I don't want to be overly optimistic, but this could be the Prince tour I've hoped for for years. Prince. An instrument. Pure talent.

I'm gonna tell ya this, I was at PP sat night and it was absolutely Incredible... He's right U coulda heard a pin drop, it was the most powerful and enticing Prince performance I have seen in hmm forever?

I would have paid 1000's just to see that.. I still can't wrap my mind around this one it was soo amazing...

.

Don't miss it, trust me!!!!

nod nod nod

He took the pin drop comment from one of my posts on the thread about the show at PP. eek

I'm not convinced that these shows in Europe are only going to be Prince and his piano. He has been rehearsing this new lineup for some reason. Aftershows maybe?

I sure hope you're right.

I would be enthusiastic if it had happened earlier in his career.

Say what you want, but his voice is slowly showing signs of weakness.
But worse, I really do believe he's too far gone to have the acuity
of doing a really interesting show.

Some of us are already playing the boring playlist game,
but in such a bad way that it clearly shows no comprehension whatsoever
of the instrument the piano is.
"The One" ?
On piano ?
The crap barely takes off with 32 tracks, and you want it unplugged ?

If that's Skipper's audience musical demanding nowadays, I wish you a good concert,
but like trax said, I'm not that die hard either.

But worry not. It's not going to be "The One".
It's going to be "Cream", "Little Red Corvette" ruined for the Xth time, and so forth.
One thing's for sure : it is not going to be the 1988 Dortmund medley, folks :
These days, Skipper has hip and hair problems.
Worse, he thinks he has "too many hits".
Sorry, but I can't stand seeing Prince ruining himself again.

I fear 90 minutes of vocal mannerisms, intentional false starts,
overdone ad-libs, all of this over a bland playlist.

My only hope is that he'll just shut up and play the piano.

Now THAT would be great.

If I want to create imaginary playlists I will.
Why don't u sod off with all your negativity & try & appreciate a lesser artist.
This tour could be really special & magical for most fans. I just hope I manage to get a ticket!!

I think he'll do how he did us last saturday... first, one man alone then after 6-7 songs he'll bring the band and let them climaxx... haha U were there U know what I'm talkin about so let the fools here complain cuz they have no idea whats gonna hit them if they re lucky enuff to make the shows smile

I hope he takes those Europeans to the theater also. Watching Prince walk in and talk (briefly) with fans was the high point of my life's experiences with him.

Prince Alone : A night from the Vault:The format would lend itself excellently for this as there is no band to instruct. With the last years as example I have my thoughts however of the formatting and for Prince on keys.He has done many piano segments and they nearly always were snippets, medleys or samples as teaser to fill the hits and rarities in one fleating moment.Prince appears more to be a tease and colourist and I seldom have heard fully fleshed out Piano Renditions of songs (unlike Tori Amos who uses this instrument by default). The One Night Alone Piano cd is a rarity in this matter. The possible format of 2 shows a night and his versitality in choices has the aspect of feeling losing out on the other show and being on a timeschedule. Because you already choose for that specific night and then have to gamble with show you take. In that case I would glady play more for a whole evening.--Does he take the bösendorfer with him?--Pros:The good news is however that he feels he has to prove something,He seems to be challenging himself. That's cool and commendable.

Two shows per night seems like that's how it will go down to me. Maybe 90 minutes at the most for each show, and a different set, which reminds me...I'd expect every show to have spontaneous moments and song choices. This is the first time he's performing a full show solo, so he doesn't have to rely on other musicians being rehearsed for whatever he performs on the night. I reckon you'll see a unique "set list" for each show.

I get what you're saying and I agree that'd be a great thing to see, but I have to disagree with you as to it happening that way -- Prince doesn't have a history of seeming to like 'spontaneous moments' regarding performances. He likes everything PLANNED OUT.

I think you misunderstand my comments. For a guy with the artistic vision and freedom that Prince evidently wants, he needs solid revenue streams or he won't be able to sustain the cost of all his toys (multiple studios, rehearsal spaces, session players, facilities team etc etc etc). Its basic economics. I don't think I said anything about financial ruin as far as I can rememeber. What he is doing is a good way of making revenue pretty quickley while minimising costs. Its just efficient and his audience get something they haven't seen from him before. So I'm yawning at your comments as I type this over your overlly precious attitude towards a pretty innocuous statement!!!

It's the jumps in conclusions that defy logic. Like I said, there have been predictions of bankruptcy for 25 years. I know nothing of his financial state, but I believe as long as he can walk, sing, and play guitar, he will never struggle for cash. The fact that PP IS operating right now is a pretty good indication all is good. For many years it was dark, who knows why?

Jumping to the conclusion this is a cash grab is like me saying kidsherriff is posting on prince.org therefore he must be jobless, no spouse, no gf/bf, and no prospects. Really quite silly because I'm sure you're dashing in every way.

Jesus Christ, can you people not read!? I didn't presume a thing. I merely suggested that since Paisley has a running cost, then perhaps this is a good way of making easy money while satisfying his fans with something a bit different. He probably makes ten times as much money through property deals and investments than he does from the music industry these days anyway so he probably doesn't care too much! Besides that he regular sells out shows with his 'Million dollar show'!

Does being a Prince fan mean you're not aloud to speculate without being jumped on for 'Presumptions' these days. As a slight aside, and I would like to add this is not a presumption; Prince has been close to bankruptcy a couple of times before and clawed his way back so even if he were in financial straights (which he probably isn't', it wouldn't be the first time!

Indeed. I'd rather it was just him and a guitar than just him and a piano, and the thought of an entire show of ballads is horrific to me (I'd rather it was an entire show of the synth set, even), but let's wait and see what he has in mind. A Prince solo tour is something I've always wanted to see.

Prince has never played a tour that was specifically billed as PIANO and a microphone before, we have no precedent. Bullshit about the sampler set and previous keyboard solo spots in a larger show are just that.

If you want to complain about his piano skills so be it, maybe he'll practice for this and pull out for Rachmaninov just for you.

In all other cases: P will not use an acoustic piano.

This seems to be an actually planned tour though. Not just a prince turns up in a city and asks to play venues tomorrow.

See what I wrote.

I did! You're claiming this will be a synth show based on nothing but previous shows that were not billed as solo piano shows.

Well, the original article as translated on the Housequake FB page:

Prince Spotlight: Piano & A Microphone, will be an novel format for him, a musician known for live shows which are pure sweat. He will perform alone, with a microphone and a grand piano. With no band and in theaters of European capital cities.

I agree that it remains to be seen if this will actually be the case or not but right now it's about as official as it gets.

maybe he'll practice for this and pull out for Rachmaninov just for you.

.

Now that is what you need to call bullshit or I will call bullshit on you.

Yeah, we can dream though, right? lol
