RANDOM NOTES: Show started over an hour late....Mellon Arena was near capacity---an usher told me there were over 14,000 people in attendance (the upper reaches of the arena, known as the "F Section," were never intended to be sold due to sightlines)...Amy Polland from Saturday Night Live was in attendance, as were members of Chance Howard's family (both are from Pittsb lol urgh)...The audience remained on its feet for nearly the entire show, and Prince gave a FANTASTIC performance. He remarked several times how much he loved playing Pittsburgh..."Cream" entered the setlist for the first time on the tour, and Prince sang nearly the entire song during the acoustic portion...Bit of a surprise that he started the encore with "The Beautiful Ones" and also sang "Nothing Compares 2 U" prior to "Purple Rain." Neither had been in the setlist for a few shows (still no "Insatiable" though!)...All in all, another great show--bring on Columbus Friday night!

Personal comment on the Pittsburgh SHOW - if ya don't mind

Thank you above for the informative setlist, funny how I woke up today and said HOW IN THE HECK am I GONNA REMEMBER THIS DARN SET LIST - Amazing how GOD sends angels to help...

I have to tell ya, for many people on this planet, they really don't realize that there are places that have truly some HARD CRITICS in their cities and/or locations. Pittsburgh is seriously a "CRITIC" city. It truly listens to any type of entertainment that they are willing to support and gives its BOLD honesty in report. In fact, if you display any type of non-challantness they will (PARDON ME PRINCE FOR SAYING IT THIS WAY) - "CREAM" ya. Ok joke over... back to seriousness.

The entire band "mesmerized" the crowd and let me tell you I have been to a FEW concerts where EVERYBODY just sat in their seats waiting for the holy grail to open up and wake 'em up. NOT WITH THIS CONCERT THO... it was beautiful, funky, comical with flair and truly worked the spirit of the entire the crowd. The temperature in the ARENA was so bolstering that my Plether *yes I love animals... jacket stuck to my body.*** Amazingly, through observance, everybody was so cordial happy and smiling, truly was a miracle to be seen. I find it also very relevant that PRINCE made the comment of "he likes to play Pittsburgh". That says alot about a man's character towards what he is doing as well as, offering a HUGE THANK YOU to a CITY that right about now needs an up lift. Once again, (thank you above) for the SETLIST (miracle) and now you know the spiritual side. GODBLISS you prince and the band, roadcrew, staff, hidden employees and everybody in his OCEAN's VIEW.

Sincerely,

SingMia
AKA (many other names but still the same spirit)

Random thoughts from the PGH show:

1) my seats were good.....too good. I was literally in the front row (last name begins with a letter in the middle of the alphabet, btw). My ears are still ringing...being that close, the sound was distorted from being that close to a speaker....plus I couldn't see the screens. But on a positive note, I was right underneath Candy ;^) and I'm certain I'm not imagining this (lol) but she was staring at me the whole night.....I think she kind of has a thing for me...poor gal..

2) during the acoustic set, there was a blues riff he was doing talking about "telemarketers, bill collecters, and crazy fans"...also the last line of the song was "I love you too, but not the band"....then he laughs and says "I dont think y'all got that"....."I love U2.....but not the band" ....then he says he's cool with bono.

3) Some crazy drunk slutty lookin girl was on stage dancin....she was at the edge of one of the x's...and prince comes out to sing and she grabs him from behind around the waist....he turns around and she's tuggin on his sleeve, etc...he gives her a wide eyed look while motioning with his hands down towards the floor..he seemed to be saying something like "look you have to CHILL OUT if you want to be up here"....then as he's walking away she still tugs on his shirt .....man, thought she was gonna be rolled off the stage by security after that one

I feel ya on that one, alex. Sounds like I was right on the other side of the ramp from you-- I was directly in front of Rhonda in the front row. While having front-row seats was fantastic, it made seeing things on other parts of the stage a little difficult at times.

Funny thing about that girl: she was causing the security guards trouble all night. Every single time that Prince would come over to our section of the stage, she and her three drunk friends would push their way into the front row to get up next to the stage, and every single time the security guards would grab them and tell them to go back to their seats. At one point, oneof the girls even knocked a girl's jacket onto the floor, stepped on it, and shattered her glasses.

The girl who got up on stage was not even picked by the NPG to get up there. She climbed up the railing and hoisted herself up on stage before security could stop her. At one point, the security guard literally had a hold of her ankle trying to pull her down, but she broke loose from him and made it up anyway.I cannot believe how some people act at concerts. She (and her friends) took a lot of enjoyment of the night away from me.

On another note, I got to meet a truly great couple who came all the way from Melbourne to see a couple of concerts. They were super-nice and cool to talk to. If one of you happens to be reading this, drop me a message! Had a great time talking to you before the show and watching you flirt with Rhonda!

I too caught Pittsburgh.

Another key moment not mentioned was during “Take Me With U”.
One of the girls dancing on stage didn’t know the lyrics when Prince held his mic up to her. This was not once, but twice.
During music filler, Prince asked Pittsburgh if it wanted to claim her as its own while shaking his head in joking disappointment.

True, distortion was a problem with sitting too close.
AND
True, by having seats closest to stage, it was impossible to see the screens that displayed the introduction to each set.
AND
True, because of the stage setup and by sitting too close with a low vantage point, I was only seeing about 25-40% of actual Prince. I was behind the drums.

ON THE OTHER HAND…
When you did see Prince, you saw Prince. Real close and in your face.
Who cares about the minor problems?

OVERALL, THE EVENING WAS GREAT!!!
Prince was very playful.
The band was excellent.
Surprise songs added to set list.
I got to meet and exchange emails with other club members who are by far the coolest people.
