The problem with the Phoenix show..

Plain and simple is the fact that Prince put such an unbelievable show in LA that everyone expects the same thing. If he did not simucast the concert you would have never known, thus no disapointment

Yes, this is exactly the case. The whiners and complainers are just not intelligent enough to realize this, although it is obvious.

I agree. But you can ask yourself if it's fair that he gives some audiences more than others. And if it's clever to do so. He knows about this medium.

But don't understand me wrong... i am praying that he will hit my neighberhood very soon biggrin

it would seem that the shows running time was about the same. He juust chose not to do the acoustic set.

I wonder was Reno's show inclusive of the acoustic set?

I find it very hard to believe that the show was only 1 hour and 10 minutes long. I'm not calling you a liar because I wasn't there, but if what your telling me is true then he cut 1 hour off of the concert. Thats tough to believe. If this is true I would have been very mad myself. I can understand no encore, but 1 hour off a show. Yea my wife would have to calm me down.

Wow, 1 hour and 10 minutes? Can you imagine him breezing through some of those tunes at a faster tempo?

mistruths bout what????? i was there..... i usually am very positive when it comes to the man..... but the Phoenix show had issues and was not a full show..... i usually do not notice mistakes but i did..... i seen him throw the mic and leave the stage... the chair was put up for the acoustic set then taken down..... it was the one part i wanted to see the most... and have seen it from the broadcast does not mean anything... i have friends that were at Reno, LA and Bakersfield and then came here..... point blank we didn't get a great show..... he was feelin the luv.... guess i have seen him to much over the last few months but it was my city and i feel a lill let down.... i know its not all his fault but when the trucks get in bout 3 pm for a ahow that is suppose to start at 7:30 U really think there is enough time to fix things?? this is the begining of the tour and kinks need to be worked out..... if the sound was not right and they knew it before the show then why go on till its fixed???? i just feel a lill let down... i go all over to see the man and he is finally in my city and things happened..... i hope he comes backand does another show... i had peeps there that had never seen him live before and said the show was good.... i just know it could of been better.....

sad

The show was awesome but it was SHORT! When I got home I felt like I had missed something - and I did the acoustic set. It was like we missed out on the climax! Prince teased us all night and got us all excited and then didn't finish. I feel like the concert ended prematurely.

I have to agree with people saying the show was bust. I see so many shows a year and the Prince shows have fallen so short of entertaining it's sad. He promises a punch just by the power of his name. I mean we're talking about a man that blew my world out of reality for many years with beautiful and powerful performances. He's a great musician. Every show I've seen of Prince's in the 90's and 2000's have been an extremely unbalanced and boring mix of uncaring melodies of masterpieces and long extended versions of songs that don't have any cultural or social signifigance. In fact, the last show I went to at the Fillmore in SF promised a Prince show....It ended up being comprised of cover tunes by mostly his back up band. I thought I was watching American Idol. What sux is that I've seen Prince at his best. He has the potential to put on a life altering set, but he continues to charge people up the wazzooo and delivering nothing but a fan club pow wow. I'm paying the man money I don't have. He could try once (being spiritually fit and all) to be selfless and deliver what his name promises.
Yeah, he might be bored with his old songs, but this is the entertaintment business. He took back a name that defines some of the best music my lifetime. By not honoring that legend, he's nothing.

mschirmer, I kind of understand your dissapointment, but it sounds like it might be time for you to move on to another artist or artists to follow. I mean if you think that the shows are that bad then I don't understand why you keep on going., and for that matter who do you think out there is better. I consider him the best live show in the world. If you don't like the best then where do you go from here? Good luck.

I agree with you, bull. Time to move on to another band mschirmr. My experiences with the purple one have been great. I saw prince around 6 times in the 4 years that I lived in minneapolis. 4 paisley performances and two full on concerts (96'-00'). Each show was great. Each performance I saw seemed like he was having the time of his life, and they were each vastly different. I am a musician, and I play live often alongside of some of the greatest unsigned and signed acts from Jazz to Metal to Funk to Punk, to Pop to Be-Bop, and I also see lots of different national acts as well, and to this day, Prince has reigned as the top show I've ever seen.

I really appreciate the work that he puts into everything that he does. He runs the musicians with him ragged with practice, afterpartys, performances, and many other funky antics as well I'm sure. Not many artists come close to that, so once in a while I'm sure he overworks himself and the musicians around him. Sometimes you're really tired and sick and don't realize it right away because things move so fast in a person like prince's world.

Add that onto playing the same old songs everynight you've played a million times, and you've got a poopy concert or two.

mschirmr, I'm not saying that you're wrong. If you had bad experiences, you had bad experiences, just thought I'd share some of mine, and my opinion of what may be the problem.

Also, I paid the same price for a paul mccarteny ticket for nosebleed as I did for Prince 3rd row, so you won't hear me complain about the price. And I enjoy Prince's music more. wink

What happens is that fans will have high expectations and if those expectations fall short too many times, they become disappointed and disillusioned. The way I see it is as long as someone still visits the fansites of an artist, they're still a fan, even though they might be upset.

Now when they stop visiting and posting that indicates they really aren't interested in that artist any more. It starts off with disappointment, then if there's more disappointment, ti turns into disillusionment. The the disillusionment turns into disinterest. Once the disinterest kicks in the only step left is to sell or give away all of your Prince stuff and find another artist who is providing the things that you want and need from your favorite artist.

I was at the show and it was about one hour and forty minutes, maybe closer to two hours. Longer than most acts out there, but a little short for a Prince show. No complaints from me, it was awesome and I'd do it all over again.
