many questioned Prince's motives for quickly throwing together a lyrically mediocre song and putting together a "PEACE" rally but anyone who attended last night's show knows this was indeed a PRINCE move for self promotion.

The show sounded horrible with plenty of sound issues and it was clear there was no soundcheck, 3EG looked lost pretty much half the show. Did anyone catch him say where you at DETROIT? 30 minutes into the show? Then he realized his screw up and fix it 10 minutes later.

Prince failed to even introduce the Brown & Grey family, he simpled walked them to the front of the stage in darkness and threw his hand up , he probably didnt know their names.

His performance of "Baltimore" was lack luster and he failed to even introduce Eryn Allen.

There were merch tables full of PRINCE branded merchandise made just for this event both inside and outside the venue with his cartoon face, nothing with any type of motivation quote to leave with. How much of that money will go to Baltimore charities? most likely none.

Then there were the SEXUALLY charged parts:

"All the menfolk call me Prince, all the ladies call me Electric Man

'Cause when I plug in your socket, I do ya like nobody can!" - Prince during "The One" what man with a cause would perform such a tasteless line to sing during a "PEACE" rally with plenty of children in attendance?

"Where all the Nasty Girls at?" The pretend JW wants to get NASTY now at a PEACE rally?

This was clearly a ploy for publicity and self promotion. I dont know what Prince's definition of superstar artists is but there were none on that stage. Miguel barely sang and couldnt hold a note. Why on earth Prince would allow a no name singer like Estelle to sing his biggest hit on stage to a city who hadnt seen him perform in decades ? pretty dumb decision.

Jezus. It's people like you that get a high thinking they are better than others. THIS is what you're pissed about? Kids see/hear much worse things on maintream T.V.

"So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.

"I dont know what Prince's definition of superstar artists is but there were none on that stage"-The show was promoted as having special guests, it did not mention "superstar artists". Special guests are performers outside of his band.

"Prince failed to even introduce the Brown & Grey family, he simpled walked them to the front of the stage in darkness and threw his hand up , he probably didnt know their names."-The fact that he invited the families of Michael Brown and Freddie Grey was a moving gesture alone.

Only cogent thing you wrote was the sexual innuedo of "The Question Of U/The One" but even that song was mild. The lyrics weren't explicit.

Your critiques are petty and you come across as naive. If you're that shook at a Prince concert, don't attend another show.

Yes, and yet you still believe in the Bible?

Check yoself, son! Ding, ding, dong!

The fact that Prince sang very sexual explicit lyrics on TRC

shows that he wants to have his cake and eat it too.

Also great that they played Family Name with those nice Anti-Semitic

rants before the Peace Rally.

As far as the OP is concerned: yes, you might expect that Prince would tone down

the sexual explicit stuff a bit and make it more PG. On the other hands, as the other posters said:

children have heard more at their age, than we had before we were 20.

I listen to the concert and loved it! "U The One" inspired me too! Oh and the "Electric Man" almost made me walk back to Minneapolis were I just moved from and back to my home town Chicago but I decided to take a ice cold shower instead!!!!! That concert inspired me to write several "smokin songs" I've been up and haven't went to bed yet! Wipe out the negativity Prince was on point and jammed!!!!!

actually that was the best part getting bumped up but midway through we wanted to get bumped BACK because the view to what was happening on stage was organized chaos. maybe from a far it would have been as good as the listen for those stuck at home lol it least blurred vision but the sound was horrible.

The reason you know this is an attention seeking phony is because it's pretty common knowledge that Bouncy's shows are actually more sexually charged than Prince's these days, complete with cooch revealing costumes.

But apparently that's fine exposure for her alleged "daughter".

There is no such thing as a free concert. lol

Either the people pay or corporate sponsors pay or the city pays out of their budget. Putting a show together that quickly you normally wouldn't have time for a committee or shareholder meeting.

Even the Farm Aid concert last year wasn't free... ticket prices went up to $175.

FYI Jayz matched all donations made through Tidal.

On a side note,

I liike Jay z and beyonce, i like that they seem very down to earth when it comes

My recommendation is very easy. Just don't attend another Prince show, period. I attended the Detroit show and my expectations were low just because I know Prince is not the performer he once was. I loved the show with the lowered expectations. If I went in expecting to see him at his performance peak of the 91-93 era than I would have been deeply disappointed. He is an old man. For his age he is doing fine. Sorry you didn't like it. Just don't attend another. No big deal. Prince won't miss you and I really don't think anyone else will either.

I had no low expecations las might and he topped them all. No joke. And I've seen him perform countless times starting in 1981.

Jay Z could have paid for everyone then.

Sometimes, even when one has the means to do something that doesn't mean that that'll necessarily be the smart thing to do. There are plenty of other social issues that are just as important as Baltimore, a city he probably doesn't have much direct connection to. Why would one spend a huge amount of money in just one place? Lets be reasonable. You give what you can at the levels appropriate for the circumstance. Getting local residents that do have the direct connection, to invest in their city is a lot smarter strategy IMO, for a number of reasons that I could go into if you're actually interested. I would have advised someone like Jay Z to do exactly the same as he did or something similar. It doesn't benefit him in the long term to have the public brand him more the benefactor than the businessman (trust me, as someone in the philanthropy industry, the last thing any people of wealth wants is yet MORE people asking upon every event for a handout), and it benefits the people of any local community more for them to make donations themselves (even if small and nominal) to the communities in which they live, because it increases their sense of ownership over what those NGO's do with their money. When Prince & Jay Z have moved on from Baltimore, it'll be those local residents who shelled out cash, who will keep those NGO's and the community at large accountable for whatever progress they'll make. Rallying people behind a cause is NOT any less valuable in terms of long term community effects than direct donation. The problem is that we've been desensitized to intangible benefits ("positive externalities" in economic terms) and think that doing good has become synonymous with financial gifting. Both are nice and both have a place, but ignoring one for the sake of the other is massively naive IMO.
