Well since they're grammy winners post-Prince, and that award is for their contributions, musically, to the film and music industry, I'd say they must be doing something right. Life goes on after the Revolution.

thanks for posting, BUT......... what are you saying: no no no!

Wendy & Lisa were great -- made beautiful music, even when they left Prince,

Their debut album and Fruit At The Bottom were excellent. Eroica had some moments as well.

After then you are right, just like Prince they used to be brilliant. In the 1980's... cool

Wendy & Lisa.......... music woot!

Gonna preface this by saying I'm a huge fan of Prince, have been since 1982. And I'm sure this has been debated here before, but, in my opinion, the only Prince records that hold up over the years are the ones heavily influenced or co-written by Wendy & Lisa. Most everything else sounds pretty dated, reminiscent of trends of the day. He was at his best when he was open to the psychedelia, bubble-gum pop, and lush melodies they GENEROUSLY shared. Good for them... long overdue... and CONGRATS!

Dirty Mind... had a heavy new wave bent that was around for a couple years at least.

1999... same sound and Lisa's vibe starts to kick in here anyway.

Controversy... just a so-so record imo, one could mistake for a Cameo or Midnight Star album.

SOTT... has W&L's sound ALL over it -- credited or not.

LoveSexy... sounds hella corny today, sorry but it does.

Has Wendy and Lisa's music held up over time? ld think that their own body of work would be the masterpieces you claim they were responsible for with Prince but it is not.

On another note, congrats to them! I do respect them as very talented musicians.

Their albums has watered down Prince cliches all over the place. When Prince used them, he atleast used their skills right. He was the better allround problem solver, they were great tools however. I'm not one of those saying that PRince was that kind of genius that would just create monster hits in a vacum.

However his skill was using his abilities as a swamp, producer and arranger. He knew what fit together. He'd cut and paste like a sample based producer with his mind, guitar and drumset instead. After I've analyzing his way of working, this is the most obvious skill of his. Being able to fit different parts together. Fitting different styles, different instruments etc. Yeah they did help arrange some of his music. And I'll give them credit for how they influenced his style.

Personally I don't think the New Wave inspired albums sounds any more dated than his obvious 80s releases. I love all of his 80s albums, but if you give these albums to someone with no clue about music history, atleast they'll put everything from 1999-batman in the 80s box. I really don't understand how it's possible for people to not think that maybe Prince also learned something new after he hit 20 years old. To think that he didn't mature as a musician from 20-30 years old would be weird. He would do that even without Wendy & Lisa. He would learn a bunch of new stuff by absorbing everything he learned by listening to the radio, mtv, working with David Z in the studio etc...

Anyone he chose to work with on his hey days would be crowned genuises if they had their tambourine played in one of his songs. People would claim he wouldn't be shit without that freakin tambourine. Seriously. I personally know a few producers that are changing music both in the underground and the mainstream without the help from a band of "genuises" and they're without being mean NOT on Prince level. If Prince was young today with an MPC, a bass guitar, his voice and a Microkorg, I'm sure he'd kill most of everything out there right now.

I agree to that, even though I probably helped bringing it down. Their achievement here has nothing to do with their past with Prince. That I'm sorry for!

Congrats to these talented women!

Oh...u one of them, huh?

It wasn't that Prince used new wave...It's how he merged it with funk/R&B that made it sound new and exciting...Black artists were not messing with new wave sounds back then...After that, everyone from Cameo to Rick James started to follow P's sound...So yeah...that was a new sound....Not just the total "white" New Wave sound of the Cars and Gary. N. that influenced Prince to try something new and merge it with his other influences....

In terms of SOTT, the only Wendy & Lisa stamp "was" "Strange Relationship"...And if you know the story behind that, he did the track and gave it to them to finish...But after he let the girls go he scrubbed the track of their contributions (the sitar, Middle Eastern percussion and heavy Lin drums) and what u hear now is all Prince....

The rest of the SOTT album beyond "Beautiful Night" is all Prince...

I get it...This place can be divided...But I'm not going to let some of y'all start playing revisionist history on a Prince site no less...When I hear people even start to give Lisa partial credit for 1999, I can see what's going on....lol

All this to say, I'm glad the girls r getting their props for theit TV/Film work...

But that shit u trying to sale? It's real side-eye worthy....In another word? Bullshit...

Nah...let's not go all straw man....Let's keep this on the topic at hand that you decided to throw out there.....

Your ass just tried to dismiss one of Prince's most acclaimed works (Dirty Mind); give partial credit to Lisa for 1999, and then make it seem like W&L were playing puppet master on SOTT...

And you did so in a thread that was meant to give props to W&L for their own accomplishments...A thread that was meant to give the girls the props they deserved....

Of course W&L helped open P's mind up to new sounds....But as usual, the W&L contingent take it to obsessive heights and start typing over-the-top shit meant to rattle the cage of Prince fans on a site dedicated to Prince....

The only thing I'm going to deal with is the bullshit u trying to sale, homie....Get the fuck on with this shit...lol

And again, congrats to the girls.....

Congrats Wendy and Lisa cool

I like them too and big fan of theirs but Prince would STILL have a career with or without them. Even they said themselves they helped P but they DIDNT made him as I followed the girls work and interivews over the last 22 years. W&L influenced Prince and exposed him into different genres like classical and indie rock and the Beatles. But he also got his influences from Jimi Hendryx(its funny how some W&L fans failed to mention his bigger influence from fashion to music to the way he played his guitar), James Brown, Joni Mitchell, Rick James (shoot even Rick bitched about how Prince copied his performance and in return Rick James copied Prince style when during the Glow era ), Sly and the Family Stone, Duran Duran (that is why he made the Family hoped to get Duran Duran fans onboard to like them), and also other artists from outside his musicial circle.

its doesnt take a rocket science to notice this if any P fan followed him closely or listened to the material from 1978 to at least after the Revolution disabanded.
