I was thinking of driving up from Madison, but it's all just too iffy for me. If I went tonight, he didn't play, and then I found out he DID play on Saturday night, I'd be more bummed than if I just stayed home. So home it is! lol

In the past, for larger events, there were shuttle buses running from Lifetime Fitness down the road. There has been no mention of that this time, so I don't think I would go there and wait for it?

At a recent event (maybe 6 months ago) the child care business very near PP charged people to park in their lot/grass/whatever...

Aside from that, there is the PP lot, which is quite small...and then you have to go down (south) Audubon and find side streets and walk back to PP. There is no parking on Audubon and there will likely be signs in the grass saying that.

Unless they post more details, this is all we know at this point?!?

Trax, sure, 40 bucks for a 3 hour concert by Prince where he plays a bunch of obscure stuff. How about that!

He did the year before. He played Dark, Extraloveable, The Max, couple others had Bobby Z on drums for Purple Rain, Big City...it was 50.00 that night. he was in rare form.

@ChrisRstrib: No Prince in sight at Paisley Park 2nite.
The $40 got you @GRRRLPRTY, who performed for $10 (w/ booze) at First Ave last wknd.

No prince, Grrrl prty performed. I left at 12:30 didn't hear any of the new album, they were selling "mini tours" of paisley for $20, I didn't rake it since I did the tour during the celebrations years ago. I was kind of bored.

I left at 1:15. Heard that those who paid for the tour got to hear 3 new songs. So apparently it cost extra to hear songs from the album that the release party was being held for. I enjoyed myself anyway. I like GRRRL Party.

My friend was going to leave about 15 minutes after me if it didn't pick up and I haven't gotten a text yet to tell me if I missed anything, so curious if he's still there/if anything transpired.

arrrived about 9:00 pm. parked in the little culdesac down from the daycare center (pp parking lot was already full) and joined a bunch of people lined up across the street from the parking lot gates. the north side of the park was lit up all purple on the outside and there was a touch of heat lightning overhead.

.

it was breezy enough outside to cut all the hot we've been having here in mpls, and the crowd was upbeat and fun. i saw some guy with a camera crew taking shots inside and outside the park over the course of the evening.

.

we were allowed to take our cellphones inside on condition we not use them and 'respect folks' privacy'.

.

the gate guards let us in at 9:30-45 or so, allowing small groups of us to pass into the courtyard at intervals and line up at the door. it went smoothly and well. kudos to the cool people at the park. rose

inside, the L4OA room was showing finding nemo onscreen and the big room was sporting kaleidoscope color clips on the screen.

.

i thought the DJ who spun for us was great, played some lesser known prince bits smoothly segued, then Grrrl Prty came on in the L4OA room. (pardon me for not knowing the individual band members' names, i think it's my earplugs). we were also able to watch a live projection of the band inside the big room, on the stage screen.

.

the band was great. heavy rap hiphop (sorry) with a solid bass and cool intertwining vocal harmonies strutting their attitude. those gals are talented. people packed into the L4OA room where they were playing songs with cool lyrics, like one was sipping my lemonade, a kind of philosophical look at living life, according to the band. lots of energy and positive messages. people were dancing.

.

except for concert time, neither of the two rooms were ever totally, completely packed with people. the park wasn't filled to capacity and it was a mobile crowd, moving from the L4OA room to the big room and back.

.

for a while there, for those of us watching the show in the big room, we watched the Grrrls' images while finding nemo played in the background behind them. giggle sorry for laughing at nemo, but it was surreal. overall i thought the band was definitely well worth a visit to the park.

.

toward the back of the big room there was a merchandise table with a stash of goodies, i had a quick glance but remind me to check on it again tomorrow and bring a bigger bag.

.

i didn't stay until the very end, left around 12:45? or so? someone else will have to tell us the end of the party story... my impression it was strictly a dance party till the end as the instruments were not in place for a performance in the big room. i could be totally wrong...

.

thanks paisley park and Grrrls. rose what a fun weekend biggrin

That's kinda the boat I'm in, also. My dad and I are staying with relatives in southwest MN (about a 4-hour drive away) while starting to look at house rentals online (hoping to live within 30 miles of MPLS). I'm disabled and can't drive, so my dad would have to take me, and it's too iffy for him. I don't blame him, really.

I just moved to Madison, WI back in June. It's an 11 hour drive from Dayton, OH, and I've made that trip a few times. So to only have a 4 drive from Madison was lovely. But I wish I had waited until today (Saturday) to come too. Not a $40 night.

Don't know who you are, but its good know there's another Prince fam in Madison. We need to start up a lil' social group so we keep each other in the loop. Hit me up at TPvision@yahoo.com or on facebook under Timothy Peyton.

Got to Paisley Park around 11:30pm. Grrrrl Party was performing in the L4OA room, and they were also being shown on the big screen in the big room. They were really good, and I would've paid up to $20 to see them at Paisley Park, but not $40. I read where they just played at 1st Avenue a week ago for $10. Anyway, the Park wasn't at capacity, but there were still a lot of people there. It was crowded, but still enough room to comfortably walk around. The problem was so many people were there to just sit/stand and watch. People were either sitting in all the areas where the raised platforms with seating are, or standing close to the big stage as if Prince might come out and perform. But there were no instruments set up, only the DJ table, so it was obvious this was a no-performance night.

neutral

What surprised me was how many young adults were there, and how many sexy ladies of all ages were there. Prince still pulls them in, and the atmosphere is still one of independant expression and being yourself without being judged. I didn't see any wild outfits, but I did see several Prince garments being worn. It was also very hot and humid inside, although it did cool off a little around 1am. For those that have never been to Paisley, it would've been a good experience since a lot of people were there. But for those of us who've been there before, this was a good night to save your money. $82 for hotel + $40 to get in? That's $122 I need in my bank account. Anyway, they kicked us out around 2:15am and that was it. No new music, unless you paid $20 for the studio tour. All in all, it was good to be back at Paisley again. Just wish I had waited until today (Saturday) like my inner-voice told me.

confused

Prince can get rid of many of these complaints and dissappointments if he would just be more transparent with what's happening at each event. If he wants to charge $40 for a local band and dj, that's his perogative, and people will still come. But let those of us spending that money know what to expect so we don't end up feeling played. I think he doesn't know, forgets, or doesn't care how much money it takes to support his endevors, especially when you count in hotel, food, and travel expenses. But it's only night 1, so we'll see what night 2 has to offer. I've learned over the years to never expect anything from Prince, that way anything is a blessing. May God b with us all.

cool

Those lucky enough to have D'Angelo tickets to his sold out First Ave show Sunday, are reminded that LP Music opens that show (and Questlove spins afterward).

So, maybe think twice before dropping another $40 to see them at the Park tonight, unless you're going for the experience and social aspect of the night (i.e. don't expect a Prince performance again).

LP Music regularly plays Icehouse in Minneapolis for $10 too.
