This is fantastic news. This album deserves recognition & to not sink without trace like so many protege albums. I much prefer this to HITnRUN!!

Press release:

LOS ANGELES, CA - September 17, 2015 - Back In Time, the debut album from acclaimed singer/songwriter Judith Hill, will be released through NPG Records on October 23. The wide release follows the album's unprecedented introduction in March 2015, when Live Nation made it available to newsletter subscribers for free for a brief 48 hours.

Hill co-produced the soulful Back In Time with multi-platinum icon Prince. Their creative partnership began after Judith named the legendary artist as her dream collaborator in an interview. Prince called her shortly thereafter and invited her to Paisley Park Studios. The playful behind-the-scenes video, which premiered today, captures the jam-like vibe of the subsequent recording sessions.

The scintillating, horn-fueled "Cry, Cry, Cry," one of eleven tracks penned by Hill for Back In Time, is streaming now on TIDAL and Spotify (see below for the album's full track listing).

Rolling Stone has praised Hill's "seasoned, soulful sound" and The Wall Street Journal noted, "[She] has pipes, experience, style." The Huffington Post hailed her as "a standout talent" and Idolator observed, "Her pitch, range and style are absolutely outstanding."

Hill, who opened for Prince on his spring 2015 tour, duets with him on "Million $ Show," the lead-off track on his new album, HITNRUN Phase One, which was released this month. She won a GRAMMY® earlier this year when the Morgan Neville-directed documentary 20 Feet From Stardom was honored as Best Music Film. The film, which also won an Oscar, shines the spotlight on the untold true story of singers like Hill and co-stars Darlene Love, Merry Clayton and Lisa Fischer, who have backed some of the greatest musical legends of the 21st century. Judith has supported such artists as the late Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, John Legend and Josh Groban.

Hill, who wrote her first song when she was only four years old, comes from a musical family. Her mother, a classical pianist from Japan, and her father, a funk bass player, both played with Sly Stone, Chaka Khan, Rufus and many other artists.

Back In Time - Track Listing

* As Trains Go By
* Turn Up
* Angel in the Dark
* Beautiful Life
* Cure
* Love Trip
* My People
* Wild Tonight
* Cry, Cry, Cry
* Jammin' in the Basement
* Back in Time

I love this album and will definitely be picking up a copy in stores if it gets a physical release. The video is cool, but obviously filmed several months ago. The stage where she is playing on is the stage setup in the Love 4 One Another room at Paisley Park. I saw her do 3 shows there earlier this year. Her voice is great!

I just saw the video to "back in time - behin the scenes" and realized it's Mononeon on the bass. God I LOVE the guy!! I guess he's on the album too? Someone can confirm? I usually don't care for protegees albums but that bass alone is worth the bother. I didn't know he was working with Prince.

I think you're right. I noticed him today watching it again. Only because of all the neon stickers he had going on & the sock on the end of his bass lol

It wasn't made yesterday... It's flippin snowing. Your precious P can't do a million things s at once...record promote and tour 5 different projects. Is your undying and unending support of Prince shy in this cuz it isn't a Prince record? If u take some time and listen to it...U'd have to admit it's better than your your boyfriends record.

Interesting that this new photo of her looks a lot less Asian than other photos. Just an interesting observation. Hmmmm.......I wonder why. Also, that screen shot of Prince really shows the 100 tons of make-up he puts on before being filmed. I mean, yeah he looks great.....but that is a shit ton of make-up.

Still looks HELLAH Asian to me. Do u think she went got that eyelid surgery or something? Doesn't look that way to me at all...still looks like good ol Judith. I don't see any difference, but I'm no eyelid expert.

I like that Prince seeks out new collaborators damn near every year, whether it's for his album or someone he is producing. I dug "Back To Life" from the moment I heard the music from the WeTransfer link last April, mainly for the music and Judith's talent as a vocalist is superb. I hope Prince uses some of the musicians that is in Judth's band for his own recordings in the future. I wish her nothing but success on her project next month.

Back In Time...not Back To Life.

But yeah. I dug it to. It's better than HitNRun. I'm glad it's getting a Proper Release rather than just the we transfer give away. That record is tré funky and über organic.

I guess he settled ol' girls contract issues with 'The Voice'

You must have watched a different film by the same title than I did then.

Thanks. I guess he forgot the Asian half of her. Or it is just more of the same nonsense he posts. And that photo makes her look like a black woman when she is clearly half asian/ half black. But I understand that they will try and market her as some sort of black R&B artist. Nothing against Judith but I can't see anyone lining up for this new album, since most of us already got it for free.

If noone & yourself can't see. That's a VERY RACIST REMARK to make!

What's wrong with her looking like a black woman? That is what she is and that is what she will ALWAYS be considered . Tiger Woods will ALWAYS be considered a BLACK man.

You're the one being racist, KFool. What's wrong with being Japanese? Not a damn thing. What's being discussed (wayyy the fuck over your head) is that any attempts to de-emphasize her Japanese roots is just as racist as trying to make a black artist look more Caucasian to increase sales.

Judith is African American *and* Japanese. Not one or the other. And damn is she beautiful! (Oh, and for what it's worth I absolutely love this record.)
