PR scam to get people in the club to see his son's lame band. Larry guested with his son but Prince was nowhere to be found.

It happened again at last year's Oakland Art & Soul Festival, when Larry was given the key to the city by Oakland mayor Jerry Brown. Larry played the 'Fest and went on the radio beforehand, talking about "special guests" making "special appearances," right after he talked about his recent work with Prince. Of course Prince never showed up. Larry spoke on it from the stage, "Prince couldn't make it...and unfortunately Carlos Santana couldn't make it either, but I received this note from Carlos which I will read to you now"....kinda sad.

Larry himself is the source of these rumours and he plants them to increase ticket sales and attention for his own agenda. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt, but after being burned a couple times by this "bait and switch" technique, I won't be buying those overpriced tickets for the KBLX Stone Soul Picnic. Like you said, if Prince does show up, he'll jam a Sly tune with Larry's Leftovers from the Family Stone. Seen it! Over it! Done.

Next thing you know, Larry will do a Bible Study Tour and tell folks, "Prince gon' be there, don't miss it! Learn THE TRUTH and speak on it with Prince...he might even sign yo' bible!!"

I heard Prince DID show up but didn't come out b/c the setup wasn't cool (the audience would have been all over it - there was no security & very easy access to the backstage area)... That could have been a rumor too, but it's what I heard

The only reason I'm doubting it is b/c I just can't see P playing in... GULP... Hayward

Prince didn't appear.The KBLX folks were talking about it this morning,saying that Teena Marie "stole the show".But they said that they will NEVER invite Rick James again.He was cursing through his whole set,using the "B" word over and over,and this was supposed to be a family event.LOL.
