My name was not on the "will call" npgclub list in Cols!!!!

I showed up at the Cloumbus, Ohio concert an hour before showtime and the worst possible incident happened. My name was Not on the NPGmusicclub presale list!!! The venue attendants called the club but no one ever returned their call. Meanwhile I'm standing in the lobby for an hour watching people go in. I was furious and wanted to cry at the same time. This would have been my first experience sitting in the first few rows and I'm a longtime die-hard fan. I've had a seat in row P on the floor a few years ago. With the show soon to start, I tearfully bought a $30 nosebleed from some woman in the lobby. So I begrudgingly went up to the nosebleeds where, very few people got up and danced, even during D.M.S.R and Let's Work, lots of pot smoking and beer drinking went on too. Some loud guy behind me kept asking his friends throughout the concert, What song is this?, I' don't know this one. AWW Daamn, I thought. I desperately tried to enjoy the show but I couldn't stop thinking that I was supposed to be down on the floor with the funkiest people on the planet! They showed Prince so much love, it was incredibly beautiful.
Lastly, The next day I contacted the Npg club moderators and they checked my confirmation number and it was assigned to another club member. I guess they technically got in for free because my charge card was billed for the $77 floor seat. So I was told I would be credited back for the ticket. For the Detroit show, I'm going to triple check with the club to make sure my name is on that list. The reps at the venue told me that I was the only person this had happened to that night. How do you think I felt?

I'm really sorry to hear that this happend to you. I'm a little nervous, too. This will be the first time I've ordered tickets for any concert by any artist through a fan club presale. Like you, I'm just expecting my tickets to be there like they tell you they'll be. Now I'm paranoid!

All I can tell you is that if that happens to me, you will see my picture on the front page of the Chicago Tribune...mug-shot-style!

I hope that no one panics and begins to think that this could happen to them, as I was the only person there who had this problem. But odviously that's no consolation if you're the one stuck in the lobby. If you want to ease your mind just go to the forum page in the club and give the moderators your order/confirmation number and your first and last name to see if everything matches up.

Thats what im most afraid of happening. I get stressed enough buying tickets online before they sell out, finding a date, and driving hours to the show. I aint cool until im sitting down in my seat.

So far that has never happend to me. That story scares me.

How can we make sure our names are on the list before we get there?

Actually, there was a post on the NPG Music Club forum about this happening to a guy who bought tickets for the Mar. 29 Staples Center show. He had a confirmation # and the credit card he used to purchase the tickets and the Staples Center employees couldn't find his tickets. He had to buy two more tickets to get in. This is freaking me out a little bit. This is my first concert, first time buying tickets online and Prince is my all-time fav...if they can't find my tickets after I fly from MS to Dallas, ya'll will be seeing me on CNN getting beat down by security for acting a fool.

Unfortunately, the sound was horrible in the stadium because its essentially shaped like a true bowl. There was a fair amount of reverb and feedback at least where I was, although, it probably sounded great from the floor. The upper portion is very steep and to look down from that high makes one dizzy. Whenever Prince talked I could not understand a word of it. But because it was Prince on stage, time and space truly disappeared.

Damn, sorry to hear about that. It does sound like a total nightmare. I would definitely try to get the NPGMC to give you free tix to another show after you were inconvenienced so badly!

This is why i would bring a print out of the email confirmation. It would be better than nothing when trying to prove that you really bought tickets.

Apparently though the guy I read about on the NPGMC did exactly that. He showed ID, his credit card and the confirmation and he still had to buy two more tickets.

I'm worried too sad . There's got to be way to check and ensure that your tickets are ready for pick up before getting to the concert.

Believe me, I had a copy of my confirmation e-mail, I.D. and credit card but it did not help much. The venue reps still had to call the fan club to find out why my confirmation number was obviously assigned to someone else.

Looks as though being early and picking up tickets ahead of everyone wont help unless you can get there early enough to get it straightened out before show time. All of the phone calls and communication that would need to happe could occur and they probably would give the tickets to the first person there. The secong person assigned to the same tickets would have to do what you did - buy another or not get in.

That's me. I'd take nunatak's advice. You should get something. I don't know if they'll spring for a comp. (Lawd knows Prince is tight with the $$$)

But, maybe you could ask for your choice of something in the Retail Section. (White Cloud guitar sounds good)

But seriously, I would make a bit of a stink. If this were another retailer, they'd give you something in return for your trouble.

Think about it.

Peace

eek Oh man..... that would SUCK.....
I can't figure out tho- how your tickets could get "assigned" to some one else? I mean no one would go to pick up the tickets Unless they HAD tickets waiting for them..... ??? SO that would mean that there would be DOUBLE tickets for some one else wouldn't it.
Geez.....
I go to 4 shows in June..... and I will be right there with you all in the Sun Times if My seats are NOT there.....
So sorry to hear about your bad night..... sad

wow! i am so sorry that you had that shitty experience. forget the credit, you would be completely correct to pursue this further and get on them about supplying you wth good tickets for another show. it is a slim chance but it's worth the effort.

Man o' man, that is SO my luck. I have been worried about this possibility since we were told that we pick the tickets up the night of the show AND that they can't provide us any info about our tickets prior to the night of the show. So, if you do run into a problem like in this poster's situation, you are basically SOL.

One of the other artists that I follow has this same type of ticket policy for his fan club. You can only pick the tickets up the night of the show and no information is provided to you prior to that night about your seats. HOWEVER, each fan club member is given the cell phone number of the tour manager that will be present at the venue. They encourage you to call the tour manager if something like this happens to you when you pick your tickets up. Of course, they don't put up with people complaining about seat location, etc., but they are really good about correcting problems like your name not showing up on the list if it should have been there.

I think that there should be someone onsight at each venue to address these types of problems. No question. In fact, why wouldn't there be? Well, I gotta go print out my ticket confirmation .....

I worry about this too. Especially when you have to go on the road for a concert like I do. Went to Oklahoma City, 2 hour drive, got my tickets, got front row seats. Great! But now I have pre-sale tickets for Dallas, 4 to 5 hour drive and I will just cross my fingers.

happened to me last night in columbia... neutral

had my id, the card i used, and my confirmation sheet (which was useless)... the lady says "what do you expect me to do with this?"... "track down my GD tickets"... rolleyes...

so, they gave me an ultimatem... buy another set of tickets or leave... a 3 fuckin hour drive... disbelief... hopefully this doesn't happen to me again tomorrow night in raleigh...

worst concert experience ever... i tried to enjoy the show, but it's hard after something like that... it really kills your enthusiasm...

and now, i'm waiting on the refund... and i do expect some sort of concession for the inconvience, but i don't expect it...

sigh...

shit happens, i suppose...
