I wonder if Prince will be brave and play any new songs or just play it safe and do a medley of hits. I guess the audience wont know much about either anyway. This will be Bouncy's and Jay zzzzzzzzz's party.

Jay Z, Beyonce And Prince Among Headliners For Tidal Charity Show

By WENN i

Jay Z

Rap mogul Jay Z, one of the superstar investors in the artist-owned app, announced plans to stage a major party in his native Brooklyn on Tuesday (29Sep15), and a day later (30Sep15), the details for the big bash have been unveiled.

The musicians will be joined by Lil Wayne, Nick Jonas, Fabolous, Damien Marley, T.I., Big Sean and country singer Thomas Rhett, among many others, while comedian Jimmy Kimmel is also slated to make an appearance.

The TIDAL X: 1020 show will take place at the Barclay's Center on 20 October (15) and will stream live online.

The gig is aimed at "raising awareness, funds, conscious engagement & dynamic action for transformative & positive social impact", according to a post on the streaming site's official Twitter page. It will also serve as the "first in a series of philanthropic music events curated by Tidal".

Jay Z launched the streaming service in March (15) with co-owners includingBeyonce, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Madonna, Kanye West and Daft Punk, but the stars faced a backlash from critics over the company's subscription fees, amid concerns the lack of a free service, which is provided by rival Spotify, could drive music-lovers back to illegal downloads.

What has this merger done for Prince that has made it so VERY successful for him, please do tell?

Lets see, he has avenue to exploit his catalog and new music in a system and work with a team he is comfortable with..thats a win/win

This will likely make a few headlines over the next few weeks given who's involved. If I were Prince, I'd see this as a perfect opportunity to piggyback off that exposure and release Phase Two of Hitnrun, which will hopefully feature Stare and Free Urself (and while I'm in dreamland, 2Y2D). If he's unwilling to properly promote his own music anymore then he should let the press attention of this concert do it for him.

Saying "Prince merged with Tidal" is overstating it, don't you think? They're working together and his music is available on their site, but that's not a "merger" any more than me posting here is me merging with prince.org.

That's what U think! prince would NEVER give 90% of his catalog, new albums, weekly new cuts freah out the studio, plus 2 free concerts 2 Tidal without a stake in it. Why do U think he is so happy?

[Edited 9/30/15 17:00pm]

.
So, by that logic, Prince would never have many of his albums for sale on iTunes, Amazon, and big box stores. Prince has merged with Apple, Amazon, Target, Wal Mart and Best Buy. He called the Today Show today; he has merged with NBC as well.

He may have equity in Tidal. No artist is given equity in any of those business unless they go out and buy stock in those company. I am not going to explain stock or equity Goggle is your friend.

He may have gotten equity instead of an upfront payment for HNR. If thats the case, Im not sure who got the better deal: Tidal with the extra 8 signups for the paid service, or Prince who now owns a piece of white elephant.

.
MAY have equity - this is my point. Don't post about Prince's "merger with Tidal" based on speculation. And even if he was given equity in a fledgling streaming service, that's not a merger. People don't merge with companies.

My point is that just because a lot of Prince's catalog is available on Tidal doesn't mean Prince "merged with Tidal." No one here knows the details of that arrangement and shouldn't post as if they do without a cited source.
.
Prince's "arrangement with Tidal," sure. Prince's "merger with Tidal" - overstated at best, fabricated at worst.

rolleyes

prince has NEVER PUT the majority of these Slaughterhouse,Chocolate Invasion,C-Note,News,Xpectation,OneNieAlone,TheVault,TheTruth,Emancipation,Planet Earth,LotusFlow3r on any of those streaming services b4..

.
LotusFlow3r was an exclusive release at Target. That didn't mean Prince "merged with Target."
.
Prince has some exclusive releases, one truncated Baltimore concert and an upcoming concert on Tidal. How is this a merger with Tidal?

It's quite astonishing how much bullshit you can put in so few words.

Also, just look at that list of artists:

.

The musicians will be joined by Lil Wayne, Nick Jonas, Fabolous, Damien Marley, T.I., Big Sean and country singer Thomas Rhett, among many others, while comedian Jimmy Kimmel is also slated to make an appearance.

.

That's the sort of company you want Prince to be in? Seriously?

Maybe, the thought process is to win some of the youngsters over live, and to show that the mature audience has a market for Tidal. Also: Get some production offers from Beyonce and possibly Jonas... (He's worked with Rihanna and Rita Ora recently ..1 current and 1 former Rock Nation artist).

My guess.

prince has 2 b over the moon! That he now has control over his masters, own publishing company, tours whenever & whereever he feels like it. Plus now a very lucrative online streaming deal through Tidal. That pays him what he deserves for his precious "MaStErPiEcEs".

He's such a smart business man! He has it covered all the way around. Eye'm so proud of him.

He's a BOSS MAN! The industry adores him... biggrin

Two of my TOP artist have taken COMPLETE control over their careers, that people constantly write off as has beens. prince & the SUPER talented beautiful, billionaire Janet jackson(who should win a Grammy just for her successful comeback alone).. They're both WINNING this year..

Gotta give it to you for once, Bart. That list of 'artists' is awful. Actually it's bottom of the barrel dreadful. Not to mention the likes of Jay Z, Nicky Minaj and Usher.. What's P doing among these clowns?

It's KCoolMuziq. Prince did a thing and therefore it's awesome. Doesn't matter how, why or what he accomplished. Prince took a walk this afternoon. "OMG! Prince blessed the sidewalk with the soles of his shoes!" Prince cleared his throat and ate some toast for breakfast. "What a masterful move by Prince". Prince wiped his ass with his left hand instead of his right and used the crumple technique instead of the fold. "WOW! What a masterpiece of anal hygeine." She's insane.

Janet secretly married Billionaire tycoon Wissam Al Mana in 2012. He built a luxury empire in the middle east. that represents Giorgio Armani,Hermes etc. He also owns stakes in Saks Fifth Avenue stores. His net worth is 1 billion. He is NOT an oil tycoon..They reside in Saudi Arabia.

If he's unwilling to properly promote his own music anymore then he should let the press attention of this concert do it for him.

I really don't understand why it matters so much that he promotes his albums to people on here. If he is happy with the results why does it bother people on here so much? I am just glad we got new music and I really don't care if he protomes it or not. He obviously has a deal over the past decade or so that works for him and he is happy with it. He has more money then he will ever need so he is not deserate for sales

Probably because he, himself, is so often "not happy with the results". I'm Counting The Days until he sues or badmouths Jay Z and/or Tidal. He seems to want US to care, doesn't he? He preaches about it enough to make me think so.

And if you think Prince himself doesn't care about sales/money, you're clearly kidding and deluding yourself. It may have been true for a certain while and in particularly compartmental phases of his career but, ohhh baby, does this cat ever love him some money. Sometimes more than others, for sure but god damn. Money is all he ever seems to talk about any more. He's just smart enough to know that there's not much cash to be made anymore by releasing albums.

If he's happy with the deal he made then good him but I'm gonna wait and see how it shakes out 6 months to a year from now.

---- I think the whole point that a lot of people are trying to make is that he is making money off of this deal with Tidal. Either he received money up front and /or has equity in the business. He did not get into this thing to get nothing out of it and I doubt he loves money more than any other sane person.

Also, just look at that list of artists:

The musicians will be joined by Lil Wayne, Nick Jonas, Fabolous, Damien Marley, T.I., Big Sean and country singer Thomas Rhett, among many others, while comedian Jimmy Kimmel is also slated to make an appearance.
