And if so, how do you think it compares to this tour? Or his other tours?

I was very much blown away that night and it has stuck with me. You know that feeling you get in a concert when you sense that an artist is going way above the normal and really giving it to you with feeling and with enthusiasm? Well, it seemed to me Prince really, really had a special night that night. I've seen him twice since, and he was very good, but neither were near the level of intensity of that night in Detroit. The audience was SO into it. Prince didn't have to goad the crowd to sing along, or to clap or dance. The audience was pushing Prince with their enthusiasm to the point where he made a few comments about how he was not going to worry about the arena rules concerning shut down time. It was simply amazing. To some small degree in the two shows since, I could tell he was going through the motions, but not always feeling it 100%. That is my perspective anyway. Anyone else have a different perspective?

Last night in Nashville was a solid second place of the three, and was in comparison to all other artists, nothing short of unbelievable. But not quite up to Detroit Lovesexy 10/30/88 standards. The man has been blowing my mind ever since I first heard the Controversy album in eighth grade. I loved it immediately. I remember a dude in one of my classes used to continuously say in class before I had heard of the album, "I live my life in Taxicabs." He would repeat it at random all the time and it always was funny. Not until later did I discover what it meant.

I was there (one of the Detroit shows). I remember waiting for the encore because I also saw the show in Chicago and he didn't sing Alphabet St. He always rocks in Detroit.

For a long time Detroit was his 2nd home. The crowds are always so pumped up there.

I saw the Lovesexy show in D.C. and the fans mostly stood up when he did Purple Rain stuff. Not sure what they thought of the Lovesexy stuff but I was standing the entire time. He did not even do an encore that night when he had done one the previous night. It was after that night that I began to really like Prince for doing his own thing, despite record sales.

I was at the same detroit show, I remember I brought about 10 friends 2 see prince 4 the 1st time that night. They know the purple rain stuff, but when he did some stuff of the (than not released) black album, most had been lost! For me that was a great show, but my fav. was at the fox, or mabay emansipation at the State.... see ya at the palace and the Joe this year.

I was there. It was quite the show! I remember Prince commenting on it being Devil's Night, something like "They say the devil is in here tonight.. well, were gonna chas him right out!" I was rteally struck by the thematic structureof the show: 1st part nasty/evil/dirty (including parts o the forbidden Black Album), then a spirtual awakenand the second half a positive and holy and whatnot.

That show has totaly stuck with me, as well.

I would argue that the 1988 Lovesxy tour was the best one that Prince has ever done.

Not only did it set precident for the in-the-round stage set up but it also demonstrated how tight a band could be. It is by far the most memorable concert I have ever seen.
(I loved it so much I bought a superb bootleg of the show)

I've seen all of Prince's concert tours that have passed through Toronto.
I've been front row for the Jam of the Year show and last row for the Act 1 tour.
