Columbia, SC - 21-04-2004 Setlist + Mini Review RRHOF Video Intro
Musicology Let's Go Crazy I Would Die 4 U When Doves Cry (1 verse only) 1999 Intro Baby I'm A Star Shhh! DMSR - long funky jam including Crazy In Love, Freaks On This Side & I Like The Way U Move A Love Bizarre - A Glamorous Life Intro I Feel 4 U Controversy jam including Housequake snippets Renato's keyboard interlude God (instrumental) ACOUSTIC SET Little Red Corvette Adore (surprisingly long version with 2 or 3 verses) Cream Jailhouse Rock (few lines only) ICNTTPOYM Nothing Compares 2 U (1 verse only) Sometimes It Snows In April After Midnight / Twins in my bed / 12:01 - whatever u wanna call it ... Sweet Thing The Band returns for 7 Sign O' The Times The Question Of U with long Guitar Solo with many effects (like he did on SOTT on ONA) The One including - Fallin' (Sung By Candy) Let's Work (dancers started coming on stage then) U Got The Look - (one verse only) Life O' The Party Soul Man Kiss Take Me With U Encore 1 The Beautiful Ones Nothing Compares 2 U (full version with band) Encore 2 Purple Rain with full outro Mini review - I can't be stuffed to do a full review Like I did with Fukuoka ONA but I am sure this will satisfy most people REVIEW Total running time approx 160 mins started about the 8.05pm and finished approx 10.25pm There were a few scalpers out the front but I didnt ask the prices.. Som epeople are saying the show was sold out - maybe it was sold out - and 10% of the people just bought tickets and didn't turn up because there were a few sections of very empty seats up in the top balconies ... and YES it was recorded by the guy right in front of me I don't know the quality yet but should know by tomorrow or very soon anyway hopefully there will be SOMETHING On the MD ! Anyway - There will definitely be a few sources I guess .. it was too easy to record this show .. SECURITY was NON EXISTENT coming into the venue, there were guys inside the venue I saw snatching cameras but that was only down on the floor area, up in the balconies i saw NO Security anywhere up there ... come on you cam people where are the goods ! I would be very surprised if this show DOES NOT come out on DVD in a week We got the cd as we entered the place, I didn't see any left over as we were leaving so I only got one copy Not much to say really - in all it was a great show, I am not gonna say it was the best show ever but it was very good. We were seated behind John Blackwell but they werent bad seats really , I we could see Prince most of the time when we were standing.. It was good to see the OCTOPUS ON CRACK at work in his hometown ... The amount of drumsticks he broke and went thru was phenomenal lol I have to sound the sound wasn't very good in the NPGMC section , it was very boomy most of the time and hard to hear what Prince was saying, but that was simply because of the volume of the place, with my earplugs in it was crystal clear RECOMMENDED - GET SOME EARPLUGS cut out lal the screaming people and listen to the music how it is supposed to be .. He is singing with a Purple & black gun microphone most of the show So to the show .....The show started about 25 minutes late .. Up until DMSR everything was pretty average really, but he always takes some time to get into a crowd.. and then in DMSR the jamming started big-time - cant wait to listen to this show Then in Controversy at least another 5 minutes jamming - great stuff I like the Way U Move - Prince was doing Beyonce's ass dance - man that was funny, he went to every runway of the stage so everyone could see it all he says - I aint got no booty ! so he got chnace howard to do it a few times then Prince told chance to stage dive and man did that crowd spread FAST lol The acoustic set was great on his swivel chair and the purple acoustic guitar ICNTTPOYM was brilliant - I was so happy to hear that song and it was a great version By this time he was really into the crowd and he played around alot with Adore and Jailhouse Rock - with the "You're not ready for that " lines... Sweet Thing as a big surprise.. He played around with his effects alot on The Question of U as he has been doing since ONA on SOTT , after about the first 2-3 minutes I saw people sitting down bored but he kept on for another few minutes anyway haha There were about 12 dancers brought on for Let's work and they stayed for about 3 songs up there .. During Take Me With U he asked this large black woman to sing a line and evertytime she said no lol In The One he was right in front of us and he got so into it, he was throwing his arms everywhere and the mic went flying down the stairs and then he falls to his knees and screams - and I could actually hear that scream with no mic at all ... I have to say THE BEAUTIFUL ONES was the absolute standout track - it was just amazing ... Spot on vocals and it takes alot usualy but this song just blew me away .... Compared to the rest of the show - Purple Rain was a pretty average version really, it wasn't very long , but did have a few nice guitar solos near the end, all top fret, again - cant wait to listen to that .... Getting out of the venue was a bit stupid - they had everyone in the venue go out through these little doors and it was very slow and packed but we got out alive so its all ok ... There was an OFFICIAL afterparty they announced after the show ended at Banana Joes. I was told this club is crap and we turned up and there was NOBODY there - we didn't see how much it was to get in but since we knew there was no chance of an aftershow we didn't bother... Prince has to be in Knoxville nonight so their gear would have already been packed and gone ... There were only like 4-5 people standing around the entrance so we just left.. well that's about it Ok I found out Prince did show up for around 10 minutes but it was too cold so he left haha Cost was $10 but later they let in people for free -- so I hear anyway .. Can't wait to compare it to The Raleigh show tomorrow night ... . . [This message was edited Fri Apr 23 7:41:28 2004 by FunkyStrange] Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

thanks for the quick setlist post.
wow, adore in the acoustic set? thats great. hope it makes it to vegas. but nothing compares 2 U twice??? i can barely take that one once. thrilled to see that cream and SISIA are consistently included... guess there's no chance for 17 Days or Mountains on this tour. one question.... i hear it is an abbreviated version of When Doves Cry.. any info on just how short is short? thanks!

that show kicked some major butt! he was about 30 minutes late but that was no big issue. after the show it was really weird cause everyone was all quite and all like they were in awe but i was behind the building where princes busses were and i was talking to a guard and they told us what door he was coming out of and all and they said he was going to a vip party a gilligans or something.. so we waited and sure enough we saw him get into the limo.. i was maybe 5 feet away from him Prince was my 11th concert and hes the best performer out of anyone Ive seen (even out of my favorite singer .. leann rimes haha) and he seems to adore the fans just as much as they adore him.
I would post more of a "review" but Im kinda lacking memory right now lol If anyone got pictures will you please send them to me purple_rain_132002@hotmail.com ... I snuck a few so Ill try to get them by next weekend or if anyones selling video tapes Id be willing to pay for one

Hm... I was secretly hoping he would add some Musicology songs to the setlist after the album's release, at least Dear Mr Man which he played in NYC... ah well. Hope he gradually includes some new jams in the next months.
And hey, Prince better put Raspberry Beret back in the acoustic set NOW, that's my girlfriend's favourite song... "How embarrasing to be human!"

There was a rumor he might stop giving away Muysicology CDs after the album is released.
Did you get a CD at the concert?

This is my first post on this board even though i have been lurking for awhile. I have been waiting for this moment.
~ First i want to say how ticked i am at TicketMaster for not hosting the Knoxville venue on their site and making me drive 2.5 hours to Columbia (from Asheville, NC) when i could have just gone to Knoxville had i known about it. I have been ripped for the past month and a half over it. But anyways..... I have been listening to Prince fanatically for 23 years. When all the other little girls were all about Michael Jackson in the day, i was singing the praises of my Prince. I loved this show! U2 has always been my other favorite group and i have seen them three x. But last night Prince just shot himself all the way to number one for the best concert i have been to. He was awesome! I want to say he totally rocked, but my metalhead hubby would differ with me so i won't say that....BUT HE DID! I was very happy to hear him play I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man (which is my favorite), Baby I'm a Star, and The Beautiful Ones. I wish he could of played If I Was Your Girlfriend, but the fact that he did ICNTTPOYM more then made up for it. Prince - May Jehovah keep shining brightly upon you unto the days of a new earth. -----/--^--<@ [This message was edited Thu Apr 22 7:46:01 2004 by peacefuldove]

Did you get a CD at the concert? As far as I know, everyone got the CD as they passed through the gates.

Yes, we got the CD's at the door!
Getting out of the place was a nightmare. People were crammed packed in the halls unable to more for a few minutes at a time. It appeared as if only one or two exit doors were open. It was a scary experience and we ended up getting out via a stairwell with several hundred other people. I just moved to the NC area from Florida so this was my first concert here. I will never see another concert at that colasium if this is their normal means of operation. Had there been a fire or a fight it would of had disastorous consequences

That was a great review.
Only difference is that the large black lady was supposed to sing lines from "Take me with U". I would love a listen at that live CD once your buddy is done. I was so pissed I didn't bring a camera. I was in the nosebleed section at the very top row. We were on the side behind Rhonda. How incredible was "The One"?!?!? Holy geez.

Candy Dulfer & Maceo were there
Looks like Maceo has recovered, he playde the show in NYC and now he played Columbia the next day , althouhg he seemed to be taking it very easy , he only had about 3-4 solos the whole show and Candy had like 10+ but hopefully he will back in full soon... softandwet...this is going to sound harsh...I promise I mean no disrespect. But, your questions about who sang Sweet Thing & Just My Imagination...Exactly why Prince is teaching us Musicology. It's all about respecting the great musicians. Those songs are amazing. I, for one, WOULD LOVE IT if Sweet Thing is on the Raleigh set list.
