That does not really help us.

How does it not help? If Prince stops a company taking advantage of music fans and ripping them off, how does that not help?

I really don't understand the level of negative responses to his actions. Are you really saying you would rather let a company make truly vast sums of money that they are not entitled to by cheating you (either costing fans much more money or largely preventing most fans from buying a ticket at all!), just so that you can buy them at the time they were advertised to go on - sale? It makes absolutely no sense at all.

There may well be other ways to sell tickets, but it shouldn't have to happen in the first place. Why should we be trying to work around wrong - doers? Surely the right thing is to stop them? Imagine if we applied this logic to other aspects of life - people get mugged, but let's not make a law making it illegal, just stay at home, you don't need to go out. Banks get robbed, but let's not deal with that, find somewhere else to put your money.

Prince makes a stand against something that is not right and a seemingly large proportion here just moan because they weren't able to buy their ticket at the time advertised - it is beyond belief.

Thanks for bringing some sensibility to this forum. It almost seems like people want to be pissed at Prince, but this is the same thing that happened in the states with the hitnrun tour. Tix sold out in seconds on TM, but were available for jacked up prices on the after market sites owned by TM. It's all a racquet, he is just doing something about it this time around. Wish he would've stepped up to be plate about this issue sooner, but better late than never I guess.

Hey, Lets Cancel the Tour and give in to the Terrorists.

Cancelling the Tour doesn't mean that you are giving in to any terrorists, in this day and age, you have to think about your safety and the safety of others! Terrorism is real, and obviously those people aren't just playing around.

I talking about his tour, not about the situation in Paris. Is he going to try to use a different souce to sell tickets ? Whether he decides to cancel the whole thing because of the terrible scenes in paris is a separate issue. I personally hope he doesn't cancel the tour because of the Paris situation. Not only would he be setting a example for the ticket situation but show strength in carrying on with the tour, and show support for Paris and europe for that matter in these difficult times.

I didn't realise the ticket scam was SO big. Just watched Despatches - Viagogo the great ticket scandal on You Tube ( thanks to who posted the link earlier).

Viagogo pretend to be a fan to fan ticket selling website. But they buy shit loads of tickets themselves, double the face value and then rip off fans. Wow.

The really really sad thing is they make so much money from this they don't need to sell all the tickets, so every night tickets get thrown in the bin.

The love of money eh.

At this moment in time it is best for Prince to cancel this tour.

He needs time to get the ticketing right - which is so very important, after all he is doing the best for the fans.

Also, people need time to heal. It's not a time to party.

This tour can wait. Prince and us all will still be here - so just give it time.

Whether he cancels or not, these evil bastards are in the world. They will go hit anyone anywhere - whether it's a P gig, someone else or a nightclub. People have to do what they feel is right in their hearts. I would keep myself safe and avoid the bigger cities - but that's cos I have a family now. If it was just me I'd live my life just the same.

it absolutely is giving into terrorists. Terrorists aren't just trying to kill the people that died, they are trying to disrupt our way of life out of fear that they will strike again. That is the primary point behind what they do.

I'm not saying don't alter plans to ensure your own safety, I'm simply pointing out that doing so is giving the terrorists what they want.

.

Statements about Paris add nothing unless they give information on changse being implemented to fix this situation and/or prevent this from happening.

And that won't happen.

W.r.t. a tour: it very well might be postponed.

A more risqué statement would indeed be for P to hire the Bataclan very soon (with bullet holes and all) for x nights and perform there.

Maybe do shows with appropriate content of exactly y minutes.

Ticket price would be z because P would not be profiting too much from this.

(x, y and z we can discuss)

But that won't happen.

There is still a state of emergency in France so entertainment is the last thing on their minds anyway. But we're talking about two different things here! The ticket fiasco happened before the terrorist attacks. And there's a thread about that in P&R.

It is either that or he suddenly cares about his real fans. He does have some true diehards in France though. That is for sure. Nice people too.

.

How would the stricter ticket rules work in that direction?

Foo Fighters did it recently with some smaller club shows. Prince sends out a tweet early in the morning about a show that night. You get in line as soon as you get the tweet. Tickets are limited to 2 per person. But that 2nd person needs to be with you in line. You come back the same night with tickets, credit card you used to get the ticket and photo i.d. in hand. Word of mouth spreads fast these days on twitter. And you remember how many people were in line when Donna sent out a tweet for the cancelled Toronto show. It might be faster for him to do this rather than set up another NPG music club. I think bands are cancelling out of respect for the city, not because they are afraid of more attacks. But like someone said earlier, when the city is ready to bounce back, Prince should play the Bataclan. I feel sorry for Eagles of Death Metal who lost a member of their crew. I think it was the guy selling their merchandise, probably stuck in the lobby or something.

My assumption is Prince wants these shows to have a more "black tie", upscale feel. These won't be rock concerts in which fans are screaming and waving their arms. As such I don't expect the fans to stand in line for hours for a ticket. However your solution would work with online sales as well. You buy up to 2 tickets online with your card. Delivery is will-call only, and you must present your card and photo ID at the time of the show. This is not an uncommon ticketing process, and it solves exactly this problem.

On another note, when these shows happen, I will be praying for a blu-ray release of one of them. This show is going to be epic, if the PP dry run was any indication.

That's ok as long as you live in the cities he is playing. Puts those who live elsewhere at a disadvantage. NPGMC was and is the solution to ensure tickets fall into the hands of fans across the country. No doubt too late for this now so queueing probably is the next best way.

I understand the good intentions behind the same day ticket sale to defeat the touts, but If the main goal is to get the real fans into the concert, it does not work.
If you live within the vicinity of the venue, Yes.
If you have days of spare time or are a youngster with no responsibilities, Yes.
If you use Twitter? Yes

....By all means sell the tickets directly from the venue with photo id and Ccard conformation,

But please not at less than a days notice, purple people have lives and they are not getting any younger. smile

Actually an upscale Prince performance at a "sit only" venue may be exactly what the people of Paris need right now. ala Baltimore. I wouldn't be surprised if Prince has already recorded a song about it. Take it one step further and broadcast it live on Canal+. Sort of an F.U to the pencil-penis Islamic terrorists.
