Morris Day and the Time opened in Atlanta

In the words of Morris Day, "Surprise!"

You heard it. I was sitting in my seats the lights went out and the place was only half full. I barely heard "WHAT TIME IS IT??" and thought to myself, "did I just hear what I thought I just heard?". Next thing you know, they were running up on stage and did about a 45 minute set of all the favorites including "Cool", "Wild and Loose", "Get it Up", "Jerk it Out", "Fishnet", "Oak Tree", "Jungle Love" and "The Bird". Totally amazing!! (I know I missed a couple of the songs)

Prince's set was awsome as usual. He played basically the same things he has been playing throughout the tour. The acoustic set was a little shorter than it was last night in Birmingham but he completed more songs tonight than last night. Overall, as good as any other show but made even better because of the Special Guest Morris Day and the Time.

And he has got to stop with the Housequake tease. It's killin me. "Who in this house know about the quake?"

Yeeah, its true...I was there and we went crazy when the time opened up the show!!! Prince was unbelievable tonight...Life O The Party sounds sooooo good in a live setting. I'm really looking forward to Aug. 9th. By the way I had member seats and they were excellent. I was third row behind Candy, Chance, Maceo, Greg and Mike. Prince gave our section so much love throughout the show.

Morris lives here in Atlanta, I'm guessing that's the reason that they popped up as a surprise, but HELL YES it was awesome. The Time were in TIP TOP shape... Jerome ran out into the crowd, and SPRINTED up the stairs! I was right behind the drummer, awesome view of the whole thing.

The Time were so awesome that, when they were done, I said "okay we can leave now."

JUST AWESOME.

After getting some much needed sleep from Birmingham and Atlanta shows, all I have to say is "DAAAAAMMMN MOTHAFUCKA!!!!!"

I am still in shock from the "What Time Is It?" A surprise like that is going to stay in my memory for a long long time. Morris had the crowd so hype. The place was INSANE when they were out there. I still can't believe what I saw.

Man, I'm so COOOOOL!! C-O-O-L

Damn!! I think Morris is getting more hype from me than Prince just because it was such a suprise. woot!

It was amazing...I am a Minneapolis Native transplanted to the ATL, and it was like stepping back in time (excuse the pun). I felt like I transported to 1st Ave/ 7th St. Entry or Sam's or Bunker's in Minneapolis (with a much bigger crowd). Anybody feel me?

We were sitting there at 8:55, and the sound mix intro started. I said to my best friend (also from the Mini Apple), " He is using Time jams in his intro! I know he wrote and produced it, but how strange..." Next thing you know, we hear "What Time is It?" and here they come running. I would have paid the ticket fee just for that amazing 45 minute set. My man combed his hair in the gilt framed mirror held by Jerome and the audience was in for a keyboard infused funk ride like no other.

Jerome said "SURPRISE!" and had the audience say "THANK YOU PRINCE" in unison. My favorite moment was C-O-O-L, everyone still knew the sign language. I've seen them 3 times in Atlanta in the past few years, this was the MOST ELECTRIC due to the quality of the sound and the energy from the arena crowd. Big Props to his Royal Badness for making my year and having The Time open. I will cross my fingers for a repeat in August, since Morris and some of his family resides here...But I won't hold my breath. My only wish is that I would have worn my "WILD and LOOSE" t-shirt from their '82 tour instead of my Prince Controversy Antarctic Tour 81-82 shirt in homage to the occassion. No mentions of CHILI SAUCE or ICE CREAM CASTLES, but that's o.k. He still worked the white topcoat over the shoulders for GIGILO's GET LONELY TOO. Of course we had all the obvious hits as well. It's been so long without Jimmy. Terry and Jesse that the current line-up plays as if they have been together since day one. Jellybean jamming in a sharp hat...Even hanging out in the clubs back in the day he was never without at least a baseball cap after 1984. Monte Moir is perhaps an unsung hero, handling complex keyboard arrangements with funkadelic ease.

I have not seen Prince and the Time play the same ticket since Morris went solo. Jerome and Morris did not miss a beat. Jerome never changes... he's filled out a bit, just like we all have. They still move as if they are gliding on ice, and just as cool.

A bit of humor...Prince changed the line in Sign O the Times to " Let's get married and have a baby...We'll call him Morris, if it's a boy."

The Prince set was of course as amazing as everyone has said. I by no means want to underplay the brilliance of his performance. 2 1/2 hours with precision and perfection and humor. Question of U mix was an unexpected treat. All the arrangements were a testament to Prince's genius. He makes every hit knew and familiar at the same time. Who'd of thunk an acoustic Little Red Corvette could pack so much funk?

Last but not least, it was great to chat with all the folks seated near me and to meet folks walking in the venue. I always forget what a powerful effect Prince has had on so many outside my home town. O.k., enough already...damn. biggrin
Somebody bring me a mirror.... Paix...Babs

I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one who REALLY enjoyed "Life O The Party", the crowd was really into this track as well. The crowd was jamming to this song like it was one of his '80's classics.

"What Time is It?" Time to do some new songs. Don't get me wrong, I love 'em, but sheesh, when they gonna get past that writing block? Even just one or two new songs would be a treat.

I parked down below where the tour buses were, and there was a limo right in front of me before the show...Morris Day got out, and I was thinking, he must be here just to watch....what surprise to see them open up for Prince.

My date had no idea who they were. It made me feel really old when i realized she was two back in 1984. she loved it though.

Then I did eek

My wife and I are going to the July show in Jacksonville, FL. Can't wait.

I heard a rumor that Prince and Morris were not friends anymore. I guess this proves that the rumor is not true.
