Fillmore reviews...both nights.....

Tamiko and I drove up 2 San Francisco Friday night looking 4ward 2 a night 2 remember....it ended up being a weekend full of surprises.

February 14th, the Valentine's show was extremely funfilled. First off, I would like 2 say Bobby T made his rounds by passing out single roses 2 all female members of the NPGmusic club, a sweet touch 2 begin the evening. As people went in2 the Fillmore, heart candies were passed out along with cards with Prince's picture on the front and the fillmore dates 4 this event. This show was similar 2 the first Vegas night. He got funky on "DMSR" and brought up Gigi from the front...she shook her money maker while Prince encouraged everyone 2 jam on the "2 and 4". He went in2 "House Party" and brought up a few other members on stage. Prince at one point took off his tie and pretended 2 throw it 2 one side of the stage, but ended up throwing 2 another side, where Tamiko grabbed it. Nice gift. Prince at one point wanted 2 release his 'secret weapon' 2 sing a solo...that being Chance. However, one gentlemen on stage, we'll just call Walt Disney, wanted 2 take on the mic himself....Prince allowed him 2 do so. Walt just blared out some nonsense words and Prince just stood back with a funny face waiting 4 it 2 end. He then made a comment stating, "now i know who's been smoking all that weed". "Musicology" was slowed down slightly and funked up massively! It was one of the best per4mances of the song yet. Eddie M. came out at one point and played a bit. Prince gave him a thumbs up and wanted 2 send him on his way, but I guess the excitement of the crowd got Eddie riled up, he just didn't want 2 leave. Eddie was finally escorted off. Prince went off stage 2 take breather while John Blackwell ripped up the skins....and jammed in2 "777-9311", Rhonda playfully followed with the bass riff and Prince came on stage 2 join them. He was feeling it and went up 2 the mic and 2 our amazement sung some of the lines. It was pretty cool. The crowd loved it and sang along with him. The highlight of this evening would be the 2nd encore, where Prince's keyboard with a mercedes grill was brought out on stage. Prince sat down and sang "Adore" the way it should be, in it's entirety. This night ended with Prince's horn section playing "Down By the Riverside" while Prince danced around and waved around a red hankerchief. Prince eventually through his handkerchief which landed in the hands of Purplekat standing front and center.

This evening showed Prince having a great time, smiling and clowning not only with his band but with the fans. It was truly a playful night! Fashionably, the Man looked good. His first outfit was a black suit, one purple sleeve and one red sleeve, with the colors criss-crossing his chest like straps. He wore a red button down shirt underneath with a black tie, now officially owned by Tamiko (my Road Dawg 2004). The other members of the band also wore black and red 2 blend the mood and the feel of the evening. Prince's second outfit was similar 2 his outfit at the HOB in L.A., where it was half long and half short.....the suit being black this time....and ladies, underneath his black coat, he wore no shirt...with his collar straight up. Looking pretty fly as usual.

The stage was themed oriental style with umbrellas, lanterns and chinese characters on moon calendars.....very elegant.

The show started at 12:40am and ended at 3am....a beautiful evening made 2 fit the valentine mood. Extremely worth 2 remember.

Tamiko and I both planned on leaving early....but decided 2 stay and check out the second show.

Feb. 15 setlist
1. Renato Neto piano intro
2. The Beautiful Ones
3. Nothing Compares 2 U
4. Insatiable
5. Sign of the Times
6. Pass the Peas
7. Question of U
8. After Midnight (bluesy, similar 2 The Ride)/The One/Fallin'
9. Let's Work
10. U Got the Look
11. Life of the Party
12. Uptown Up
13. Soul Man/Kiss
14. Take Me With U
15. Everlasting Now

1st encore (w/Larry Graham)
1. Higher
2. Days of Wild

2nd encore
1. America
2. House Party
3. No Diggity

The Sunday night show was more of a party atmosphere....the stage was set the same but this time they wore black and white colors....Prince came out in a white suit with a black shirt (the suit similar 2 his red and black suits). Prince brought flashbacks in2 my head when I saw him sing "The Beautiful Ones". He did the song raw, belting the screams like he did back in the day, and allowing himself 2 take off with it....even lying down on the stage, the full effect of how this song was intended 2 be sung. He surprised both me and Tamiko by going in2 "Insatiable"....WHOA!...that was awesome! In falsetto he sang, letting his physical expressions work the song. Oh so nice. "Sign of the Times" brought Prince in2 a irritated mood, his guitar wasn't working properly...he wanted 2 break out in2 a solo, but couldn't get his guitar 2 play....passing it back 2 Takumi, he improvised by having the band play a little and he went in2 the chorus again. At one point, he spoke 2 Maceo.....and Maceo took 2 the mic and rolled in2 "Pass the Peas". Finally getting the guitar back in working condition....he wailed his guitar solo in "Question of U"...I guess a little anger helps. He went in2 a bluesy "After Midnight" where he talks about seeing 'twins in my bed, or am I going blind'...which made the crowd laugh. "Life of the Party" never sounded so funky. Prince eventually brought up a few members on stage and jammed on the guitar some more. He was playful once again and very friendly with his guest's on stage, allowing them 2 sing a few words 2 "Take Me With U". One person had his chance and couldn't get the right melody..Prince had 2 show him on his own song book what exactly he should sing. Encouraged by the crowd, we sung the proper words and helped the gentlemen out. "Everlasting Now" always gets me going....everyone was jumping up and down, U could feel the Fillmore's floor bend a little. Larry Graham guested on the first encore and slapped the bass silly. Prince picked up the bass 4 "Days of Wild" and funked it up just as much. Prince amazed me when he decided 2 pass the bass 2 the crowd....people were able 2 touch the bass, Prince's mighty weapon of choice 4 the song. Prince eventually asked the bass 2 be passed back 2 the front....it luckily made it back in one piece. The 2nd encore was a great ending 2 a party evening.....guitar riffs on "America" were slammin'. His cut in2 "No Diggity" got the people going and were singing and dancing 2 the tune. Echoes of "it ain't over" were ringing in the crowd. A perfect ending 2 a great weekend.

This weekend was a blast and i truly enjoyed it....i haven't had much sleep, but still very memorable. I was amongst friendly Northern Cali faces and new NPG members, we were all there 2 enjoy the Party, the Funk and learn a lesson or 2 about Musicology. With this being a warm up 2 his upcoming tour, who knows what he is going 2 bring out 2 us next.
Although I would say, he did prove 2 us.....he is the LIFE OF THE PARTY!!! Thanks Prince 4 a memorable Valentine's weekend I would place in my memory bank.

that's my review, I hope U all enjoyed it.
g'night
