Need some help re Anaheim show

Hey Guys

Im coming over from Sydney and have little or no sense of direction when it comes to Anaheim.

For you local residents of LA, would it be better for me to stay in Anaheim on the night of the show ( I fly in that same day to LAX) or would it be better to keep my base in Downtown LA or Hollyweird? I wont have a car so I will need to rely on buses or a hire car or something.

Also, is there much to do around the area of the Arrowhead Pond. I keep getting told that ANaheim is Disney and not much else.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, need to plan this sucka! The countdown is on.

Hi - I live less than 10 minutes from Anaheim. That show is on a week night right? Here's the deal - mass transit here in the LA/Orange Co. area sucks!! You'd be better off renting a car. As far as where to stay, if the show is during the week (which I think it is if I remember correctly) and you were staying in the LA area, then you would need to get on the freeway by no later than 5:30 for the 7:30 show. And yes, the only thing Anaheim has in it is Disneyland. The rest of it is pretty crappy. sad

So, let me think about this. If I were coming in from Sydney, I think I would want to stay in LA because there's so much to do there. Just make sure you leave early for the concert cuz the traffic on the freeways in Southern CA is absolutely horrific! Or, another option would be to stay in Anaheim for just the night of the concert so you wouldn't have to deal with the traffic on the night of the concert - then the other nights that you're here, you could stay in LA??? Hope I didn't confuse you.....let me know if you have any other questions as I am VERY familiar with the area since I've lived here my whole life! biggrin

P.S. I saw the opener at Staples Center on 3/29 - it was on a Monday night and I didn't get out of my office until 5pm I made it to Staples by 7:15 - Will Call was no problem and I had enough time to get some beers and hang out in my seat, talking to people, etc.

Hey

Thanks for all that.

Were only in California for 2 nights, your right the P show is on the Monday night. I was contemplating staying in Anaheim on the Monday because we fly in that day (approx midday).

I will definately take your advice and leave early on the Monday, prob after immediately checking in at our hotel in Hollywood. So traffic is really that bad over there? Damn.

If we get out to Arrowhead early, any places to eat or hang out in til showtime that you can recommend?

Thanks again for your help.

My personal opinion is you are better off staying in Anaheim that night. When it comes to traffic around the LA/Orange County area you never know. The major freeways to the Pond where Prince is playing start to jam up from about 3:30pm until about 7:30pm. If you don’t know the area and are not used to traffic, staying in L.A. would not be a good thing. On normal days with traffic it can take you about 45 minutes of travel time, with an accident it can take upwards of 1 ½ hours or more of travel time. Question is, how lucky do you feel? Not quite sure what it is you want to “do” before the concert, but if you like shopping, eating or going to the movies there is plenty to do around the area. There are various open-air malls, like “The Block”, “Downtown Disney” and other amusement parks like “Knott’s Berry Farm” and nearby beaches. If what you are looking for is nightlife, there’s plenty of that too. When you arrive and are in the Orange County area, pick up a newspaper at any liquor store called “OC Weekly”, it’s free and is filled with lots of nightlife suggestions. One thing, definitely rent a car. Public transportation is not so great and renting a car obviously gives you more flexibility with whatever plans you end up making. Good luck to you and have a great time at the concert!

Don't even attempt it. Any and all public transit here is not reliable OR convenient by any means.....

Well, if you want to go to a bar or to dinner before the show, then I would definitely stay in Anaheim. What time does your flight arrive at LAX that day? If wanna chill out before the show, then the places to go in Anaheim for some cool bars and/or restaurants would be (as I think someone stated above) Downtown Disney (right next to Disneyland) or The Block which is located in the city of Orange (very close to The Pond though). If I'm not mistaken, there is a restaurant/bar right across the street from The Pond - here's their link:

Thanks for the responses guys.

We fly in at midday on the day of the show so I think the sensible thing is to go direct to Anaheim, stay there for the night and then head into LA the next day for the remainder of our stay.

UMI - representin' Japan, awesome stuff, might look into that hotel your staying at.

Again, thanks for all the help, really is appreciated. Cant wait til the show.
