Basement Aftershow thoughts.

You've seen the setlist on other threads so I'll just post some of my observations and feelings.

First of all I want to give a shoutout or two. I attended this gig with the beautiful Diva and her gorgeous mother, along with the great man, mynameisnotsusan. We all shared a special moment in time that will stay with us for eternity.

Every person that left that venue had a smile from ear to ear. They knew that had witnessed a once in a lifetime experience. Something to keep with them forever.

My only regret is that some of the brilliant fans that I met over the last week could not be there to see it and I hope that our expressions of joy over this show arnt taken as us rubbing it in. I would have loved for toccata, dnaplaya, mrdespues, lust, joshy, ally85, camma, goosey, althom and others I've no doubt forgotten to have ben there too.

This band is probably the best Prince has ever had. Talent is dripping out of every pour. How can there be a band better than this one? They improvised all night and not one of them let themselves down. Awesome.

The venue was perfect and I'd guess there were about 300 people in there. The sound was great cos they didnt have to pump it up too loud. It was very intimate.

Just a few observations:

-The intro to Brickhouse was the beginning of Musicology. It has a very distinctive drum beat.

-7779311 was amazing. He sung the first verse and chorus. After they jammed for a while Prince picked up the guitar and did the full guitar solo.

-The roof lifted off the venue in Purple Rain. He played a very faithfull version and the crowd joined in with the loudest singing I have ever heard. It clearly moved Prince.

-The second set was an absolute funkfest. Impossible to describe. The band was so tight it was astonishing. Prince spent a great deal of time playing his guitar at the side of the stage next to Mani. He is very clearly in love for real this time.

-The end rendition of Alphabet Street was so funky my head still hurts. I looked around the room and everyone was ecstatic and bobbing the heads. Prince and Larry traded licks, with P on guitar and Larry on bass. It was sensational. When the song closed the whole place erupted.

I think it is an absolute priviledge to have witnessed this display of genius. To have been part of a great moment in time with a couple of dear people. It will always stay with me.

Much love Brett.

I don't take it as rubbing in mad really mad

Nah really, I was worried about the same thing describing the second Melbourne concert to people who only went to the first. It's great to read your review.

What an experience the week has been...it's gonna take a while to come to terms with!!!

I gotta say it is really cool to read reviews from people who I have not been used to hearing from on the subject of Prince or his music.

I know that is the reason that most of us wander over to this site in the first place, but most of the time that gets lost in all the other stuff that goes on here.

It's just refreshing as reminders of the greatness that is still appreciated about Prince, even if we don't get to express it all the time... that when it comes time, folks step up to the plate.

Thanks, bkw, for another review! woot!

"Alphabet St" is surely the only Prince song Larry Graham has learned to play, cuz they've been playing that one on aftershows since 1998. So original...

Truly a magical gig. Perhaps the perfect aftershow jam. It had it all. Funky Jams and Classic Prince songs. I was so close that at one stage Prince almost stepped on my foot when he went 4 his pedals. Gonna take a while 4 me 2 get over this. if ever.

The Basement has recording facilities and a mixing desk. No doubt it was officially recorded. (Maybe the boot should be called THE BASEMENT TAPES?

So many legends have played The Basement, Miles Davis, Roy Ayers, Billy Cobham, Cindy Blackmon, George Benson, etc, etc. Now Prince can be added to the list!

All I can say is that I'm deeply depressed. I attended both concerts. Friday was absolutely magical, and luckily for me I was front row directly in front of Rhonda - screaming my head off... was a bit disappointed that we didn't have the same experience at the Basement. After lining up for over an hour at the Basement early Sunday morning I discovered that I did not have adequate funds to get in. And the sound coming out of there was torture.

I'm really really really pissed off with myself. If I weren't so deliriously tired I could have found $160 for my brother and I to get in, but I didn't. I'm such a loser and I cried all day yesterday.

I was hoping, selfishly, that reading this would not cause more anguish!

I'm so pleased for those of you who were able to experience this.

Well said BKW

PS everytime i saw u, u always had a beer in your hand. drink I should buy shares in Carlton!

I was in front of Renatos keys, with my girlfriend.
It was a trully special performance that i will never forget.

The whole NPG was on fire.

At one point prince said 'dont mind us, u can go home now, where just jammin'. It was too cool.
Did anyone notice Mani couldnt look at prince when he was onstage. However she was smiling.

I hope some1 has a copy.

I'm surprised that you remember anything about much as you talk about beer

However, you clearly have stayed sober enough to bring some of the most enjoyable and memorable concert reviews from OZ.

I swear some of you have been able to capture the event in such vivid clarity that I can almost feel the vibrations of the music. The pictures that fly through my head reading these reviews are . . . I'm speechless.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post your reviews.

Yes I will admit the green monster hit and deep, but you've brought it back alive.

Thanks
