Fellow Prince fans.

Fill me in here. Are we, as a whole, pretending to like these acts, or do we not care? I mean surely, no one can be legitmately excited to see anyone except Prince, right? Especially at Paisley Park. If we are in agreement that we need to fake our excitement, I will go along and feign enthusiasm for acts such as this and Liv Warfield.

thanks.

Depends on the act. I think Liv Warfield is amazing. I'm not familier with King. I saw a couple pretty boring bands at Paisley in March/April. I though Candace Springs was great and I love John Blackwell/Andrew Gouche, etc... Of course folks want to see Prince. Sometimes happens, sometimes doesn't. As for the other acts, if they enthuse you be enthused. I've seen many amazing acts there and some dud ones.

If I lived within an hour or two of Paisley, I'd probably go to most of these, but even the ones with Prince don't seem to be overwhelming.

Very rarely would Prince show up out of the blue and play a full length set with full lyrics sung to songs. You might get Days of Wild with a few vocals and some long jams. That seems to be the standard song for an unexpected performance. Worth $25 to see Prince sort of jam for 10-30 minutes, and not really sing? If I had the money, sure. If things were tight, it might be exciting to see him for 10-30 minutes, but probably not worth the money...

I'd NEVER travel more than two hours for one of these things where a Prince performance is not advertised...it's just not worth it.

A very good question - I just wrote on this in the thread on the Liv show last night. I'm all for being positive/supportive, but I think we're all (fans/staff/Prince) at this point kind of perpetuating a sort of delusion of fun in hopes of something amazing happening (stillwaiting, well put regarding recent shows). King is great, and so is Liv, but neither of these acts are $25 - 50 shows...

If you are in Minneapolis, I highly reccommend checking out this show. I caught KING here in NYC two weeks ago (and two years ago in Central Park) and they are incredible. They're an updated version of the group The Emotions. I've seen KING twice in concert and they never disappoint. I don't post often, but believe me when I tell you this is the one PPAD party you do not want to miss.

Here's one of their singles:

... Presumably Prince rates them as a lover of music himself so he's chosen to host them at his own venue.

You might want to ask yourself whether the band, or Prince care whether you like them or not.

Prince has only done 3 shows at Paisley Park this year. The most recent was only about an hour performance, but they weren't just jamming. The March 30th show was nearly 2 hours. It was unexpected. The April 6th show was cut short due to technical difficulties. $25 was a steal in my opinion.

I saw King and Liv Warfield open for Prince and I think they are both well worth seeing own their own.

If you're not interested in the band, then don't go. Simple.

If I lived even remotely near Paisley, I'd be checking out at least a few of these shows.

I detest Shelby J and am not at all interested in Liv, but I do like King. I think this will be a good gig.

There should be a separate thread in the other forum for King which are a really good group. They do that mystical, alternative soul that I dig. Prince may learn something.

It's not too hard to comprehend..Prince likes these artist, Paisley Park is a great venue with great sound and history...so for $25 bucks for a night of entertainment and live music, what's not to like?

King performed in the Love 4 One Another room. The girls can sing!!! I didn't realize they were from Minneapolis. There were maybe 150-200 people there. After they finished their set, Prince and 3RDEYEGIRL came downstairs and went into the soundstage.

Prince took the stage by himself and went to the keyboard and sang FUNKNROLL. He was dressed in a sparkly black and gold outfit. After that he went to the DJ area and played several new songs, i.e. Clouds, This Could Be Us, FUNKNROLL remix, FIXURLIFEUP remix, the Rita Ora song, a song with Hannah on lead (not AINTTURNINROUND), and another new Prince one that I didn't recognize. He was calling out to the crowd "Paisley Park", "Get on the dance floor". It was cool to see him interacting with the crowd. Hannah, Josh, Donna, and Travis were all dancing. I didn't see Ida.

I would say it was like a dance remix, assuming Josh did it.

'I am so with you, ugh.... wtf, Prince.

I Totally agree with you BOTH.. I've been a Prince fan/follower since 1980... and at NO TIME in his career have I "disliked" what he's been doing and putting out more... It seems like he is only going through the motions at times... and I am sorry.. but this "funk 70's" look is NOT becoming .. I swear some Prince fans are just so "brain washed" or what ever you wanna call it.. that Prince could put out a CD of himself farting and they would say it was the BEST CD EVER... The song CLOUDS to me sounds almost childish.. .. gone are those songs that really made you think.. or had words that tugged at your heart... I think he needs to stop worry so much about all these "other acts".... and 3rd eye girl... and just get back to HIS music.. and doing HIS thing.. OR at the VERY least... release some of that Vault stuff that you wrote 10 / 15 years ago when you really put THOUGHT and TIME into YOUR music... I KNOW this is not EVERYONES "thought".. but I think if Prince fans were REALLY honest with themselves and dug down DEEP into their soul/hearts.. they would kind of agree...

I don't know how to really describe it. It's like head banging music, but you'll find out soon enough of her singing ability (or reference LIVE OUT LOUD).

Does anyone know if the reports about Hannah being the lead vocalist on both WHITECAPS and TICTACTOE are true?

Slightly concerned as these were touted as the two strongest tracks when Prince was on lead vocals.
