no more aftershows

Princevault only discerns between tour live performances and one off performances.

But going over the info available there it appears that since 3EG is his (primary) band there have been no aftershows.

Can anybody confirm?

.

FWIW: I do define an aftershow as a (spontaneous, planned at short notice) live performance that takes place after a normal scheduled concert (that is part of a tour), and takes place during the same night as the normal concert.

The aftershow generally takes place in a smaller venue than the regular concert.

Here we must discern between an aftershow and the possibility of multiple regular shows in the same venue, even when a second (or third) shows is announced at short notice.

Aftershows generally had slightly different repertoire to enjoy, when compared to a regular concert.

Brussels - Botanique 2014

30th of may 2014 has three shows in a row, scheduled as pary of a tour.

Right?

If not scheduled but 'spantaneous': what concert was done shortly before these?

There are no more aftershows because there are no more stadium tours. The Hit & Run concept is a bit like the afterhows of old. Aftershows have their downsides as well. In Rotterdam in 1998, I found myself wondering: what do I do? Stay in Ahoy or go to Nighttown? You can't see both, because if you stay until the end of the big show, you miss the aftershow and if you leave early, your ticket was a waste of money. So I decided to stay and enjoyed the big show. Same thing happened later that year in Utrecht. Same dilemma. This time I was with a group of friends who weren't big fans, so I missed another aftershow. The one in Tivoli supposedly was very good, but I finally managed to see him in the Melkweg 13 years later and that time, there was a big show planned the next day, so I don't think it qualifies as an aftershow. A preshow maybe? wink

In '98 I saw the Ahoy show, got the car of the parking lot, drove to NighTTowN and got in as number 936 out of 1000. It was hot as hell in NighTTowN, almost 40 degrees and sweat was just gushing down my back.

Antwerp was scheduled the day before

But there was a period of daylight in between them?

Princevault has this: http://princevault.com/in..._May,_2014 at the Sportpaleis.

And this http://princevault.com/in...ay,_2014-1

So there must have been a 28th of may and perhaps a 29th of may in between these dates.

I was down under at that time so I might not have witnessed these days missing around here.

Assuming that no such days went missing I must conclude that Botanique does not count as aftershow(s) in my book.

Perhaps I can add 'takes place during the same night' to be more clear.

They came close after the two Fillmore shows in SF last year. Prince and the entourage hung out at the Boom Boom Room.... No performance though

So..

If we use the definition at the top of the thread, then was this the last aftershow?

It is the 27 September, 2012 (am) aftershow at the HoB after the show at the United Center (26 September, 2012.

Original aftershows were always rumours at the main concert, when you'd hear from the Controversy

fan club etc that he would be playing, like at Camden after the 88 Lovesexy Wembley Arena Gig, you felt really lucky to get into those gigs, he'd be on stage with people like Ronnie Wood jammin.

I think the real aftershows ended with the London O2 gigs in 2007, where the aftershow/party tickets went onsale for the Indigo club months in advance with the original gig tickets, there was nothing spontaneous. You paid months in advance, but then he might not turn up, I went and just got some dodgy DJ playing in a club, which cost me £30, then had to pay a fortune to get back to central London at 2am after a Prince no-show.

Now he just fits as many gigs as he can get away with in an evening, like he did for last years hit n run UK gigs, when fans were being told to leave so the second set of fans could come in, and you could go out and buy for the second gig at the same venue.

We got aftershows in November 2011 during the Welcome 2 Canada Tour. However, the 3EG Xperience has been devoid of them. I have a feeling that the trend could end tonight in Montreal since 3EG has been there 4 a few days and I'll bet they scouted a venue 4 an aftershow.

I know he's done a few aftershows since, but I think ethos of the aftershow has changed, in the 80s/90s they were off the cuff, fairly spontaneous legendary gigs, more of an unwinding after the main 20,000 seater concert where Prince and the band let their hair down and had fun, to play how/what they fancied to less than a 1000 select lucky fans who managed to get the nod and get in.

I think on the back of that, they are seen as a commercial extension of the main concert, like in 2007 when they were sold months in advance, there was nothing spontaneous in that, the only thing that became spontaneous was whether Prince would actually play or even bother turning up on the night.

Now with the smaller venues he's playing now, its more about putting on several shows in one evening, or splitting the gig to a first and second part and selling entry to the second or even third part, so everyone gets a shorter show, that's what happened in London last year to some of the gigs and to the gig in Manchester where fans were charged £35 at 10:40pm to see the last 30 minutes of the Friday night show from the back of the academy thinking there would be a second gig later which never happened, to the point they were so annoyed and complained they had to be let in to the Saturday night gig for free.

I was lucky enought to see one of those gigs where he turned up.

It was the best gig I have ever seen and there must have been around 1,000 people there to see it

Prince was in touching distance and when he started with Stevie Wonder's Superstitious it was fantastic

I dont think I will ever beat that at the o2 Indigo in London
