. . Why should they reduce the fee though? If the promoter hasnt chosen a large enough venue to balance the costs its down to them the artist isnt going to take less because of something someone else hasnt thought through. If you were a Plumber would you do the same work for 2 different people and take less from the 2nd person? If they turned him down they would have known there would have been another promoter looking to take him off their hands, if your given the chance to put on a Prince show you take it doesnt happen often. . Maybe the promoter could have cut their profits slightly if anything would have made more sense but the music industry is rife with Greed.

^^Well. Then the question is, why haven't they booked something bigger?? A) the promoter doesn't think Prince would sell that many tickets, then Prince would have to reduce his fee, B) Prince requested to be in an intimate venue, then Prince also would have to reduce his fee or C) they couldn't book a big venue in such short notice, then Prince should rethink his booking strategies and not take it out on the fans. I don't really see any scenario where Prince is not, at least partly, to blame. Of course the promoter could also reduce his profit, but why should he... I mean, he is taking the major risk. Prince walks away with his guarantee no matter the outcome. But whatever, obviously there is greed involved... all around.

I don't think that Prince really has a problem with Germany. It's just that particularly in France, Belgium and in the UK, people seem to have a completely different habit when it comes to Prince and his habit to set up shows at very short notice. It might be a cultural thing, it might be due to him having performed there much more often than in Germany. I remember vividly that he performed in a stadium in Utrecht during the SOTT-tour and Mojo-concerts in the Netherlands had to add quite a few extra-dates due to public demand. Living in the triangle between Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, I know for sure that once you cross the border to either country, you'll find yourself confronted with different mindsets, believe it or not.
There's a certain loseness attached to the Dutch and some belgian people, that seems just so strange for Germans. Maybe I'm completely off the rails with this assumption, but since Prince is very much "from the guts", it might as well explain, why he didn't turn up regularly in Germany within the last, let's say, 20 years.
He knows that he has a very colorful und enthusiastic following in B, NL, F and the UK. If I was him, I would love to perform there moreoften myself.
There's a wonderful musicians and songwriter from Switzerland, named Stephan Eicher. He did sell enormous amounts of records in his homeland and Belgium, and especially in France. But even though he sings in German as well, it just never happened for him in Germany. At least in his case, that is certainly due to a hugely different mentality in Germany.
Now that should not be an excuse for those skyhigh ticket-prices for Prince in Berlin. But then again, Barbara Streisand charged 750 Euros per ticket for her Berlin-show. And it did work for her.
Whether or not Prince will turn up in Berlin on Tuesday, it will not change the attitude of Germans towards him. Hes is being seen as a star, as the PR-guy. But he did do so much more that possibly only the real die-hard-fans noticed. Without wanting to be insulting, to me Germany always loved functionality. Be it in food, fun or music appreciation. Well, Prince is anything but functional. He can deliver wonderful shows, but he can also be a complete boredom. I guess that Prince and the Germans won't match so soon.
Anyway, good luck to all those who bought tickets for the Berlin-show. Might the greedy get what they want and might the hungry get what their souls are longing for.

Sorry Nonesuch, but you're judgement of Germans in general is full of clichées but hey, maybe that's the way how you judge other people.
I have seen Prince live in 1990 in the Waldbühne in Berlin and 2010 again there. 4 years ago I paid 84 € which was completely ok. Can't remember much of the 1990 show, but in 2010 it was fantastic, Prince played for 2,5 hours and the audience was happily partying along.
On Monday a friend told me about ticket for this Berlin show going on sale the next day. Although she's not a Prince fan, she wanted to join me. So the next day we were on the phone and in front of our computers. When it turned 12 and the ticket prices were revealed..........
What a massive shock! These prices are ridiculous, greedy and not acceptable. I am not working at the moment but was still prepared to pay something like 130 € (and go on a bread & water diet for the next 3 months) but 300??????? The fact that some hours later, when they saw that no one bought tickets, added some for 188 € does not help at all.
The damage is done, I am deeply disappointed by this behaviour towards fans in Germany. Even if I would get a ticket for free now, I would probably not be able to enjoy that show anymore. Very sad that me being a fan for 30 years am now faced with an ugly gesture like this. Luckily there are still plenty of good artists who understand that you do not p... off your fans with greedy behaviour like this.

Friday afternoon, 5.15 pm over here. In less than three hours box-offices will close for today. With only roughly four days to go before show time, it can probably now be said that the almost everything surrounding the show had been a huge flop. There are two options: a) the show will get cancelled on Monday, June 2 or ticket prices will drastically be reduced by then.

Well, what else can we say? Personally, I'm disgusted at this whole situation. On Monday before knowing the prices of the tickets I was super excited, prepared to go no matter what. I would go, even though I'm in the middle of my exam session and I could fail the whole semester just for this one show. But still, I would risk, because that's how I love and admire Prince. But with those prices... I guess I'll have to wait for another one though I'm craving to see the man...

If it hasn't been cancelled until then i will go by bus (11 EUR) to Berlin and totally rely on my good buddy by the name of "Coincidence."
There's always a way or another to kinda sneak in, at least in my experience
No risk, no fun. | |

It's always nice to see young fans with such big enthusiasm. But your education is much more important than this concert, please believe me! You'll sure have another chance to see him. [Edited 5/30/14 9:08am]

I guess they're not able to reduce the prices anymore, once a couple of fools have paid the actual prices. Otherwise they would have to refund them... So the gig will get cancelled, because i can't imagine it to take place in front of a couple of hundred people. Sad.

Prince will surely make music live and in the studio until his last breath, so normally you should still have a chance to see him him in the next few years somewhere somewhen under better conditions

Riiiiight.... Tix for Berlin apparently 2-for-1 now. . https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=634337446649983 . "Big sale! Bargains! Tickets for the Berlin show are now 2 for the price of 1. Still they are more expensive than in other countries during this tour."

Does anyone actually think they will cancel the show?
90€ for a ticket now if it's two for one and flights are quite reasonable. Could use a few days in Berlin.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Strange thing is, the 2-for-1 is only available through the affiliate link.If you go to the ticket sale page through the front page of Eventim.de, the regular prices are still shown with no discount options...?!

I am officially pissed. Bought my ticket just the day before yesterday for 188, and now I see it could have been 2 tickets for the same price. Who is responsible for this amateur business behaviour? Seems to me german concert promoters are not capable of planning flexibly. What an unfair shit is this? Any lawyers in here? Can we sue them?

Well, I'm not going anyway, it's too late to arrange everything... But I have just made my friend go crazy about Prince and right now she's becoming a real fan and I can share my love for P. with someone close to me! Ain't that amazing?! <3

If you look at the plan at the eventim page most tickets are sold. The capacitiy will be near 70-75 %. So the concert will be taken place.
It is out of the question that the prices are too high. Im travelling from Frankfurt to Berlin. Hotel and Train costs are added. But i´m crazy. Not everyone is crazy like me.
I have question to the ogers who go to the concert. What do you do with your smartphone? According to the ticket it is forbidden to take your smartphone with you in to he concert. Any ideas or experiences? Thanks.

@ Alex: My ticket just says "No photos or videos". It doesnt say "No smartphones". So I dont think you have to worry. How should that be controlled?
@ All: I am so pissed of with the prices. I bought two tix for nearly € 600 on tuesday last week. First they have dropped the price by 50%, then they came up with the "2 for 1" thing.
As a result there will be people standing with me, which paid € 190 for two tickets. This is € 400 less!!!!!
I cant say how pissed off I am

Can you sue a shop for selling you a pair of jeans for £50 one day, when they were £100 the day before? No one forced you to buy the tickets!

I'm selling 2 tickets in the marketplace section, please have a look if interested. [Edited 6/2/14 3:10am]
