Prince talked about this years ago, he said Glastonbury use his name to try and sell tickets. I wonder if Eavis was specifically talking about this year.

I'd rather he didn't do it, to be honest. It's the most boring, middle class, bourgeois festival there is, and I should know, I've played there twice.

The thing is, by the time the acts get announced, the tickets are long since sold out. So the people who see the headline acts aren't fans. Prince would have to play a straight hits set to interest that crowd, and that's just boring.

i agree with most of your points casey..but the huge media attention this festival gets..and tv coverage...its probably the biggest showcase a music act can have now...certainly in the uk...i think he would be good for him to be seen by a mass audience...introduce him to a new generation and remind older ones just how important and talented he is....its a missed chance again i think with the 30th anniversery of purple rain this month....but thats prince for you... smile

In sharp contrast with the sets Prince currently plays, which consist of... yeah, you guessed it.

but he has played tours with a lot of obscure stuff like "the ultimate live tour" in 1995 where i think he played next to no big hits and the "one nite alone" tour in 2002...i really dont understand what you would have him play in big arenas bart ?..people come to see him play his well known songs...if i ever get the chance to go and see ray davies...i want to hear the well known kinks songs...i dont want to really hear his solo stuff..

.

just on the 1995 no hits tour in glasgow that i saw...i was personally delighted with the concert because he played a lot of album tracks and unreleased stuff at that point and i am a big fan...but a lot of the casual fans were not happy...he cant win.

Bollocks. The show I saw at Shep Bush contained, amongst others :

Pretzelbodylogic
Funk N Roll
PlectrumElectrum

FixUrLifeUp

Marz

Colonized Mind

Chaos & Disorder
Breakfast Can Wait

Cause & Effect

Endorphinmachine

Dreamer

Screwdriver

Bambi

I Like It There

Something In The Water

Guitar

None of those are songs you would see in a "hits show". Those are for fans.

Geez. How dare a festival use an artist's name to sell tickets?!? How could they? But in the case of Glastonbury, that claim is ridiculous, since it doesn't need any artist name to sell out... as, like you say, it's long sold out before headline artists are announced. Just another case of Prince being an anal dick.

Prince Set For Surprise Appearance At Glastonbury?

Prince fans may have been disappointed that the pop maestro hasn't been added to the official bill at the Glastonbury Festival - but they may still be in luck.

The Sun reports that the prolific pop star is still in talks with the organisers - and wants to play a surprise set at the enormous event this weekend coming.

A source told the paper: "Prince wants to show up somewhere as a surprise. He has spent so much time in the UK lately, he'd love to do an impromptu set."

Psssh! All you did was actually see Prince in concert. You think that seriously compares to the opinion of a bootlegger that has a 20-year one-sided running feud with a man he's never met?

C'mon!

He was. It was in response to a question from Henry Holland:

www.theguardian.com/music...hrys-kelis

If he ever agrees to play and the BBC can convince him to allow the performance to be screened we could finally get that pro shot present day concert we've been missing.

Whatever your thoughts on the Glasto crowd they are up for it in a big way - even in the mud (as we'll prob see this weekend). Prince has been touted for so long now that should it ever happen I reckon the atmosphere will be electric.

I loved that festival when I used to go, I think with all it's ley line mysticism, charity endeavours and leftfield input there's nothing else like it on the planet.

You really should read the main story. Michael Eavis flat out says that Prince is not coming. And that rumours about his appearance killed the deal. It's people like you, spreading rumours and speculating every year, who make him not come.

The simple fact that you had to go back six months to a bunch of one-off gigs instead of pointing to the ACTUAL TOUR he just finished, shows me I am right, and you're not. Back then he was promoting a 3EG album (which of course never appeared), and his recent interview and tour shows Prince has moved on.

Try 4 months. Both tours were the Hit & Run Tour. Parts 1 & 2.

Part 2 was arenas. Obviously you have to play hits in arenas. That's how it goes.

He did play Plectrum Electrum, Funknroll and Fixurlifeup in the two concerts I attended last month, as well as screwdriver. And I think he also played Pretzelbodylogic in some other shows. Funknroll was one of the highlights of one the nights, the reaction was amazing. Believe it or not, we were having fun...

having seen about 20 shows or something this year and one earlier this month, being one of hs most recent, or most current shows, having electric intercourse, what's my name, funknroll, stratus, the ryde/butterface, plecrum electrum, something in the water, guitar, cool and under the cherry moon, none of which i would consider "straight hits", what point are you trying to make exactly?

when was the last time you actually attended a prince concert in the flesh?

i've been to well over 100 shows, including some of the rarest, hard to get into and imtimate shows, but even at the most current shows, and even at the most intimate shows, he mixes up lesser known material like the love we make at cafe de paris or shades of umber at ronnie scotts, or train in vaint at kings place or kokos. it just sounds like you really don't know what you are talking about and you haven't actually attended many prince gigs recently. how many times have you seen prince this year for example, to give an idea of your experience of attending current shows?

NOTE - i've seen him more than just once this month, i was just relating to one gig. i say him play a case of u at another gig for example, another track that doesn't fit into "straight hits"

Am I the only one who thinks Glasto would be perfect for Prince? I'm really dissapointed that he isn't headlining. Sure, I wouldn't get to go but at least it'd be great live tv exposure like we NEVER see from him. The wider world needs to understand what he does now. Yes - he'd be seen by many as a novelty booking beforehand but the Glasto crowd would rise to the occasion and he'd be awesome as usual and prove that he isn't a novelty act AT ALL playing hits, covers and rare stuff.
