Review from the Star Tribune. Jon Bream is right, no one compares to the man himself. But the thought and effort is what counts the most. I do take issue though with his quibble about lacking Star power. This was a tribute to Prince. As long as the performances were good it shouldn't matter whether an A-lister was performing them or not. Real fans would be more interested in hearing those who worked and toured with Prince than people who are there just because they bring so-called star power.

Agreed. Yet there is no denying the difference when chaka and stevie were on stage. They kicked it up several notches. God bless andre. I have such respect for him since the revolution show I went to last month. I have to say the smaller venue was perfect for him. The large arena sort of dwarfed him. But I still enjoyed his performances. The hardcore fans loved the show. It's the casual fans who got bored with it and left early as there were lots of open seats aftER the intermission.

Huh? I was there and it looked nothing like this crowd. But maybe before we got there?

Morris Hayes did an amazing job as musical director.

It's great that he was chosen to do that.

Towards the end of the concert, Mr. Hayes reminded the audience of their "promise" to return if they were to hold the concert again in the future.

Let's hope they do it again.

In fact, let's hope they take this amazing show on the road for all of the Prince fams to enjoy.

Came from Morris's FB page. I'm guessing that image was from 4/21 or 4/22 then.

I honestly don't think so because I saw the pictures from April and practically everyone was visibly very emotional or just flat out crying. The mood in this pic is quite different from those.

Hi, friends! I'm still worn out from last night, but I wanted to chime in about the show. It was well and truly EPIC. Aside from a few timing and lyrical snags, it went very well. There were a lot of performers to wrangle. LOL! Chaka and Stevie were highlights for me, as well as getting to see Mayte perform for the first time. I also got to see the NPG members who played with Prince back when I became a fan in 1995 (Sonny, Mr. Hayes, Tommy, Michael B), which made me very nostalgic. The whole thing was very bittersweet, and I was a wreck every time they showed videos of Prince, also during "Sometimes it Snows", "Diamonds and Pearls" (the first Prince song I remember hearing as a child), and that "Purple Rain" finale!! It gave me chills to hear our beloved Prince's voice, and to see the whole crew take the stage, along with members of the family. I filmed it with my "real" camera, so I will upload it after flying back home to Seattle. After the show, my best friend and I ran downstairs to gather some of the confetti that fell during Purple Rain. Mr. Hayes was meeting and greeting with some folks, so I chatted with him for a bit too. He asked me if they did good, and I gave him an enthusiastic yes, and thanked him from the bottom of my heart for doing this. It was really something, and I can't believe that it all worked out. Here are s few pics, including the lineup and also a t-shirt with some of the confetti. Amazing! Just absolutely amazing!! You were all so blessed to experience that incredible evening! Wish I could have been there. sad

Looking at the billboard in the back it's an iPhone something S so it can't be a recent photo. I'm not sure when else First Ave had people spilling in the streets this year other than right after he passed.

Just the media dumping on these great musicians. Some of whom did this for free or just there travel expenses.

Compare this today's shitty artist.

It would be hard for just about anyone to flawlessly musical direct a 5 hour show. Perhaps they could have cut some of the filler and tightened a bit. I just find it interesting that regular Prince fans (even die hards) really enjoyed this but those reading media reviews only would have a completely different opinion.

I don't see how anyone can judge the concert if they hadn't watched it, either in a live stream or in person. Even watching it on Periscope, I was pleasantly surprised that it turned out better than I thought it would. It was uneven and had some glitches, but even so, the majority of performers--associated with Prince in some form--did a great job in honoring a man whose dainty high-heeled shoes will never be filled...

I didn't read this review but I will just say they come at things from an entirely different angle than the other attendees. So I take it all with a grain of salt. Bottom line is it's going to be a problem doing a tight, concise tribute to someone as prolific as Prince. They probably could have, or should have, cut down on the number of performers. Prince had A LOT of protege's and such over the years, some better than others. They maybe tried too hard to include too broad of an assortment if that makes sense. Dont get me wrong I enjoyed the show very much and found it worth every minute and every penny I spent, but it wouldn't have broken my heart either if they had been a bit more restrained on the number of artists they had participate. I'm sure anyone there can think of a moment or two they wouldnt have missed if it had been snipped.

Shelby J was at PP today and posted a FB video. Another one who says this is what Prince wanted because he told her so. She said she's going to be performing at the Muse tonight around 10:30 local time.

Shelby is great, she just radiates love and happiness. No wonder Prince brought her into his world.

Anything specific you would have cut? I wasn't there but just from reports and reading reviews I think Ana Moura, Doug E. Fresh and Tony M were probably not necessary. And Andre probably didn't need to do 4 songs.
