US Parade leg

So i KNOW that this is going to be a hell of a stretch but here it goes.....

Has anybody on here been to the 1986 Parade show's in the US (Hit n Run tour)?

I hear that those shows only got announced days or even hours prior to and without internet or mass communication other than telephones at the time I can't even IMAGINE the hot mess it must have been trying to get to the gig lol.

What were some of your memories of the experience?

Thoughts on his new look and sound (COMPLETE departure from PR)?

And did it seem like he would ever be bigger than MJ, granted that MJ hadn't released anything new since Thriller?

Not expecting much on this topic but here goes wink

My memory of this tour is not going!

I was 17 and my co-worker at the time (I worked in fast food during the summer when not in school) had an extra ticket to the Parade tour at Madison Square Garden and offered it to me knowing how much I liked Prince, but I had to turn it down because my family was going on vacation and I'd be out of town. Back then I didn't feel I was old enough or had enough clout to tell my parents I wasn't going on the family vacation and instead was staying home alone to see Prince. lol I had already seen him the year before at the end of the Purple Rain tour and later on the Lovesexy tour and many times afterward of course, but missing that show was one of my biggest regrets because Parade is my favorite album by anyone. And it's why I want the complete soundboard to that show to be released somehow more than any other concert.

I was fortunate enough to see this concert in Detroit at the Masonic Temple. The date was June 6th and it was the day before the famous birthday show in Detroit at Cobo. You are right, it was very difficult to score tickets and I missed out on getting tickets for the Cobo show. With very little notice, the Masonic Temple show was announced and a friend of a friend who knew how much I loved Prince was able to get tickets. We had fantastic seats too - maybe 6 or 8 rows from the stage. The concert, as I can recall, was very similar to the birthday show at Cobo the next night. Amazing!!

This got me thinking, my first Prince concert was 32 years ago yesterday. Purple Rain - November 4, 1984 @ the Joe Louis Arena. "Detroit, I've come to play with you". I saw 3 of those 7 shows in November of 1984.

I attended both "Parade" shows at MSG, NYC. August 2nd & 3rd. 30 years ago wow! Yes, it was the first time I ever heard the term "hit and run tour". You're correct, tix sales were announced like a week or 10 days in advance. Went on sale like the next day and boom show was the following week. Unheard of at the time and welcome to the first of what became many crazy live show ticket buying xperiences of a Prince Fam.

MTV, Radio and local newpapers were my only source of tix sales plus everyone who knew me always called to let me know. That still occurs, so much so I jumped on a plane the day he died and headed to Mnny as I couldn't deal with everyone looking for me. That was a whole nother trip.

Thinking back.....Stage was small & stripped down compared to the extensive Purple Rain Show set I saw the prior year in March of '85. Black & white checked stage floor so retro cool but also looked like the floor of an Italian restaurant at the time. Had the opportunity to witness Sheila walk by in a skin tight open belly turqouise dress and she was all of 28 years old. Looked amazing as she sauntered through the floor up to the stage to co-sign a brand new "Love Bizare" and it was party on with the roof is on fire chant and all. OMG such menories I am cracking up just typing this. Was in Cleveland last month and there was Sheila again walking right by me to the stage....total Deja Vu! This time still looking beautiful but in a long white symbol butterfly tee and white pants.

Parade was such a simple yet fantastic show filled with energy and even a bitten apple whizzed over my head by Wendy. Guess symbolically taking a bite out of the Big Apple NYC (during the I wonder U number). Price wore a great overcoat with PJ's while doing the final encores and Love Bizarre romp.

Thank U for asking it once again makes me so grateful to have been on this Prince journey with so many of U for all these years! Hope that have you a little insight of that era.
