Billboard senior editor Ray Waddell "Prince's "Musicology Tour" the breakout tour of the year"

Summer concert lineup solid, if not spectacular

Hector Saldaña
San Antonio Express-News

A revived country music queen, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame prince and rock's greatest blood 'n' thunder cartoon road show usher in San Antonio's 2004 summer concert season.

But the excitement quickly levels off — until Britney Spears and Linkin Park come in early August — and San Antonio's not alone. Billboard senior editor Ray Waddell says nationwide it's "a meat and potatoes year without so many superstars."

"There is no one media hog," agreed Pollstar editor-in-chief Gary Bongiovanni. "But in general, business looks like it's going to be very good."

.....

Prince stole the show earlier this year with ultra-cool performances at the Grammy Awards and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Now he's on the road with a new album, "Musicology." He says he's singing his hits for the last time. Prince plays the SBC Center on June 9.

"It's the biggest tour Prince has done in a long time," Bongiovanni said, while Waddell called Prince's "Musicology Tour" the breakout tour of the year.

"It's very successful on a financial level and creatively produced," he said.

Easily the best live show going and it'll only get better! And when i say live i mean the MIC is on the whole show and not 50% of the time bcuz most video kings and queens can't dance and sing at the same time! EXAMPLE:Madonna,MJ,JJ,Usher,BS,Timberlake,etc.etc. the list goes on and on!

I don't mean to be picky, because for the most part I agree with the examples. But I think JT gets put in this list just for his style of music. You assume he doesn't sing live because he's a pop star. But, if you've ever seen him (or Nsync for that matterr) live, you would know that they DO sing and dance live (and very well I must say). Sorry, but I just think he's gooten a bum rap.
