Don't really understand the promoter's strategy behind this. Why not play Waldbuhne or O2, so 15-20 000 venues? With ticket prices like in Vienna I think there would be a good chance of selling maybe not all, but most of the tickets. Meanwhile we have like what, 200 tix sold? Maybe including standing something around 500 tix. And a lot of frustrated fans from not only Germany.

fnksoul said: I think the prices will have been set by a promoter rather than Princes guys, . Is this the one where its a smaller venue? The promoter would have probably been given a fee for Prince which he will get as a flat rate so maybe they had to sell at a price to reflect Prince's fee, plus their profit and additional costs, with it being the smaller venue it would have meant higher prices I'd imagine. The artist has control. They have ultimate responsibility. They state their fee and agree the venue. .

I don´t really get what this crying over the price is about. If you live in Germany you save money on hotels and flights. So 300 is as expensive as travelling to Amsterdam, Montreux or else plus booking a hotel. Get it. Times are changing audience is getting older. You are either willing to pay for a certain service of a good seat or Golden Circle or you are not. I am willing to pay such prices for not having to queue all day in the sun. I´m getting older like everybody else is. Smaller venues, better sound more intimacy. I LOVE IT just the same as big venues. BUT I DO HOPE FOR A BETTER SET LIST. Not so many hits - more special - more new songs.

. My point was more about the prices, yeah Prince's management might have had a bit of say bu the promoter has alot of control as they do most of the planning aslong as the artists is being paid their fee. If the options were limited for venues then could be why they went with a smaller venue, and explains the increase in prices once they factor in evrything else. . . I work in event management and when we do concerts we enquire with the agent, are given the fee for their service, plus a Ryder of things they require which is an additional cost, then travel expenses on top. We source the venue, AV prices and everything else and we base the ticket prices on covering everything in that plus our profit.

I also agree with only the last sentence, the rest is BS!

...I'm also not sure what 'willing to pay these prices so i don't have to queue' means at all!
If tickets were a reasonable price, why would that mean you had to queue all day in the sun?! If you have a ticket you can turn up two seconds before he goes on stage if you like!

I have three tickets that I cannot use!! Was going to go to Berlin but got tickets to Paris and the cost of travel plus the cost of the ticket and accommodation is too much for this graduate student. I'll send my tickets to who ever wants them at the best prices i can get, whatever that might be. Right now I am out over 900 euro (what is that, $1300??) and i am afraid i won't see any of it. someone send me an email and make me an offer...! “I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.” Mother Teresa

No. Germany isn't such a small country. I live in Cologne, that's about 600 km to travel to Berlin. So I need a hotel after the concert. Amsterdam is a lot closer (260 km), I can easily drive home after the concert. And there are fans in germany with a even longer travel distance. [Edited 5/28/14 13:10pm]

Well I live near Cologne. If I were you I would drive there and sleep in the car. I did that many many times after P concerts. No big deal. I am also not bragging and I am not rich. I am only counting what I have paid for tickets, plus hotel, plus petrol, food in the past.

300 EUR or 188 EUR it doesn't matter, it's outrageous either way.
The "If you can't afford it, there's always one who can" mentality that often disguises as "You pay what it is worth to you" is one reason why this world is going down the toilet, see issues like gentrification etc.
And of course just because you live in germany doesn't equal no costs for travel or hotel..what an absurd idea?!
Oh and i've worked long enough in the music business to know it's not the artists fault alone, it's not the promoters fault alone, it's not german entertainment tax alone, it's ALL OF THEM.
Hint: If any other (super)star can do it for 50 EUR/ticket in germany, Prince can too.

Wow! You really have chosen the right name. Best of luck selling those tickets for a price that will get you your investment back.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Exactly. Anyone thinking the artist has no control over ticket prices is really deluding themselves.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Not really. I paid 160 for the flight to Amsterdam, 100 for the ticket and 90 for 3 nights in a hotel. If you live in Berlin you pay almost the same for a 2 - 3 hour concert. And if you live in Germany, but not in Berlin, you pay a lot more.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Did some research and for 300 EUR i could get a two way flight from Hamburg to Vienna, 2 nights hotel AND the concert ticket.Which would equal almost 3 days holiday and much more convenient than sleeping in a car for one night, still having petrol expenses and probably bad sleep just because someone (promoter, Tempodrom,Prince, whoever) wants to squeeze as much $$$ as possible from people.
Btw, i think the Tempodroms promo text saying "exclusive, intimate club concert" is ridiculous - what's "intimate" about a 3500 capacity concert and why is it "exclusive" other than it's the only Germany concert (so far) ? I mean it's not like he's guaranteed to play only bootlegs and have the Revolution reunited on stage.

. . I'm speaking from working in the Industry, they might have an input on prices, but the promoter has to factor in the costs of the venue, AV hire, security, the artists travel expenses and everything else, this Ultimatley decides the price of the tickets that includes the promoters profit as well as the artists fee! The Artists cant say you have to charge £70 per ticket if that leaves the promoter at a loss when using a venue that holds so few people can they? [Edited 5/29/14 0:45am]
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't really know the what exactly are the factors that make the price, but I really think that even if one could easily afford it, you shouldn't pay it. Sorry, but that's just fucking ridiculous for something that's not him playing in your own living room. Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

mkay... today there are almost four complete blocks (297 Euros) sold. Sharp cut. The first four and five rows. Best places. Yesterday, there have been just a few tix sold in these blocks.
So expect to see sweepstakes on the radio for the weekend and maybe some industry people. Or does anyone think a bowling club is going on a trip?
I certainly don't like getting around a cancellation or an empty location that way.
Really, I happen to be in Berlin on that day by chance. But I won't go.

There are choices to make and prices to pay for any decision in life. It´s up to you to decide what things are worth to you. However I KNOW what I am getting. Even if there was one bad concert in Cologne. So what. Shit happens. He is not a machine, but an eccentric artist. Sometimes I hate him - most of the times I love him to the 9`s. And if he is bad I´ll forgive him by and by. I had thought that this was a fan org. Sometimes I wonder why people are so negative. He gives us his heart and we give him just paper (money). Money comes and goes. Why not spend it on the things you love.

No! But the artist could reduce his guaranteed fee. But if he doesn't and charges the same big money as for a show in a big venue, that obviously when you add in all the other costs plus the profit of the promoter, it ends up at 300 €. So ultimately it is the artists fault. And an artist could be commited to have reasonable prices, as several artists have been before and take an interest in what the tickets ultimately cost. But if they only care about what they make, regardless of the consequences, then obviously a promoter has free reign.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Oh yes... "fans" like you are the reason why artists get away with chargin the outragous prices they do. And they will always try to top themselves, because a fool who will pay that is born every day.

Exactly! What i can`t understand is, that he performs in the biggest european country only one small gig and that`s it... Germany is the only country in europe right now without a economy crisis and the lowest unemployment rate...People can spend some money here, but apparently they don`t wanna spend that much...
