Thank God, I've got nothing left in the tank. I'm knackered.
He puts me to shame.
If anyone gets in, have a great time. |

He's been advertising this film quite heavily on twitter. Is he related to the film in any way (producer or something) or does he just like it? |

I was there. Absolutely phenomenal, maybe the best P gig I've ever seen (but I've said that before, the morning after...)
Also played, but not on that list:
Raspberry Beret
Guitar
Butterface |

One of the ever-shrinking perks of being a music journalist. (I wrote a glowing review of the Electric Ballroom for The Quietus and did a thing on Radio 4's Today programme, so P's people invited me as a thank-you, I guess. Before you think I'm the luckiest bastard alive, I didn't manage to guest-list it into any of the other shows, and I queued up outside Koko and paid my £70 like everyone else...) |

Have to ask...was it you the review of Batman for Melody Maker in '89? I remember being incensed by that at the time, although, with hindsight, I think I was in the wrong!!!

Agreed. Imagine if a certain bore (no name needed here...) had gone to this show..........
(p.s.- 'Everything' is one of my favourite music books- I lost my copy ages ago in reshuffles at my parents house and EVERY time I go to visit I hunt for it, to no avail.....) |

From Simon's quietus review, I love his mate's quote that "Prince is like Spider-Man or something. " |

So you need to see way more to shows in the correct perspective.
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

Nope. I did review various Prince records and concerts for MM, but that particular one wasn't me. |

It's a twelve-bar blues number with comedy lyrics along the lines of "I love everything about her... but her face (butterface)". At the end he said "I just needed to get that out of my system." I guess it's new, cos I can't find any mention of it on any "every Prince song ever" list and I can't find any Google evidence of it being a cover. If anyone knows better, let me know... |

I noticed that Bryan Ferry, who had been looking sort of 'amused' on the balcony, had gone after about half an hour (but it was very late and he's an old man). I saw Miranda Richardson behind me in the standing bit but lost sight of her during the show. As for the other celebs, no idea - I only knew they'd been there when I read about it the next day. The film industry people were just awful awful awful, though. Coked up and brimming with an arrogant sense of entitlement, pushing people aside and saying things like "We're here to celebrate MY film..." |

Definitely no "Let's Go Crazy", or "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man" for that matter, which surprised me because they've both been regulars lately. But he DID play "Kiss". I wrote up the setlist for Setlist.fm here http://www.setlist.fm/set...0221d.html (there may be something I missed but that's as close to definitive as I could get). |

That sounds absolutely horrendous. I think I'd take being down at the front at an Arena surrounded by fans over that really. I wonder how people live their lifes actually- imagine being s wrapped up in your own London-centric, self-congratularly, insular world that you'd go to an intimate Prince show and take it for granted. They must get so little out of things like music that means so much to me that I genuinely pity them. |
