Stage Design

I have noticed on some of the seating charts for the arenas that Prince is playing, that on some of the charts the stage appears as a round stage, others the stage is showing as a rectangular shape, and a few even octagon shaped. Some people on here are complaining that there line of sight has been pretty bad from the front row, but I wonder if the shape of the stage has anything to do with it?? I am going to the Indianapolis show, and on the seating chart the stage is showing as rectangular shaped. I would think this would be easier to see than a totally round stage. Some of you people that have already been to the shows, tell me about the shape of the stage and what you could see. I am losing more and more sleep the closer the show gets, as I have ordered tickets from the NPGMC, and now after reading some of the reviews here, I am pretty scared about the whole line of sight thing!!! HELP ANYONE[/b]!!!!! Peace & Love 2 all.

I went to the Ames show last night, thinking the same thing. I thought my 3rd row seats might be bad, because someone posted some criticism of close seats earlier on because of the inability to see up over the stage when Prince moves around. Also complaints about looking "at his back."

Bogus.

The stage is shaped like an X, so Prince has 4 runways to go down, plus a center area to play. I sat in the third row, between two of the runways, just behind the drummer and a touch left.

The musicians were placed on platforms built between the runways, and a few feet lower, so you could always see Prince. When they did a solo, they made their way onto the ramp, otherwise laid kind of low.

So, there were times when Prince was 10 feet away, ripping guitar solos on Purple Rain and Let's Go Crazy. There were times when Prince played acoustics in the middle of the X on a chair that revolved, so we could all get a great glimpse of him. He also sang on the microphone, but made it a point to face each group from the center of the X when he sang, or would take the mic wirless and walk down the runways, singing away. Again, much of the time he was within 10 feet making his moves to Kiss, Soul Man, etc.

There were also times when, yes, I had to look at his side and, yes, I had to look at his back. But, what a cool way to see what kind of response this guy gets. I thought of it as though I were a bird on his shoulder, checking out the show from backstage. What would you say if you were given tickets to a traditional Prince concert and asked to sit on stage a few feet behind Prince? It was pretty cool.

Bottom line, when they say not a bad seat, they mean it. I saw the concert from 4 vantage points for one price. Prince was a master showman, and made it a point to play to everyone.

You will not be disappointed!

Not bogus, my friend! Did you walk around and sit in all the different seats, all around the stage? No you didn't. Trust me- some of the close seats behind the horns stand, drums and keyboard rigs have VERY impaired sight lines. From the seat I had in Omaha (first row behind the horns) there was a horn stand and keyboard rig between me and 75% of the stage. And you couldn't see around them either. Trust me, it was HARD to see ANYTHING or anyone, let alone Prince from that seat.

Many people have noted this. We are not making this up!

I'm glad the view was good where you were. I was at Ames and from that seat (90 degrees clockwise and 3 rows back from my Omaha seat) the view was SPECTACULAR. Just as you described.

So MOST of the seats are great. But they aren't all. There are probably 50-70 seats in my estimation that have impaired sight lines. Not a big percentage in a 14,000 seat hall- but tell that to the people who paid premium prices to sit in them!

Bottom line, when they say not a bad seat, they mean it.
You will not be disappointed!

Unless you get one of those 70 seats...
