BILOXI SHOW CONCERT Report I'm posting on a different sites. Hopefully, folks will be encouraged to join me in Dallas and in Bossier City. Here goes:
Greetings all, Its 5am and I thought I'd report on the Biloxi show while the details are still fresh in my mind. Arrived at the Coliseum at 7:45pm. Parked directly in front of the main entrance. (sweet) "Will Call" line was a bit slow but got my tix and headed straight for the merch area. Bought Tshirt, tour book and band poster. At 8:10 I still had time to buy drinks and smoke a cig. The place was filled up to the rafters. Finally, Prince comes on at 8:35 and the air is electric. I expected the Alicia Keys intro to be corny, but it wasn't. The whole arena was on it's feet. Haven't seen this type of anticipation since the Purple Rain Tour. (speaking of which, the confeti drop was a nice touch. The set list varied slightly from previous shows, but was essentially the same. Performing in the round has an obvious advantage. But few bands can pull it of the way these guys did. It was pure genius! They would each face a different part of the arena at various times in the show. And every so often, they would meet at center stage and CUT LOOSE. These guys are a well-oiled funk machine. I kid you not. (How can so few musicians produce that much sound?) Humor was included as Prince confessed he "had no ***." He yelled out, "Somebody, please lend me some ***. I'll pay you back!" When big Chance Howard steps up shakin his butt, Prince says, "uh oh." Priceless. His temperment was something of a puzzle. He was so energetic, on fire, and yet so calm and relaxed. I know it doesn't make sense. Fans danced on stage as expected. And a little boy no older than 10 stole the spotlight with his funky moves. There was no afterparty. Roadies were breaking down the set so quickly it made my head spin. My only criticism goes to the security. In particular, one dickhead who constantly harassed fans who danced in the aisles. I surveyed the entire arena, I can honestly say that this crowd was on its best behavior. They were orderly and gave Prince much love. It was unfortunate that security kept pestering the aisle dancers. Overall, it was well worth the drive. Thank you Prince. You kicked our asses. I can hardly wait for Dallas, and then Bossier City. Oh yeah, I am officially in love with Candy. Allow me to supplement my earlier post a few more items. Then I'll take a pill :
1. The swivel chair. During the acoustic set he spun left and right with the precision of a machine, all while singing and smiling at the crowd. 2. Fans on stage. It literally felt like a party at a freind's house. There were folks of various ages and sizes getting funky. One particularly large woman was shaking "like a leaf on a tree." Wonderful. Truly wonderful! I say, "go, girl!" 3. In the round. No one (except maybe ancient greece) has ever designed a venue where every single seat is perfect. Some have complained about sitting to close, etc. My suggestion: stay off the floor. Besides, if you're like me, you had way too much fun to sit. 4. The band. Just because I have a silly crush on Candy doesn't mean the others don't rock. Rhonda plays bass better than anyone I've seen. And the muscles in her arms. wow. As for Renato, Maceo and John, well, need I say more. 5. The fans. How strange and lovely was it hold up your cell phone among the lighters? To quote a music critic, its a "Sign of the Times" Deepest sympathies go out to The Blackwell Family. We are sorry for your loss. May you find the strenght to endure. We love you. | |
