It is just after 2am as I type this. I just left and there was no sign of Prince. Took the studio tour...very cool experience. I also met Josh Welton. He was just walking around. It was a good time. Was it $60 worth of fun? Well, that depends, how much do you like the movie "car wash"?

-
Liv rocked it though. The crowd was mostly newbies hoping to catch a glimpse of Prince.

Night 3 reverted back to night 1's experience. No sightings of Prince, and an early shut-down time. I went to the D'Angelo concert at First Avenue, so I didn't get to Paisley Park until 1:30am. Liv Warfield was onstage funking it up again, but I hoped right in line to take the last studio tour of the night. I've heard many say this, but it really was worth $20. He has like 4 or 5 different studios. We got to hear some new songs again, then watched Kirky J and Donna jam for a minute in the big studio before leaving.

biggrin

Now to the sad part of my night 3 experience. Of course everyone was hoping Prince would perform, so once Liv got done, people started congregating in front of the main stage in the big room. Once again, there were no instruments set up, so it didn't look promising. I was in the lobby socializing after our tour, then all of sudden the lights come on and everyone is being asked to make there way out. It was only 2:00am, and I had only been there 30 minutes. So basically I paid $60 for the studio tour ($40 entry + $20 tour), then had to shut it down for the night. I talked to my peoples that were there all night and they said no one saw Prince at all.

mad

So here's my vent. Prince had a chance to make everyone very happy, even more so than Saturday, but he chose not to. There were a lot of people there, and many of us came from either another country or another state. Instead, he once again chose to leave people feeling used for their money, and also hurt his future chances of getting that many people to come support his endevors unless they know for sure he's performing. He could've just done a 1 hour jam set and people would have supported him forever, but a lot of people are done taking chances with Prince. It cost too much money to gamble on Prince, and he doesn't seem to care. So this was not a good night, and the energy proved it. It was nothing like Saturday. People have to learn to not expect anything from Prince, but Prince has to learn to give his loyal supporters what they want sometimes. It's a two way street, and overall this was a dead end for those of us who are experienced Paisley Parkers. For the newbies, Saturday made the weekend worth it. Keep Prince in your prayers, because no one knows why he was so evasive.

I think these events at PPark are just to keep Josh and the band occupied with something to fill up their weekends. It is almost like they are running their own nightclub in some ways. It also gives Prince a chance to clean out his storage rooms full of merchandise. Everyone knows you don't pay $60 with any hope of seeing Prince perform. He's probably busy in another room banging hot chicks and watching Netflix.

(Maybe) He attended The D'Angelo concert...

They are musically connected (sort of)... and Jesse is a friend.

LOL when it comes to Love 4 One Another!

Tried to make contact with people from the past here - I will not say names - but no feed back for a meeting of sorts! (I'm still young at heart - WHERE R U?)

$40 bucks ------- hmmmmm he well knows one can c a full concert at the Dakota for that! I would think he could have, should have had a little sampler of his INTERNATIONAL CONCERT!

In town - and no kick-off concert for those who went? Seriously?

MORE IMPORTANLY, AND MUCH MORE, is that living in America provides many with opportunites if they only want to have them. THAT IS WHY PEOPLE COME HERE. AMERICA has helped take down the Hitlers of the world. (WHEN IT COMES TO WHITE SLAVERY - IT TOOK PLACE WAY BEFORE THE US) Look at the statistics when it comes to POLICE PUTTING THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE AND THE MISHAPS - WHITES r shot down more then any other race - why - because there are more whites maybe. REASON.....POLICE FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES WHEN IT COMES TO ANY THUG COMING UP AGAINST THEM. Not to say there are injustices with all races for different reasons. WHY - beause no one is perfect. SCARY, SCARY WORLD. U should learn to APPRECIATE LOTS OF THINGS - ESPECIALLY YOUR FANS!

GLAD I DIDN'T GO!

WE WERE LOST IN THE DISTANCE.......IT WAS.........? THAT BROUGHT US BACK!

I'm pretty sure that's mid-town Manhattan (NYC). Somewhere around 5th Avenue and 50th street (Rockefeller Center)

Not sure if it was photoshopped or not. But I don't recall there being a billboard like that anywhere in the area.

  • This weekend was clearly advertised as a Dance Party. To me, touring the studios was even more special than seeing Prince per4m, though i have seen him play before. Half the band was participating in the tours all night long. Showcasing local talent is a very cool thing for Prince to do and inspires every aspiring musician to think, 'that could be me.' I think $60 was well worth it, though might have valued the tour at more than the entry. The speakerphone calls were Prince's nightly (audio) appearance. Studio A was drenched in Prince Presence, like feeling Prince instead of seeing him.

Paisley Park may be more about experiencing high quality sound, according to the theory that sound is trans4mational, and less about seeing Prince like some kind of spectacle. In a vision-dominant world, i think Prince is great inner Listener, and maybe he wants us to experience the depths he hears.

Dancing is a big deal too. You can dance anywhere but PP is an especiallly great atmosphere, as LiV reminded, to Free Yourself, as Prince frees himself. Dancing is more than 'just dancing' -- for many years it was extremely illegal in the US for Native Americans to do their traditional dances, because it's powerful.

We all lead busy lives, i had to leave early to get ready to meet a taxi to the airport, but would have loved to dance there all night to the beautiful hitnrun. I think it's generous of Prince to open the doors of his sanctuary to help keep people from becoming zombies. He has to pay a lot of people to make everything run smoothly at these events, letting hundreds of total strangers come over to enjoy music.

But Prince leaves it up to you to figure it out, as if he really wants you to use your mind, and pray for wisdom.

wow! that was FUN!!! FINALLY GOT TO HEAR THE NEW ALBUM Y'ALL!! THE WHOLE THING AND NOT JUST SNIPPETS! just... WOW!

.

the party began like others began, a line of people in cars parked outside the gates, awaiting parking lot entry, and a line of people standing across from the gate. the guards were very clear: no cellphones. nope, nyet, nada and not.

.

i noticed a lot of new people there last night (and every night really, it was truly an international event), and it seemed like most people don't know ahout the cellphone policy. lots of people had no clue and there were a lot of folk running back to their cars to drop phones off.

.

the parking lot lady was there, and people gave her a kind of standing ovation when she came out to organize us biggrin

.

we got in around 10:00 or so? the music was thumping and people were lining up in numbers for the tour. this time the line of people waiting for the tour went down one side of the big room and wrapped around near the front end of the stage. people drifted back and forth between the L4OA room and the big room.

.

again snacks and drinks were being sold in the back of the big room. love that grapefruit crush. merchandise was available in the lobby area.

.

the band was great, they lit up the room for a set and folks loved them. picture the L4OA room packed with people swaying, with 'car wash' playing onscreen in the background. biggrin

.

liv warfield was announced and also played last night. as always SHE DELIVERED!!!!! that gal can sing and she's passionate about her craft. great show.

.

at some point (12:01 france time) josh welton came out and spoke to us about the album, he told us that in france the first official release was out.

.

i'm sort of glossing over the other band and other bits (which were excellent) to get to the good part. THEY PLAYED THE NEW ALBUM FOR US. below i have shamelessly copied comeone else's set list. i'm not even gonna comment on each track or review the songs, first of all i suck at that and besides everyone had a different response to the music.

.

1. Million Dollar Show

2. Shut This Down

3. Ain't About 2 Stop

4. Like A Mack

5. This Could B Us

6. Fallinlove2nite

7. X's Face

8. Hardrocklover

9. Mr. Nelson

10. 1,000 Xs and Os

11. June

.

for me, hearing the new album is what the weekend was all about. i've heard bits and snippets, downloads and all, but there is nothing like hearing the new album all the way through.

this album is different from anything i've heard from him/them before. it's definitely a new step in the prince evolutionary story.

.

imo the album has a sly sexy feeling, like seduction, a mixture of sweet harmony and grind your ass beats. funkier than dirt, imo. where did he get that? every time i think ' well, he's got to run out of new ideas someday' but nope. prince proves me wrong wrong wrong every time. the sound is really fresh and overall the album is very danceable.

.

can't wait to get my copy (they told us available today for download from Tidal, and in stores sept. 14/15). this album will take some time to really absorb.

.

after hearing the album i found myself wishing i'd taken the tour, just to see where the music was cooked up and how. big oops on my part, but then again i've taken the tour of paisley park at a celebration years ago, and the line to get in was really long.

.

i'm sorry there isn't another event tonight. another excellent visit to the magical world of paisley park. so grateful for the chance to hang and dance and meet people and see old friends and hear the new album. overall this has been a great weekend! thank you, paisley people.

Listened to the album today. Congratulations Prince, another mediocre album!!! Excess songs from the vault, I can't say nothing else. You sucessfully fooled Tidal Prince. A bunch of crappy songs from the vault, that would not have found any release otherwise. And oh oh Josh should be soo thankful for getting the chance to mix that crap. Bye bye career of Josh.

Great night of funk for your $60,

LP Music warmed it up with an hour of jazz-leaning instrumental funk, then over two hours of a great show by a man that knows how to lead a band, play guitar, and can funk with with the best, with a great DJ spinning between sets.

Oh yeah... This was at First Avenue for D'Angelo.
At least someone showed up and played a ripping hot show this weekend...!

You wrote this perfectly and from the heart. I've been a long-time fan and seen him countless times at Paisley - so I've been very blessed and, yes, spoiled too. That said, I only went Friday night and didn't get a good vibe he would be playing any night this weekend. It would be nice to know if he is or isn't in the future. Even if we needed to pay more to see him. I hope the out-of-town fans weren't too disappointed. hug

FYI These pics are not from Saturday night. I'll never understand people bitching and complaining that Prince didn't show his face or perform. This was clearly advertised as and "International Dance Party" for $40. After the folks literally chased him down after he got off stage with Liv the 2 times, I don't blame him for not showing his face Sunday.

Interesting u won't let me edit my other - just ranting - trying to understand.

True about it's great u open your doors for people to be set free - true that! It appears after reading more there was a great deal of live music from other artists - that's good!smile

Dancing is ingrained in a child - one can see before they can even walk enjoying the rythm of music. Music is international.
