SOUNDCHECK LIST FOR MELBOURNE 21ST - UPDATED!

1. Xemlify
2. Jam (apparently a jazzy instrumental)
3. Elephant And Flowers
4. Life Of The Party (new song)
5. Bambi (went for 10 mins)
6. Whole Lotta Love (also went for a good 10 mins)
7. (another song from xpectations)
8. Xemplify and this also went straight into When The Saints Go Marching In.

Now...all this information came straight from bkw. So you can trust what he's been doing. drink
The soundcheck was suppose to start at around 4pm, but didn't get underway until closer to 5pm. He played for an hour and a good 200 people attended the soundcheck. bkw said that you were allowed to sit wherever you wanted, so he grabed a spot up on stage about 10 metres from Prince. I hope he had bodygaurds. eek
Prince didn't talk alot during the soundcheck, but he did make some jokes and one liners. Requests weren't taken, or asked for, but it seems that the band were tight and the sound was amazing. Bambi was the major highlight.
There were other orgers there and bkw did give me names...but the pub he was calling from was noisy and I couldn't hear him very well. rolleyes
I'm sure someone will come along and give a better description of the night...but this should help you guys until then. thumbs up!

Someone did scream out Bambi, and I thought OMG he is really playing it. Coincidence, not request I guess.

Yeah. lol
Apparently someone did yell it out and he played it about 20 mins later. I think it was already going to be played.

Thanks althom!! biggrin

I wasn't on the stage you goose! I was front row though. biggrin

Bambi was the bees fucking knees let me tell you. Everyone I spoke to after the soundcheck was just buzzing and everyone of us felt that the performance of Bambi was worth the ticket price alone.

I can confirm that the 3rd song was "Life of the Party" which is a funky James Brown type tune. In fact, at the main concert he used the intro from James Browns "Hot Pants" which then segued into the new song.

The soundcheck was the best musical experience I have ever had. That band is so tight it's amazing.biggrin

I'll post more on a thread about the actual concert etc which also rocked!

It totally fuckin' killed!! The jazzy instrumental was a beautiful guitar intro that sounded like it was going to go into Gotta Broken Heart Again, I was *this* close to crying...he teased with the beginning of When you were Mine...sat down and pretended he was smoking during one of Renatos solos...looked very cool in white suit and purple shirt...I was about 10 feet away on stage right where he spent most of his time playing...total dream come true

Other things I remember about the soundcheck (which was amazing) - apologies if I mis-remember anything:
A lot of focus on band members doing their thing during the instrumentals. Prince would cue them with hand signals / nods etc.
Renato and John Blackwell in particular got a lot of solo time. I think everyone in the audience was blown away by his drumming. There was a cool little bit where he was going through the motions of solo-ing but without actually hitting the drums (if you get what I mean).
Rad and the other new keyboardist (Clint I think) were introduced - I think Clint is also a keyboardist but it was hard to tell as he stood behind a huge box thing which could have contained anything (keyboard or turntables, I don't know). During the actual show he came out on stage to sing 'Soul man' with Prince.
Rad is a good addition to the band, plus she can sing pretty damn well.
Prince also spent some time jamming on the keyboards towards the end.
While the show itself was absolutely great, the soundcheck was so impressive I think I stood there in stunned disbelief for most of the time.

i think it was nagoya from c-note, but no1 has confirmed it yet sad the only reason i say this is cause i remember hearing a whistle being blown during one of the jams, and it was in the same fashion as nagoya

If you had READ my review instead of getting pissy at me for posting it on your thread you would have seen that the instrumental was the title track from Xpectation. I can 100% confirm this nod

Heh

My 'memory' is especially vivid biggrin

There was an (awesome) instrumental between Life of The Party and Bambi as well. I don't know the name of it but I think it's Santana, maybe Toussaint L'Overture ? Not 100% about that because I don't have the Santana track to listen to wink

I've got one word to say to you Kim.

Cod piece!

In a couple of hundred years historians may discover that Prince's lyrics were written by Christopher Marlowe.
