I was there! Second time seeing the Revolution, after seeing them in San Antonio in June 2017. My wife and I met the band in San Antonio and they were all very nice and appreciative. It was less pricey to do the meet and greet at Emo’s so we did it again, because I had my ATWIAD CD with me and wanted it signed.

The show was great, I thought. Very similar to the 2017 show as far as the performance goes. Stokely is a great guest lead vocalist for DMSR, Let’s Work, Kiss, When Doves Cry. He brings some youthful energy to the show. The Revolution is great musically, but there’s not a lot going on on stage without Stokely.

Omitted from the set this time was Sometimes it Snows in April, which was a very emotional performance by just Wendy and Lisa in San Antonio in June 2017. Added to the set was All Day All Night.

We stood in the VIP section which was nothing more than a raised area at the back of the venue right behind the sound engineers. Running sound: Scottie Baldwin. He had a photo of himself and Prince on his monitor and hung out with some fans afterwards and answered some questions. Said Prince allowed him to feel empowered and creative, and he owes so much to him. Google “Scottie Baldwin Prince” and you’ll find many interviews with him like this one:

It was 12:30 or 12:45 before the band emerged for the meet and greet. BrownMark and Bobby Z were quick to move to the back of us who gathered, where my wife and I were standing. Spent a good 5 min one on one with Mark, who signed things for us and requested that we post photos and tag him. Bobby Z wanted to talk about Texas and what it meant to Prince, especially Houston. He asked if we had seen Prince’s last few appearances in Austin: JOTY Tour (we did) and ACL (did not). Lisa was quieter but also very kind; loved signing ATWIAD on CD and also a card for our podcast (see my sig). She saw our podcast’s name and put her hand over her heart and said, “Oh, that’s our song!” (referring to Mountains). Got photos with her, as well as Wendy (she is a hoot) and Dr Fink and Fink’s wife. Also met Bobby Z’s wife again (first time was in San Antonio).

They had different merch than in San Antonio - tshirts, and Parade and ATWIAD on vinyl already signed by the band for $100. That matched the meet and greet price and you can have them all sign whatever you’d like if you stay focused and make it to each of them. They also had postcards for free at the merch table.

Their show is a blast and they make it all about fans - longtime fans. I’m glad to have been able to see them twice (we live in San Antonio and it was only an hour drive to Emo’s in Austin). They are not a vanity act or out for a cash grab. Wendy’s plea to be kind to one another and to bear with them while they try to figure out what performing without Prince means, which songs make sense, and to make the crowd the lead vocalists for Purple Rain came off honest and sincere to me. I’d gladly pay to go again.

And - priceless to me - did get my CD copy of ATWIAD signed be all five of them. Something to hang on to forever.

It was a GREAT show!!!

I wasn’t prepared for how FUNKY it was. The first hour / you’re in you’re feet dancing. All Day, All Night was a surprising highlight.

Loved it.
