The medley of Controversy into I would die 4 U, and then into Baby I'm a Star was really amazing. The whole show was. It did start late though, like 9:30ish. Ushers wouldn't let us into the arena to the seats until a little after 9. So walking through by the bathrooms and concessions was insane.

Merch line was crazy, but I ducked out for a few minutes during the set and had to get a shirt and hooked up a forum member with a program.

When I saw him at the Fillmore in SF in 2014 he played Little Red Corvette on the keyboard and also When Doves Cry (with drum machine), which he did tonight too. At that Fillmore show he did a whole segment of the set on the keyboard(with paino tone) by himself and I remember that feeling really special, so it's cool he did a whole show with just paino and vocals.

Tonight he came out on a long purple carpet, ofcourse. And when leaving the stage he would ride a bicycle down the carpet to the back.

HEY GUYS

ok.. so i have been a real P hater in the last few years.. for a variety of reasons...

BUT

after tonight's concert.. I realized again why I love him so much.

It was pure heaven... to me, it was even BETTER than the shows in the intimate venue.. i wasnt sure how it would translate into the arena.. but it was perfect....

the place was on FIRE for him tonight... he HAD to just feel the love..

he just kept playing and playing.... he teased the HELL out of us at the end.. after Free Urself.. he left off with that one on Sunday night... so I thought for sure it was done.. but NOPE...

he comes out and bangs out a GORGEOUS Thieves in the Temple / It

Then I Wanna Be Your Lover, Do Me Baby and Adore!

UN REAL!

I cant even start... if you are a total crazy Prince head like me.. there is no way you could be disappointed.... i will try to give as many song titles as possible.. i cant at all rmember the order..

RocknRoll Love Affair

Baltimore- please note.. he started with a piano somewhere over the rainbow.. and one other song i think ?..... but to be honest.. the sound was NOT GOOD in the beginning.. i couldtn hear a thing and I was worried...

The Breakdown - things started to get better

No need to worry.. it all went turbo aroudn the 3rd or 4th song:

ICNTTPOYM

Dirty Mind - First Verse and Chorus - no LRC mashup

LRC

Purple Music (holy crap)

Ballad of Dorothy Parker - im not kidding

Waiting in Vain / If I Was Your Girlfriend - just mind blowing again

Controversy - really great

I Would Die 4 U - UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL

Baby Im A Star

How Come You Dont Call Me

Raspberry Beret - NO TAKE ME WITH U!!!!!

Starfish & Coffee !!

Paisley Park !!!!

Sometimes it Snows - longer than last weekend.. he didnt abort it like last weekend

Purple Rain

Dear Mr. Man - sounded great

Cream

Diamonds & Pearls

Venus De Milo

Condition of the heart - 30 seconds maybe no singing

Under the Cherry Moon - no singing

Nothing Compares 2 U - REALLY great

When Doves Cry - total shocker.. included the drum beat a la the sampler set... it was AWESOME

Black Sweat

Kiss

Free Urself

Thieves in the Temple

It

I Wanna Be Your Lover

Do Me Baby

Adore - fucking stellar

copies of Hit n Run 2 were also given out as we exited.. nice surprise

thats all i can remember ... but can you even believe this setlist!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great concert. Glad to have brought my two young kids so that they could witness the best of the best.

His performance of "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?" was a definite highlight.

Unfortunately, we left after "Free Urself", and I'm sorry we didn't sit for the third encore.

Yes it was crazy energy the setlist was solid and the thieves version was just insane. But Jesus Christ the afterparty. I've been to a few and that right there was rediculous. Just too much to explain.

I wish we all were nude. I wish there was no black or white I wish there were no rules.

"I don't need no doctor"

"Replace the 'I' with a 'u' and what do you get?... FUNK"

Does he say the above during the other piano shows as well? Is this a dig at Dr Fink?

Prince mentioned that we made him feel really good and that's when he went into the sampler set and played When Doves Cry. Too hot! Question: why does he mislead people in thinking he's done for the nite? A lot of people left and he came back out like 2 or 3 times. He does this at every concert. I know to stay but many people don't and miss out. Such a hot show!

Thank you for that link. That setlist is absolutely accurate.

I'm still glowing from last night's set. I've been seeing Prince shows since the Lovesexy era, and l think last night's performance was the best, or rather my favorite performance I've seen of him. Songs I didn't necessarily care for (like Somewhere Here On Earth) were re-illuminated, and he took great care with some songs. like Do Me Baby, Theives in the Temple, Waiting in Vain/If I Was Your Girfriend... Black Sweat was fucking amazing. I had thought he had lost some of his voice over the years, but he let out all the super Prince high notes, and it was like it was 1984 or something. Much of his vocal performance was just stunning.

I cried during the the full version of The Beautiful Ones. He also did fucking Purple Music!!

He is certainly in a good place musically. His performances on this tour have been amazing. I've seen four shows and have been awed every single time.

BTW:

.

At this stage in the tour (near the end or not..), what do we think about his effort here?

Has he surpassed himself?

Has he brought back the piano intermezzo feel of the 1988 shows? Something different?

Something more? Less?

And how does this show compare?

It's been awesome

However I preferred the pure piano from 88 vs the piano/synth now

Also his voice was better in 88

I think it´s a great tour concept. He plays the hits but in a new, fresher way than the usual greatest hits with a band setlist that we´ve come so accustomed to.

He also plays wellknown songs that he hasn´t played in a long time or has never played at all.

The storytelling element in between songs is a great idea.

Personally, I find this much more interesting than his usually short piano medleys in regular shows.

He´s reflecting on his life and career and seems more open. Always a good thing.

He seems to have made peace with people who used to be in the Prince camp during his heyday....people who haven´t been that close with Prince or who had fallen out with Prince are there again.......both sides seem to be more mellow these days....which is also a good thing (Apollonia, Susan Moonsie, Brenda Bennet , Jamie Shoop and even Jill Jones were at the show in Oakland and Prince gave them a shoutout on Twitter).

He mentioned Vanity during his shows.

He plays songs that he deemed a tad to risqué a couple of years ago.

And......he is probably making tons of money with this tour concept since the cost is very minimal (just a piano instead of a band and crazy big stage show).

He´s getting a lot of respect and standing ovations even though he hasn´t really been in the spotlight with a commercial album or movie or tour.

And critics AND fans seem to be pleased.

.

Let´s see how long this is going to continue and what´s next.

All in all, this is an interesting and good phase so far.

Kudos to Prince for his stamina, longevity and inspiration.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
