Symphony Tributes I live in North Carolina, and our symphony will have a program this coming Wednesday night called "The Music of Prince". Are any other symphonies doing similar programs? I've got tickets, and cannot wait. Here's a blurb about it: Celebrate the life and legacy of “the Purple One” on his birthday! Stretching boundaries and seamlessly tying together genres, Prince revolutionized music and culture. The North Carolina Symphony and guest artists--including saxophone master Marcus Anderson, who toured with Prince and the New Power Generation, and singer/guitarist Marshall Charloff—take the stage for a memorable tribute with hits including “Purple Rain,” “When Doves Cry,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Kiss,” and more!

I don't know, some of the songs would be glorious no matter what style they were done in. I can't see doves cry being a good one for symphony but many of the others are fine. One my favorite Little Red Corvette versions is a marching band version.

Hi, acole - "The Music of Prince" premiered in STL in October 2016 and, while nothing compares to the real thing, I enjoyed it. Jason Tenner (Purple Reign - Las Vegas) was the front man for our performance so I cannot comment on Marshall Charloff as I've only seen him on YT. I think he's the front man in a Prince tribute band that includes Dr. Fink. Tenner is a bit over-the-top for my taste, (no Jason, there is only one Prince and you're not him), so this may be a good thing. It made me smile to see all ages attending...Prince would be so proud. After all, who doesn't love 70-somethings rocking out side-by-side with 20-somethings...or even younger! When we first heard, "dearly beloved..." you could feel emotion welling up in the room but then things got lively. I'm sure you will have a great time and it's a bonus to see it on June 7! Where are you in NC? I grew up in the Triangle. Hope this helps.

Pete, it's not just the symphony orchestra...Brent Havens, the conductor, brings a rock band that plays along with the symphony. It sounds strange...but it works. As you can imagine, some of the music when played by the full symphony is just glorious especially when people are out of their seats and dancing!

I live in Columbus Ohio, and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra will be playing with "former members of the NPG." Not sure who specifically. I will be going as long as I don't end up having to work. http://www.columbussympho...-of-prince "As long as I can hear you smilin' baby

the revolution will be here in a month, i'll most likely go. I'm surprised that they are playing a small venue, i'd have thought they'd be able to fill a bigger space. Ironically, it's the last venue that Prince played in Seattle, however, he charged 250 a ticket and they were gone in hours.
