Just got home and can give you my review. Overall this was a very good and a nice crowd pleasing performance. He played a lot of play it safe hits and a few more fam numbers. The set list first and then my comments.

.

Started quite late about 15 minutes behind schedule, all the shows started with the stage (Piano and 4 sets of candles at edges) and then it darkened, classical music played for 4 or 5 minutes and then in the middle a purple light illuminated Princes silhouette, Prince emerges with his cane, sat down and plays. And that is what he did, very little banter and a lot of playing, stretching songs out, mashing them and pounding the ivories for all its worth.

.

Starts with I would die 4 u and moves into Baby I'm a star, the line Take a picture baby changes to "Take no pictures"

He then says "Hello New Zealand, I am Prince!"

Little Red Corvette, interspersed with Dirty Mind and he sings it all!!!, back into Little Red Corvette, with audience singalong.

More talking about Hello Auckland, then

Take me with u, real crowd pleasing with massive crowd interaction.

I feel 4 u, which is amazing, one line change "Physically attracted, becomes Spiritually attracted to you".

Then Controversy, again singalong

Ruff Enuff and mentions his father taught him and his father taught him, playing Piano melodies.

Thanks NZ

Then plays a long and beautiful mix of Condition of the heart

this becomes Noon Rendezvous which drives me apeshit.

The Most Beautiful girl in the world

Forever in my life (By now I have decided this night can never end)

Rock n Roll love affair, he makes the audience that goes silent, by making them sing the refrain to it over and over again.

.

Leaves the stage and everyone thinks its over after 60 mins, but he comes back and launches into ......

Then he does the Breakdown and really ramps up the falsetto, which drives the audience apeshit again.

Plays opening chords of the Question of U which becomes an extended Pop life, again with Prince making us sing most of the words.

He then plays the main lines of Black Muse interspersed with piano ramblings and this changes to Girls and Boys, again with massive audience participation.

The lights come one and he performs Cream, a great song to me and even better he lets us sing most of it, making us repeat lines several time as he needs to hear them "Come on - You're filthy cute and baby u know it."

This is followed by a great mash up of Thieves in the Temple followed by It and all of Thieves to end the mash up.

Then he plays a shortened Purple Rain, but with all the verses and again leaves the stage. Everyone cheers in Purple Rain and Prince enjoys the adulation.

2 minutes later Prince reemerges....

...

Raspberry Beret, another song with huge audience participation and moves can you believe it into Starfish and Coffee and again we get to sing along.

He then does a sampler type thing with half of Paisley Park and half of Black Sweat which naturally leads into Kiss with a sing along a la Cream, with Prince expecting repeats of lines when the voices are not loud enough!

He leaves the stage again

......

To re emerge 3 minutes later and he lies on the piano, saying "We are going to be here all night, Auckland am I ure friend? to which everyone shrieks yes.

He plays a very extended version of Nothing Compares 2 U.

.......

Prince picks up his cane, bows, blows kisses and leaves the stage, its 8.45pm and we have had 2 hours of true greatness.

.

the audience was generally good, a few loud and obnoxious screaming fans like "We love you Prince" and the like, Prince pays no attention.

.....

Overall a 8.5 to 9/10, as it is not as good as show 2, but I will tell you that after my nap.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

That was in my top 5 I most wanted to hear when I went to the Paisley Park shows. Hopefully he'll keep it in the set and I'll get to see more shows. Sounds like you had a great time!

I can't work today. I keep trying to use my keyboard as a piano. I can't type without attempting runs. sad

What a night. Adorecream has done the setlists justice so you know what went down, though he didn'tr actualy come on until 7 and was gone by 8.30 so the 2.5 hous mentioned in the Herald was horseshit. The 2nd show wan at 2hrs and wouldve had 90 mins of material unique from the fist show so all in all it was 3 hours of unique stuff.

Prince took us to church last night. Auckland came of age, the sky tower (the tallest building in the southern hemisphere) glowed purple so we may be about to be invaded by some aliens on a funk finding mission.

I'm sufferering the purple crash today. You all know what I mean right?

If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

Kick ass review.

I'll say this knowing it will be not seen / ignored, but if ever there was a tour that deserved to be documented and sold online like, well pretty much any internet loving artist does, this feels like the one. There's so much diversity in song choice and even the way individual songs are being presented from show to show that I would pretty much snap them all up.

Hey Prince, just ask Bruce to give you the code for this: http://live.brucespringsteen.net/

And there's money to be made. 24 shows of his current tour selling for between 214 and 600(!) bucks. A single show between 10 and 25 bucks.

although not as much as I dig the pure BartVanHemelen comment on it at the end lol

Edit: ah apologies, that was already posted
