ok, so that was weird!. When asked by many purple headz what I though my response was summed up as a 'meh' ! that had more to do with me taking my kids & watching them being understandably bored during the lonnnnnng keyboard / dj sets. So now that I have time to reflect I am actually blown away!. Yes i do feel that the DJ / keyboard thing went on for a bit too long but christ the highlights..The ride, Nohing compares, do me baby, THE BASS PLAYING !, that cover towards the end, screw driver, HOT THING!..simply wow. Again it just highlights what a friggin genius he is..2 consecutive nights = 2 different shows. I am sinply in awe & feel so lucky to be seeing him again in Leeds1

Also, yet again met so many lovely purple people.

Went to both nights in Manchester (Arena) and the Friday night in Feb, at The Academy. All were worth every penny. It's hard to say which was the best as they were all AMAZING for different reasons. Intimate venue of the Acedemy and the less heard live tracks was special, flow of the setlist on Friday was great (LGC start, PR finish) and the variety and lenght of Saturday night.

The set lists have spoilt us all (hardcore and casual), great mix of stuff. P's guitar playing is sensational - as was the dirty funky bass he dropped on 777-9311, on Sat, 3rdEyeGirl are getting tighter and, in my opinion, are a damn fine band.

Great to hear Paisley Park, interesting that P added a few vocals to it on Saturday night after Friday; where Marissa can hold the notes when she let's go but isn't too audible when singing more softly.

He certainly enjoyed himself both nights, but particularly Saturday. As with the gigs at The Acedemy in Feb, the second night seems to get the heads up as the better of the two and both were certainly longer sets. I hope he gives everyone going to the single night gigs as much as Saturday's Manchester crowd. Being the perfectionsit that he is he obviously tweaks the sound after night one in a venue, bollocks his guitar techs and can then relax more on the following night of a run of two.

Would loved him to have played Electric Intercourse, but am not grumbling - with a catalogue the size of P's there's alaways going to be something we all would like to hear/see him play and don't get our wishes.

Crowd both nights was great, from where I was (205 on Fri, 114 on Sat). He blew the hardcore and the casual away. Great mix of ages at each night - sat next to a 10 year old and his Dad on Sat, lots of other youngsters and plenty of folk in their 60s or more. Great to so how much of a draw and a wide ranging audience P really has.

The people who thought he said motherfucker are wrong - it's motherfunker, but it really does sound like what peeps thought they heard.

The Isely Brothers cover at the end was sensational. I hope for those attending the coming gigs he does that again - it went down a storm.

Everyone who is going to Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow or over in Holland - you're in for a treat. Enjoy it

After being at the 1st Manchester night back in Feb and seeing how the 2nd eclipsed, we choose the 2nd night this time and I think that was probably the best decision! Down a couple of rows from the front, it was simply amazing! I think what he's doing is a great mix of arena style and the more intiment of Hit N Run Pt 1!

Loved "You mind if I play the blues?"

What's the name of the song where he continually named checked Manchester? Finishing the each

lines with Manchester....

That was sultry!

Bring on Birmingham....Despite the gap, I'm sure it will be a step up on it's first night too!

I tired to stop myself From singing Funknroll , didn't want people to look at me funny... But when they played it live during the concert a young girl in her late teens who was there with her dad kept shouting 'OH my god, and I'm not too surprised, for me it was one if the highlights, together with Controversy and Kiss (love the new arrangement). And I think it was the first time I heard 1999 live, believe it or not!
On the negative side, I've had enough with drunk people! Apart from the fight and a freak who shouted abuse to everyone on his way (dealt with brilliantly by a 20something girl with a prince tattoo who was not having any or it), when I was walking to my car a very drunk young woman started running, ran right into me and fell flat. When I turned to ask if she was ok and tried to help her she started shouting 'why did you push me? Leave me alone you freak!'. The little sh*t could have really spoilt the evening if someone had heard her and believe that I had pushed her...

After reflecting a bit, I feel the sampler set went on way too long. It started to feel a little awkward after a while.

Spot on that. It was because of the malfunction when the sampler seemed to get stuck and prince started playing the bass. When he went back to the sampler the momentum was gone and it never recovered.

I would have liked more rock such as Bambi, crimson which were awesome at the academy. Good gig though

Having been to the Sheps Bush gig and then to the 1st night at Birmingham, do you feel he tried to simply copy the amazing experience at the intimate gig and transpose it to the larger arena platform and to an extent, some bits didnt work?

I've been to see Prince at Wembley Stadium, at Wembley arena, Earls Court, and lots of after shows, the koko club gig in 2007 etc.....and the long "jamming" we usually associate with the smaller, more relaxed after show/smaller gig scenaro where we dont mind long funk out / mad bass sessions are a little bit lost on the wider and larger arean gigs.

The audience was pretty flat on Thursday night, and Prince had a hard time keeping the crowd clapping etc. However when he played 1999, WDC, Purple Rain the place when "crazy" - everyone got up and bounced around.

It just strikes me, that big arean gigs will forever be the playground of the main stream hits.

Playing golden (purple) nuggets like Electric "shhhh - intercourse" and even Something in the Water (he tried to do with the crowd in Birmingham as he did in Sheps Bush) seem mainly lost on 95% of the crowd.

Ive seen Prince 19 times - i have to say SBE was the best gig ever.......i had high expectations for thursday but was left slightly underwhelmed by thursday......Dont get me wrong I loved the concert but it was interesting to see Prince try to shoe horn the winning formula of February into Part II.

Also agree about the sampler set. It seems a bit lazy, in the context of the standards he sets with live band. What happened re the malfunction? I was vaguely aware that something wasn't quite right, but can't remember the details of what happened, or even on what song.

A few points from someone two rows from the front where I could see all of Prince's expressions and reactions...

The sampler set seemed to come sooner than the band thought as he was having trouble with sweat running his eye make up into his eyes. He tried a towel but that didn't work so he went and sat by the keyboard to cool down. He then asked for a hat to stop the sweat.

I think this is why sampler sets went on longer. Also this is definitely the reason the beginning of a Purple Rain went on and on. He legged it offstage to sort out his eyes and change.

Drummer missed a couple of cues.

But all in all I thought it was a fucking great show. He was in a great mood. I was so close I could tell he wasn't wearing underwear... Seriously! No joke!!! His legs are so skinny!

Re Hannah's missed cues: added to some duffed notes I've heard from the bass player on some unofficial sources, does anyone else feel he's mellowed a bit with this band. I get the sense that younger Prince would have fired band-members for mistakes like these.

I was at thurs, fri and sat and they were all absolutely brilliant!!

Saturday was my fave because i was at the front (had to deal with a drunk during the wait, though). The Love We Make, The Ride, Do Me Baby, Plectrum Electrum, FunkNRoll, Live It Up, Screwdriver (as much as i hate the studio version), the amazing Bass solos were my fave.

However, i do get a tad deflated when 1999, TMWY, Purple Rain are played. I much prefer it when the setlist get's interesting for us hardcores.....What's My Name and Electric Intercourse at Birmingham sent me in a bit of a craze!!!!

lol I think you are the second to mention that in this thread

I have aways been curious how he can use do much energy and not seem to be affected by sweat, but obviously he does, I would have thought that a hat would make it worse.

Wonder what happened with Hannah, she is usually spot on?

I think it was after Screwdriver, he ended the song on the one like he usually does and waited for a few seconds while the crowd cheered, then he jerked his body for the beat to come back but she didn't. He span round really quick and shouted 'what happened?' with an angry look on his face, then she started playing lol

'Let's Work'

He played the bassline on Ida's bass and then said 'Come on, Let's Work' and the band just carried on. He stopped the music and went and spoke to them (it looked like Hannah was asking what they were going to play) and they went into 'Live It Up' instead, Prince did an eye roll and smiled.

Ok - so Prince Vault now has the girl down as Marissa Jack - still really none the wiser and cannae be arsed investigating it further. There was another sofa on our side (the Ida side) with another lady on it, not sure who she was either, althought she passed him his hat, but doubt he has a specific person just for that...
