The Afternoon after.... Got back from KCMO this afternoon after attending the Tribute (4U) show last night at the Midland. I know all the setlists have already been posted, so all you in the fam already know what was played. Other than mentioning the woman violin player that really held it all together, I want to say that whatever portions of the KC symphony orchestra that played did an excellent job! I am not really a symphony kind of person, but the work they did last night really moved me...very much like I knew it would.
The restored Midland Theatre is absolutely gorgeous, and in 2016 they installed a trolley car system, so it is really easy to get back and forth to your parking lot and/or hotel. I had not been to downtown Kansas City in years, so I guess this also a plug for how nice it is now, with lots of newer resturants along with some of the old favorites.
They didn't try to hawk any merchandise there, which I actually did like...sort of like keeping the moneychangers out of the temple. (After all, so much can be purchased on-line.) My true feelings while the music washed over us, was pretty sentimental. Like when I listen to one of his 80's albums real loud and wish time could be re-wound. Which of course, it cannot.
So I guess a tiny explaination is due. My folks had spent time in Japan after the war, and my mother noticed how much everyone in the whole country it seemed to spend so much time viewing & appreciating the cherry blossoms for about a week. Mom said as an American she really didn't understand what was going on an asked her neighbor why it moved everyone so.
The neighbor said, "The cherry blossoms are so perfect, delicate, one of the finest of God's creations, but we know they will only last a very short time...so that makes them so dear to us. You might not live to see it happen again next year." And most of us here know that some things will never occur again.

Thanks! Actually, I was thinking about you and others that might have wanted to be there, but were unable to go. It was one of those happy/sad events. Just wish I had been able to see him just once in concert, but things never worked out for that. I guess when you are working for a living every day and trying to raise a family, your own interests get set aside for a time. Stay Purple!!
