In regards to the songs...what exactly would you want to know? I mean, we've told you they are guitar driven, Prince lead on some, Hannah on others. It wasn't like they played the songs over and over, all night long. Can one of you describe in detail PRETZELBODYLOGIC???

You'd be able to if you took notes in the moment - which is what I generally do at a concert. I've never had anyone take my notebook away from me, either.

yea i can describe PRETZELBODYLOGIC, it is NOT a very good song, a buy the numbers mid rock track that you need to blast loud out of the speakers to get anything out of it. Ie a loud beat, but thats just about it!

It's got a really neat chord progression. I love playing it on guitar.

See, you didn't do much better than anyone that went and said what they heard. I'm assuming you've listened to that song more than once, and that's all you can come up with? See my point? You did pretty much hit the nail on the head, though, that about sums up all the tracks I heard. I tend to enjoy the moment for what it is, somene else can takes the notes.

I enjoy the moment. But it takes no time, at all, to jot a word or two (which is what I do).

But then, I'm a former journalist. As such, I'm an old hand at writing while listening. shrug

I know you have all heard Pretzel. I just wanted to see what sort of description you could come up with after hearing a song several times, let alone once or twice. Anyway, I guess you all should be bitching at Jon Bream...he's the one that gets paid to do that sort of thing, and his descriptions weren't much better than any of ours. I'll be going again this Saturday, but will not be standing around with a pen and notepad, no offense Genesia. cool

Rainman

Greetings Org,

I'm flying into Minneapolis tomorrow from Atlanta on a leap of faith that this event will be memorable. I haven't been to Paisley since the "Prince A Celebration" days and I was hoping that someone who has been up there recently for the "After Dark" festivities could give me the 411 on parking (still have to park down the street or have they expanded the parking lot) and what time they might open the doors to let everyone in. Any and all information is welcome. Thanks!

They have been allowing people to park in Paisley Park's parking lot. There hasn't been a need for overflow lately. Doors usually open at 9:30pm.

I will say this is the most they have promoted an event at Paisley Park in quite some time. They have been tweeting about it since monday. They also haven't listed an end time which they have for previous PPAD events.

Hey guys, I'm 17 and I was gonna go tonight with a friend but my parents don't like me staying out too late. I've been to a bunch of paisley park after darks with my sister and we usually didn't get home until somewhere in the AM. And this one has a different discription (listening party) so I was wondering if anyone had any Idea how late it might go because I know prince only likes to come out when it's late and likes to make us wait foreveeeer. And I really don't wanna get grounded or waste 25$.
Thanks!

Not really a listening party tonight. Got there a little after 10 and Marcus Anderson was playing in NPG room. Doors opened up for the soundstage and everyone entered. Prince's Wow and Hannah's turnaround played over the PA. Then 3rdeyegirl and Prince played. My highlights were Dorothy Parker and Nothing Compares 2 U. Then Kandace Springs played a set in the NPG room. Then back to the soundstage where Prince djed for a little bit. Highlights were We Could Be and Funk and Roll ( dance remix). Beyond that a lot of standing (some dancing) . I had to leave at two so I am not for sure if anything else exciting happened. Time for sleep and church soon. Goodnight!

Plectrumelectrum

Let's Go Crazy

Take Me With U

Raspberry Beret

U Got The Look

Musicology

The Ballad of Dorothy Parker

Nothing Compares 2 U

Kiss

Kandace Springs did one of her songs in the middle of Prince's set. Cassandra and Marcus played on some of the songs. After Kiss, she played for about 45 minutes in the Love 4 One Another room. Prince played in the soundstage area. Several new songs were played by Joshua and Prince DJing. Wow, This Could Be Us, The Gold Standard, Hannah song (don't know the name of it), and The Breakdown. There were a couple more, but don't know the titles and they seemed to be Prince without 3RDEYEGIRL. They gave away posters, either the Essence Fest poster or the Mojo magazine cover picture.

maybe this was all on livestream but just my recollections....First we were in the smaller room listening to funky covers courtesy of Marcus, John Blackwell and funkky bass. Oz the Great and then an adorable nature film were playing on the walls. Then the big room opened up, and Wow was being played, followed by a song with Hannah on vocals. Then Princ3 and 3rdeyegirl hit the stage, played plectrum electrum. would u believe He asked again "what is plectrumelectrum?" Lets go crazy, Then they played a mostly instrumental version of take me with you as prince encouraged the audience to sing the words. Also then Musicology, and prince and marcus taught us "this is a saxophone" then he pointed at Hannah playing..."that is a drum". Also U got the Look, Ballad of Dorothy Parker......................................................Kandasaurus slayz really does sing and play the keys real, real good. She sang the first time ever i saw your face, a song which had moved me much less in former versions, but her rendition brought me to tears, seriously -- gorgeous voice..................................Then prince announced we were to move back into the small room to listen to some of KAndy's original music, after which we would return here later, but before we go, he just wanted to say "::::kiss guitar lick:::::" and they played kiss and prince did all the moves from the video too.............................................................................................Kandace is a pro. She began and ended with Love got in the way, also playing a song about forbidden fruit and other really cool songs. John Blackwell is amazing as ever on the drums...................................................................................................Then the listening dance party was on -- We'd be listening to Nasty girl and then it would morph into a part of one of the new songs, and then back to nasty girl, etc. So embarassed that i'm almost descriptionless about the song details, but a couple of them reminded me of classic 80sish funkiness, and everything i heard i would buy. more of this could be us was played than i had heard before. All the new lyrics i heard were really intriguing and deep........................................i'm used to listening to speakers that are much smaller than me, so it was great to hear so many prince classics in that big room -- loose!, the work pt. 1, strange but true, extralovable, some unfamiliar cool version of facedown, the greatest romance, 17 days, glamorous life, i feel for you, breakfast can wait, funknroll, black sweat, final song was the breakdown then lights on.................................................................................does anyone know that vintage song played about cooking shoes or something, that was cute! and thanks for playin some james brown!..............................................i had guessed the merch would be some excess mugs they were trying to move, but actually we had a choice of 2 very lovely prince posters. There were also 3rdeyegirl posters and some cute shirts.....................................princeasaurus rulz!

one of the million details i left out -- as they were playing Kiss, Prince said to us, "go on, go in that other room now, we're just playing 'walk in music' and of course everyone stayed put, dancin and laughin.................Cassandra O'Neal was amazing, too. a lot of great dancers tonight, i may be inspired to learn to dance now. a zillion thank yous!
