Audiences "ruining" the tour?

Sorry to be a pain in the ass, just saw the "Heroes" excerpt,
and the same goes for the original "LRC/Dirty Mind" performance.

The hysteric aficionados ruin it for me.
Here's Skipper doin' beautiful performances, and you have these stupids famz
yelling at every phrase, this is more than annoying, it's ruining every recording.

Instead of prohibiting the phone videos (which by the way would gave real world-wide viral exposition to the tour and hence assure his success), he'd better prohibit public noises before the songs endings.

Completely agree!

Though for the people attending the concert will have had a complete different experience, I guess.

But again, the pleasure of listening is compeltely ruined for me too.

We'll have to wait for a decent soundboard recording.

When Springsteen played solo shows he politely asked the crowd not to scream or clap. The right thing to do in these intimate circomstances.

yeah but prince is also constantly pulling faces, acting like he's fainting or overwhelmed,

standing up, walking around inbetween lines of the same song, etc, eliciting hysterics from

the crowd as well. i bet that doesn't help in calming down the nutcases lol

but yeah, i've noticed the same thing and it made me decide not to go see this solo tour
if he comes to my country. i'm 37 years old, slightly agoraphobic, and grumpy to a fault.
i just can't deal with that kind of shit, especially not if i had to pay for it falloff

the only slightly positive thing though is that at least the screaming idiots are having fun smile

Yeah, this would've been the right tour/setting to reduce that kind of posturing for the crowd. It's part of the deal now shrug

I'm sensitive to noise and people talking throughout shows. But I saw the second Toronto show and we were all enraptured by Prince, except there was one woman a few rows back who kept screaming "I love you Prince" "Fan for 32 years!!!!!!!!!!!!" It was annoying but it didn't ruin the show for me.

I am more annoyed by people talking throughout a show or whipping out their phones every two seconds and being distracted by the white screen. Thankfully Prince doesn't allow the second.

I'm also annoyed when people scream throughout the ballads but the audience was generally well behaved on Friday. Plus, Prince played a lot of uptempo songs.

Hahaha, that lady was hilarious. I think part of it is because it was a smaller venue, so individual people could be heard very clearly. I must admit, I yelled a couple things myself during the second show, but at the right times. When I listen to the recording I'll be checking for myself lol. The vibes of the second show seemed to permit a more involved audience though. It had a real good energy and Prince was really loose and playful. So it worked.

Sorry, but you are a pain in the "matako" if you pardon my Swahili. He's an entertainer. He plays for the people who are there, not for those who stay at home listening to bootlegs. Then again, too much screaming can get annoying: it's what stopped The Beatles from touring. But Prince, he just loves the applause. Alright then, Skipper, this is 4 U: woot! clapping

I dont mind people having a reaction to his antics or songs - or making sounds at the excitment of hearing their favourite song - but I dont like the screaming out "I love you Prince" so much - but having said that when he did that at the SOH show 2 to that woman in the crowd it was kind of funny when he had a reaction - but what I do Hate is people talking !!!!!!! When the songs slow down and suddenly people start to discuss the show - that is super annoying to me and rude.

I hate it when going to the cinema too and people talk - which is why I hardly go anymore.

wink

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

^One way of dealing with this is saying to these people:"I'm sorry, is Prince interrupting your conversation? Because then, maybe we could go down there and ask him to keep it quiet. Shall we do that? Shall we go down there and ask Prince to keep it quiet so that you can talk? Come on! Let's go! Shall we? No? Why not?..."

I was at the 2002 show at the Kodak in LA. He had been doing almost all brand new material for the first hour, a lot of instrumental jamming. I was seated next to 5 "work ladies" that were there to party. They sat quietly enough through the first part but as soon as he hit Strange Relationship, they started going WOOP WOOP! Which was OK in the moment, crowd coming to life for a song they know is all well & good, but they kept doing it even as he was trying to do Avalanche. One would yell WOOP WOOP! and they would all go WOOP WOOP! and laugh real hard.

.

The guy in front of me turned around and said "Do you mind? I'm trying to listen to Prince."

.

Oh boy was that a bad idea. "Hey listen to this STUPID ASS trying to tell everybody what to do. You don't like it mister? WOOP WOOP WOOOOOOP! Hahahahaha." Then like three of them group together behind him and scream as loud as they can in his ears "WOOP WOOP!" The guy and I both notice at the same time, there is a very large gentleman accompanying these ladies.

.

I chose that moment to go to the bathroom, spotted a couple empty seats across the aisle and three rows up. When I came back, they were still empty, so I sat in one and stayed there. Zen and the art of concert etiquette enforcement.

yup, and that's the reason i don't go to concerts anymore. i'm hearing it from a lot of people, they just don't go to movies or concerts anymore, due to these kind of people sad

witnessed it a few times myself, that someone finally stood up (thankfully) to say something only to become the target of even more shit or even physical violence.

why some people even bother to go to a movie or a concert is beyond me. they seem to be there just to rile people up and start a fight.

You're right - the energy was great. I admit, I laughed at some of the woman's comments. They were funny. I guess I can't imagine myself screaming out like that (I can't even yell that loud). But the show was so good, I'm sure it's hard not to react. I'm usually reserved but once Prince started playing Baby I'm a Star, I just burst out of my seat.

I'm not for a classical music concernt type of crowd. Just coughs, damn...

Live music is for the good spirited.
But Piano and Voice only deserves good conditions, for everyone.

I sure wish the warholian 5-minutes of celebrity syndrome (more of a virus) will disappear someday.
Every utter cretin feels allowed to shout his/her presence to the world.
I almost don't mind in the street, but I tolerate it less at an artist's venue.

YES. And also, he's constantly calling for response from the audience, whether it be hand claps, or "check-ma-kwah."

very true. which is why the atmosphere is getting worse. people who really care about the movies

or the music or the theatre shows stay away and just enjoy it at home once it's released on dvd,
eventhough that's not as authentic an experience, perhaps. but it is the better experience these
days, since at home = no stress, no assholes.

so there's more seats left for the assholes who are like "oh yeah, let's check out prince, i didn't

even know he was still alive. probably cool to post an instagram of him singing purple rain, no?"
or the shitheads who just go to a movie, any movie to be out on a friday night, withouth caring

for the film at all.

Oh my gosh, agreed!
I just saw Prince in Toronto & it was SO annoying to have people screaming out at him.
Not only because i went to hear Prince sing, not hear others yell at him, but it's also extremely distracting for a musician. There's just no respect.

Stupid, drunk, disrespectful people ruined the afterparty, as well.
I'm 99% sure Prince first came into the club via the back door in a teddy bear mascot suit - probably to dance around - and idiots were smacking him around. Exit fast.

When he came on stage, he said "clear the floor so i can dance with y'all"
Not a chance. I have been waiting 30 years to be able to see Prince live, it would have been a dream come true to spend a night dancing with him. But no, under 30 drunken partiers just stayed smacked in like sardines, screaming cause they wanted him to perform again like their monkey.
If that disrepect is what the new, young generation of fans looks like, I won't blame Prince if he stops touring.

Some of the songs were just too funky to sit still. How awesome was that version of Black Sweat with the introduction about his pops? I could barely contain myself. And when he got the audience chanting during the end of Little Red Corvette, I think it was, with the guys yelling "Slow down!" and the girls cooing.....or when the crowd chanted "FREE~ Free yourself, you've got to free yourself!" for five straight minutes. Absolutely electric.

you really are precious aren't you, cupcake? you are probably exactly the kind of person
i'm talking about. and in case you still don't get it, i have been to many concerts and have
in the past *sometimes* been bothered by said behaviour. it did however become worse
over time, and in the last 5 years or so it's horrible to go anywhere.

just to be completely clear: nobody is talking about audience participation or people who
sing along to songs, clap, or scream now and then or people laughing during movies or
others asking 'who is he again' and someone else explaining or people making noise with
their popcorn falloff

we're talking about people who come to a concert, sit next to you, behind you, in front of
you and just start talking/behaving as if they are in a cafe, not even noticing what's going
on with prince or whomever on stage for 80% of the time or looking at the movie. they're
just there for god knows what reason, fucking things up for others.

still, i don't feel those people don't have a right to be there, they obviously bought their
their ticked (for god knows what reason). so they do have as much right to be there as
anyone else. they do however poison the atmosphere for people who do care. they are
rude and as is once again made clear by stories of people on this thread, get agressive
or very mad if someone asks them to please be quiet.

sound familiar?

yet by your reasoning, the people who stop going to shows are arrogant and suffer from a
false sense of entitlement? why? because we don't bother anyone and stay at home?

or because we speak about our experiences *once* with a few people who share some of
our views?

once again, here we are, kind of going 'ah, so it's not just me, there are other people who
are sick of this behaviour'.

and in comes you, shouting, name calling, with your hyperbole and rudeness. that's low
man.

My wife and I were at the first Paisley shows...the first show was intimate and very personal as Prince really opened up about his father, etc. and stupid ass fans were yelling and trying to sing with him, he kept his cool. The later 10pm showI felt that he was getting annoyed as I know the woman behind us kept screaming and tried to sing every song. The two women in front of of us were sitting next to his assistant Meron and I could see she was getting annoyed as well.

When you are at a smaller venue....Shut the fuck up and enjoy the show, if Prince wants you to sing along he will ask for it. AND no pictures!!!! I'm just lucky that what we saw at Paisley will never compare to the other shows we have seen. Prince mentioned it was hist 1st time doing this and happy to share with us as he usysally just plasy alone at night.

I so respect what he's doing and hopefully dumb fans wont ruin and he ends up stopping any further shows.

I was there for both shows at Paisley as well. I agree 100% with you! Still looking for Atlanta tickets one for each show!!!

Refering to Prince as "Skipper"?

It serves as reminder. Before falling so madly in love with himself, he was just some unknown fourteen years old kid born in the U.S.A., at some point.

So it's an homage to the burgeoning, adolescent fire that latter evolved into The Kid.
And a reminder of who he has become in comparison, probably.

It's bittersweet if U will.

I'm so wishing he comes to the NJ PAC so I can get a good seat...but after reading all of this may keep me away. I'm that person who cannot tolerate that.

I'm quite shocked at this! Audiences ruining the tour?? eek Wow. I have seen Prince many times over the years and was at two of his shows in Sydney recently. Were the audience excited? Yes! Were people screaming, clapping, singing, jumping up and down? Hell yes! I was front row for one of the shows and let me tell you, Prince was LOVING it!

These are live shows, not studio recordings. The audience's energy feeds the performer. How can that possibly be a bad thing?!

For me personally, the concert would have been "ruined" by an audience who sat quietly and politely listened. It might have made for a cleaner recording but a flat atmosphere and experience, and I don't believe Prince would have enjoyed it either. That's not the kind of performer he is.

It's live, it's raw, it's energy, it's electric and people are experiencing something real, in that moment, away from their electronic worlds, together. Human beings, bonded by energy, excitement, passion and joy. It's rare and it's incredibly beautiful. No, exuberant audiences CANNOT ruin the tour! biggrin
