Was anyone at the Detroit show last night? I'd love to hear your thought. I am somewhat conflicted about it. I thought the band was tight, crowd was on fire, there were some terrific fans dressed like Prince in various eras which was totally fun! However, I didn't particularly care for the dude they brought on stage to sing with them intermittently. I feel like whenever he sang, they were taken from and incredible band paying tribute to their loved one and reduced to a mediocre Prince cover band. JMO. Also, it seemed a few times even Wendy was checking him out like, "tone it down, dude"! I didn't catch the guy's name, I'm assuming he is local? Anyhow, I'm glad I went, as I said the crowd was really fun but I didn't leave with the euphoria I was expecting. |

Kmama07, I was there last night. I was about 10 feet back from the stage, dead center. After waiting about an hour and a half in line, then almost another hour standing in my spot, I was not about to move!
I get what you're saying about the guest singer. While I appreciate his talent (and his energy, which was insane), I can see your point that he kinda stole the spotlight in a way. He became the center of attention whenever he was on stage. I actually liked it when he left. Let me say this though: it's not his fault. He did a fantastic job, and I don't envy anyone in that position. I think he was trying to do Prince justice. I don't know about Wendy looking at him with a "tone it down" look. I think he was off-stage enough that he wasn't overkill.
The other guest star, who looked like an aged Lenny Kravitz or Jimi Hendrix, was much more welcome. He was there as backup guitarist - which is actually necessary to do the music justice. I believe both artists are from Detroit, but I couldn't catch their names.
My hearing is a bit off today -- that was one of the loudest concerts I've ever been to -- and being in such a small venue didn't help either!
I feel that right now, The Revolution is getting out there and doing their thing and that this is a sort of "trial run" which is why they're in smaller venues. IF they continue for years to come, I would suggest that they enlist guest stars from the Prince camp first and foremost. Dez, Andre, Sheila, etc.
Either way, it was a great show. |

Either way, it was a great show. I don't disagree with you in terms of not envying anyone in that position! He was good for what he was there for but I would have been just as well listening to only Wendy singing. The guest guitarist I thought was fantastic. As was the crowd! Really high energy and that in itself made the show for me. I wonder if I saw you in that incredibly long line!? I, too wormed my way to center, just left of the stage towards merch table. Great vantage point. It was really incredible how kind the crowd was (from what I saw) towards each other, singing to each other with huge smiling faces. That part was euphoric for me! |

Wendy seemed to be struggling with some of the singing when it was just her. They were better when they all harmonized. I'd love to cycle in Dez and Andre too. As far as the line, I entered it right where the building meets the parking lot. I wasn't way down the street like a lot of people were! If you saw the girl in line with the custom Controversy shower-poster shirt , I was just behind her. Inside, I was 2 or 3 people behind the person who passed out. |

I was there last night in Detroit. Though I thought the Revolution were great and had lots of energy for being over 50 and on tour for weeks now, I hated the venue and ended up leaving early. We got there around 6 and were in line just right around the corner from the entrance.
Once we finally got in, we got a great spot dead center, second "row." By the time it filled up, there were too many obnoxious drunk, screaming morons who pushed right up to us. I had my mom with me (early 60s), and she just couldn't take it anymore and left our prime spot to try and move by the wall. After she moved, those women around me just squeezed in tighter, actling like idiots . It was just too much for my 44 year old self. I gave up my spot and moved by the wall as well.
I love that they played Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden. Being a true Prince fan, I thought it was bittersweet. I bet more than half the people in that place had no idea what that was.
I also had my brother with me who is a musician and he noted how the sound was not good. He and my mom who do not know Prince songs by heart, had trouble understanding some of the lyrics.
I really wish they would have done a better venue, like maybe the Fox. Looks like they are doing these type of general admission venues throughout the tour though. I don't care for it.
Though I've seen Prince four times, I was never able to see him with the Revolution. I really was looking forward to this and hoped it would be healing. It wasn't. It was surreal seeing them in person and up close and they sound amazing. My brother was astonished on how they sould exactly like they do on their records. The venue and obnoxious audience ruined it for me.
The Majestic's maximum capicity is 1651. There must have been at least 2000 people in there. It was awful. [Edited 5/21/17 16:38pm] |

I agree though, I feel like they totally oversold the place and it was pretty uncomfortable getting around. The sound isn't the best at that venue. Ever. It's a shame they were booked there. The Fox or the State theater (whoops, I mean the Filmore...) would have been a better choice in my opinion. |

There was an after party in Detroit but don't think the entire band was there (I couldn't go...didn't have a babysitter who could stay late enough. Haha). Sorry I don't know logistics of BB Kings |

BB Kings is a loung with tables wheras they are playing mostly theaters, floor standing ga, usually a mezz (which they charge like 10bucks more for, maybe as a punishment for not getting down on the dance floor). But VIP runs 75-100 and its also the same dancefloor. And no one can nail down what it is. At least no one that has answered the phone. And your answer and one other post literallly is THE ONLY VIP INFO for real... and its pretty much... I dunno. Thanks though.

FYI, there will be no aftershow in Houston. The band is playing three cities in three days (San Antonio, Houston and Dallas). If there is an aftershow at all in Texas, it will be in Dallas. At least, that's what Dr. Fink and Brown Mark's people are telling us. |

The Revolution is so bada**. Wendy is as FUNKY as she wants to be. I just got home from their show at the House of Blues here in Dallas... My life has changed forever. Our Destiny/ Roadhouse Garden sounds 10x better live. I saw The Revolution perform at PP this past April & they've improved SO much since then. Not saying that they weren't great at PP but with the Celebration being so close to Prince's passing & with that being sort of the start of their tour, I understand having to figure out how to "mold" their shows. I'm still on a high. I hope they do this again. Everyone looked amazing. Bobby Z looked great. Dr. Fink is a master with the keys & so is Lisa. You can smell Wendy & Mark from down the street. Stokley was grooving & singing. I had an amazing time. & I met so many beautiful & kind ppl. I could type forever but I have to be at work later today lol |

Saw them last night in Dallas. My third Revolution show in 14 years including the Family Jam back in 2003. They were fantastic...although I could have done without the guest appearances by the front man.
No aftershow, but for the dozen of us who waited out back after the show we were treated to roughly an hour of pics, conversation, hugs and laughs with all five members of the band (at various times). They were incredibly gracious and giving of their time and insights. Wonderful band...wonderful people |

cool I thought about hanging out but 530 was calling so... but it was a great show! Even if Mark forgot twice where he was and Wendy's lyrics flub! The funny thing wendy said was something like "Prince wrote some good songs..." "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!" |

The Revolution concert was great last night in Houston. Accompanied by Stokely Williams (Mint Condition lead vocalist) for about 30% of the night. The songs they chose for him all suited him well. The whole concert was a very fun sing-a-long. I believe the only song where a large majority of the crowd wasn't singing along was Sometimes It Snows In April. For the other hour and a half, a great many in the crowd was singing along. I like that they didn't deviate much from the notes we expect or the vocals, so it was really fun to sing-a-long. I believe the set list was pretty much what has been listed already. Very fun concert. |

Here are four words you can trust (besides me telling you there are possible concert spoilers below):
GO SEE THE REVOLUTION
Wow, was that a great show! They brought it!
From the very beginning, when they were introduced just like in the movie - "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome......The Revolution" - to the last three songs, played in the same order they appeared in the film, there was nothing but maximum energy and love.
One of the best parts to me was to see how frenetic Brown Mark was. The man was a pogo stick! He must have had a lot of pent-up energy after having to stay motionless at Prince's side for several years. Whatever, it was clear that he was having the absolute time of his life. That joy can't help but project itself out to the crowd.
They played the songs just the way they played them back in the day. This included mashing up "Let's Go Crazy" with "Delirious" and then going back into a portion of LGC's extended section.
This also meant they played "Take Me With U" in the 80's style. Specifically, they played the bridge with two measures of Fmaj7 instead of the Fmaj7 - G/A arrangement Prince used from about 1995 on. I'm probably the only nerd that noticed that but it was interesting to me.
"Computer Blue" opened the show (which was PERFECT because of the Wendy and Lisa dialogue at the beginning). They extended it, too - all the way to the "Na na nana na" part. Really cool! The only disappointment in that one was Wendy's solo. She played her first part well (but standing up, LOL), but then she didn't play the actual lead line from "Father's" Song". Instead, she mainly stuck to the solo that's played underneath "Father's Song". But she played THAT well!
Speaking of Wendy's playing, maybe the coolest cool part of the show was Wendy ripping the opening riff of "When Doves Cry" to pretty much perfection. I did NOT expect her to play that. Heck, Prince basically never played it. But she nailed it and when I met her after the show, I complimented her on it. I got the biggest smile from her! She was very proud of that, and rightfully so.
The House of Blues was packed to the rafters. It was probably a sell out. The deal with going to the front of the line is this: If you eat dinner there and your total bill is at least $80, they'll stamp your ticket and let you go to the front of the line. We got there late and didn't finish our dinner until well after the doors had opened, so I can't tell for sure how well that works. BTW, there was a guy who went by the name of "Skinny Kravitz" playing guitar in the restaurant and he was NAILING the Prince stuff. I wish we could have heard more of him.
I'll end this review with the same words I started it with:
GO SEE THE REVOLUTION! |
