Same setlist EVERY night Is anyone disappointed to see that the same set list is being played every night. I guess it's not much different than any other Prince tour... Although I would have hoped with it being his "hits for the last time" he'd keep us guessing with the songs to be performed. By the time he comes to town I'll know exactly what song's coming next and be just a little bored. Where's Uptown, Why you wanna treat me so bad, I wanna be your lover, Sign Of The Times?? I could go on and on. I know you can't please everyone, but at least mix it up a bit to keep us guessing!! There are so many songs to choose from, each night could be different from the last...

most of his hits tours are like this. hit n run, jam of the year...they all had only slight variations. my guess is things will change up the most when he plays in the same city several nights in a row. la, ny, chicago, philly, vegas...they might get something a little different on one of those nights.

I was reading the concert reports on npgmc and some of the people are reporting different songs, like delirious and a little of alicia's fallin, so I really think it depends on what he feels like doing as usual with him.
I don't care if he does play the exact same set list at dallas, san antonio and houston. I am just happy to experience the show.. We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

Thank God. At least I know what I'm paying for.
Some of his shows in the past have been major disappointments re: setlist.

He's never been Springsteen when it comes to setlists.

Then again, Springsteen has never been Prince when it comes to dancing and guitar playing. Hey cutie- here is a web site that might interest you: http://www.springstomania.com/ It's what is called a "fan website" for those who really like The Boss. You should check it out because you might run into people who equally share your enthusiasm for Bruce. I hope this post doesn't affect my "history" with you. "New Power slide...."

I don't mind at all - at least I won't shit myself hearing he did some song I've never heard live & I wasn't lucky enough to be in the house. I'll be dancing, singing & hyped for each pre-planned tune... on both nights
I do hope he does CALL MY NAME @ least once in the Bay Area

I don't understand why the same setlist is a dissapointment... unless you're planning to go to each and every show. I'm sure Prince will include and exclude various songs here an there, but my goodness, Prince is moving from city to city and state to state, so it's not Prince's fault that you scavenge the web to find out every single possible detail of his performance BEFORE the show comes to your town. My advice for anyone who wants to be "surprised" is just to quit readin all the flippin concert reports. Another thing to keep in mind is that the Musicology Tour is a loooong tour. It's currently scheduled to go through August just in the U.S. By the Summer, Prince may be playing several different songs that he's not currently playing. It's a disappointment (for me, anyway) because, for an artist with such a vast catalogue of music, he's only tapping into maybe 10-15% of his material... this is especially true in light of the fact that there have been few, if any, aftershows. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the show is great. I would just expect (or hope for) a little more spontaneity from an artist as prolific as Prince.
A good point was brought up earlier in the thread about multiple night stands in various cities... it would be interesting to see how the set changes during these runs.

An arena tour requires a well rehearsed, tight band. u can't expect these shows 2 b like late nite aftershow gigs where prince just goes off on a whim. it simply isn't practical. also, givin the travel schedule, and the proximity of the dates, rehearsal of new material is very limited by time constraints. Ex-Moderator | Most major artists on an arena tour play the EXACTLY same show at every stop, down to the same "witty" remarks and banter between songs. It's an arena tour, designed to appeal to the lowest common denominater. That's the way it works. I'm still hoping we get a few change ups for the 3 nights in Mpls, but I'm not holding my breath on them being monumentally different. |
