Another Biloxi review(long) Went and saw Prince at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi on May 1, 2004.
My buddy Jason and I left my house in Pensacola around 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The closer we got to Biloxi, the darker the skies got, but the rain held off. Got there a little after 6 p.m. which was excellent time. Went and grabbed something to eat and then headed to the coliseum. As usual, the parking at that place is horrible. We were there about an hour and a half early and it was still an extreme pain. I've probably seen a dozen or more shows there and its always the same story. If you get there close to show time you will probably miss the opening act. Maybe one day they will do something about it. Went to the will call to get our tickets. The line was slow and of course when I finally got up there they couldn't find my tickets. Luckily, I brought my confirmation number and they eventually found the. Second row. Jason gave me a high five and we headed into the arena. As we walked in we received our Musicology CD and headed to the merchandise booth. They actually had cool Prince T shirts this time. I bought one of the purple ones, 1999 style and the days of wild single. Then we headed to our seats Walked around and found our seats. I had forgotten it was in the round. Our seats were on the side. Right in front of the stairs going to the stage on the side Renato was set up. I was disappointed but Jason thought they were fine. Next we decided to get some "liquid refreshment." While we were waiting in line, an Internet buddy saw me and came and talked to me. That's the first time I had met her in person and she was very cool. Decided to walk around and check the place. maybe luck out and see Chance. After our little trip around the arena, Jason placed a call. We got our confirmation that the Time were not going to play and I was bummed yet again. Went to our seats and waited for the show. Sometime around 8:30 p.m., Illusion, Coma, Pimp & Circumstance was broadcast over the speakers. Everybody rose to their feet in anticipation. The house light went off and the Alicia keys half of fame speech began. The crowd was crazed. We saw some of the band members go on stage right in front of us. Prince rose up in the middle of the stage and it was on. Luckily for us we are both tall and had no problem seeing. Probably would have been better in the center, but we really had no real complaints. Here is the setlist with my ever insightful comments 1. Musicology 2. Let's go Crazy-Jason and I were going wild. It may no longer be my favorite, but this is the one that hooked me 20 years ago and I love guitar. 3. I would die 4 U 4. When Doves Cry 5. Baby I'm a star-Jason's favorite Prince song so he was loving this (he's still pissed that it wasn't a single and was the b side to Take me with U) 6. Shhh- did I mention I like guitar 7. D.M.S.R.- This was a full fledge P. Funk jam. The band really jammed on this one and it was atleast 10 minutes long. The horns really added a different dimension to this classic 8. Love Bizare/the Glamorous life(instrumental) 9. I feel 4 U 10. Controversy-another kick ass extended jam. Love the people call me rude bit 11. What a wonderful Life- Renato and Maceo provided a nice interlude while Prince got ready for the acoustic set 12 Little red Corvette-Just prince and his purple acoustic in the swivel chair 13. Cream- I could do without this one, bur it was better this way 14. The Glamorous Life- a nice treat, especially since the band already did the instrumental bit earlier 15. Potato Chips blues song-Have no idea what this was, but I liked it 16. Sweet Thing 17. Raspberry Beret-definite improvement over the medley with take me with you that he was closing shows with for years 18. 7- another one I could do without. The band came back in on this one, ending the acoustic set 19. Sign of the Times-another Jam, the horns gave it a new dimension that I was digging. "We'll call him Prince, if he's a boy" 20. Joy in Repetition- I love this song and they nailed it. Did I mention I like guitar : ) 21 Let's work 22. U got the look 23 Life of the party-One I have been overlooking on the new album, but it jams live, folks were invited on stage to dance on this one 24 Soul Man-Chance took the lead on this one. I'm sorry to see he's not with the Time anymore, but he definitely has made a positive impact on Prince's band. He served as Prince's MC through out the night and Dude can flat out sing. 25. Kiss 26. Take me with U- this closed the normal set. Each different band member was doing a solo, playing various snippets. Blackball started the drums to 777-9311 and triggered the "we don't like New Wave " bit and the main part of the show was over. Encore 27 The Beautiful Ones-My favorite Prince song, maybe my favorite song of all time. I like screaming too : ) 28. Nothing Compares 2 U 29 Purple Rain-fantastic as always. Did i mention, yeah i know shut up The show was around 2 hours and was probably the best Prince show I have ever seen. Atleast #2 out of the 10 or so I have been to. The only bad thing about our seats was that we couldn't see Blackwell. Everybody else was fine and Prince and the rest of the band came over to our side all night long. How cool is it to see Prince play the solo to Let's go Crazy five feet away from you. Very It was raining and it took forever to get out of the parking lot, but that was just a small annoyance after seeing Prince wreck the stage

I was there also with my 15 year old daughter (who looks 21) who was selected to go on stage and dance. She was the young lady who had the guy in the blue suit all over her. She loved it, even spoke to him. The concert was by far one of the best. We have tickets for Bossier City also and can't wait.

"Rhastus" - It was very nice meeting you - after all the emails we've exchanged. What a GREAT show - I wouldn't have missed it for the world and I would go again in a minute. I first saw Prince on the Jam of the Year Tour on Halloween night 1997 and it was one of my top 3 concerts of all time. I loved being so close this time though - nothing beats seeing him up close & personal! Unless it's being invited onstage of course - maybe next time.
