Just going to echo what electricberet said. The DJ played a few new snippets of songs including a remix/rerecording of Superconductor and a few 3EG tunes. The stage was set up for Prince and 3EG after MPLS played, but nothing came of it. For what it's worth, MPLS was a lot of fun. By the end of their set, I think they'd won quite a few folks over. Bobby Z was there. They had the Mayweather fight playing in the L4OA room. It drew quite the crowd during MPLS' set. More of an MMA fan myself and what I saw of this fight didn't sway me. Hope everyone had a good time. Met a young college student who had just started coming out to PP for these shows and was converted to major fandom after seeing him play live. It's always nice to see people younger than myself joining the flock. Anywho, a good night, but here's to hoping he plays one more Paisley show before heading "across the pond"!

I think they could probably keep this going over the summer if they continue to book good acts like MPLS, but give a lot more notice so that people who want to come in from out of town don't have to pay outrageous last-minute fares. There is a market of fans who would like to experience a party at Paisley Park, with or without Prince, but when people face a choice between a long drive or a very expensive flight, you're mainly going to get people from the Twin Cities, and only if Prince shows up more regularly (because local fans have already had many opportunities to party at PP).

Also it would be nice to have some merch specific to these shows. The Hawaii box is a nice souvenir, as were the old T-shirts on sale, but if I'm going to come to more of these I'd like to get a PPAD poster or T-shirt.

These are just suggestions. I had fun this time and the first time I came (which was the first PPAD party). If this ends up being the end, it was nice while it lasted.

Can you please give us some details? Were they supposedly songs from plectrum electrum? Anything we know? Titles? Or are you generically referring to 3EG songs because they had female vocals? Thanks for clarifying

Apparently there was one new P song played, and the DJ announced new NPG music which was a few samples, from Josh's laptop.

The new Prince song was called "Shut It Down". Seemed like a 3EG track. Not a cover of the Public Enemy jam (although that would be pretty sweet!). The other songs had a female lead singer on them. Only snippets were played.

PPAD has some exciting news for next weekend, so stay tuned for our next show and some announcements biggrin

After MPLS played, they cleared all of their equipment. Then they brought out all the guitars and equipment and Prince came out and took one look at the stage and left again. I'm thinking he didn't want to play to a crowd that small. There were a group of about 50 people hanging out at the front of the stage, and maybe a 100 more lined up around the walls. Joshua and Hannah came out and played some snippets of some new songs. Only one had Prince's vocals. Sounded cool, but too short to really tell. Donna and Ida were dancing on the floor. They should have had a drum off between Bobby Z, Kirky J, and Hannah...now that would have been fun!

lol.... heres hopin this event continues on, I would love to go again this summer. theres certainly enough talent out there to keep the purple lighthouse supplied with fresh sounds. it's like a Minneapolis soul train, just fun to be a part of! last time I was almost overinspired by it all if such a thing is possible, so i'm curious to see what it does to me if theres a next time. Do you think more locals would attend if it cost less? Could be that's the lowest price they can ask to make it a financially sound event. To me its worth it, but i'm so strange...

i know this is something that is often hard for the purple family to do smile but this would have been the perfect opportunity for all 150 ppl in the room to work together in a roaring chant "Prince play Prince!" so loud that even someone outside on the street of Audubon Rd could hear you, I couldnt imagine Prince ignoring this and not wanting to put on a show regardless of the number of ppl in the room.

That is a good idea. I hope someone tries that if the situation happens again this Saturday. Looking at all those people staring at the empty stage, I kept thinking about Yoda's comment about Luke in The Empire Strikes Back:

.

"All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. "

.

I mean, if you're waiting for the purple Yoda to show up, you might as well do something, not just stand there.

lol we did this at the coffee table book release party in nyc a few years back, he performed, we chanted, he came back 25 mins later and played for another 30 mins, there were only 15-20 of us in the room everyone else left. the chanting seemed to have helped cuz it surely was over.

It's impossible to know what goes through Prince's mind at any given time, on any given day, so I could hardly say whether that number of people present influenced his decision to not play...but I've been at Paisley on at least three different occasions I can recall offhand where he played for a crowd of maybe 40-50 people. The first time I was (fortunately!) there for that was the very first time I was ever at a Paisley party and I was amazed he played for such a small crowd. That was a long time ago, though. Maybe he doesn't care to play for small crowds now. shrug I'm sure glad I was there for the times I was though; it's amazing to see him perform in such an intimate setting with so few people.

I have not yet seen him play at Paisley Park, but there were a lot of veterans there last night, and up until the end most people seemed to be taking it for granted that he was about to hit the stage at any moment. I don't think that will be a problem at the next party. lol

I've been going to Paisley Park since the early 90s, when you had to be personally invited to be there. The smallest crowd I ever saw was for Mayte's 21st birthday. It was held in the atrium and they played on a riser about a foot off the floor. There couldn't have been more than 50 people there. People have always just stood around staring at an empty stage. I remember one time the band took the stage and started playing and Prince started singing, but no one knew where he was. He was standing at the soundboard singing behind everybody. He eventually took the stage...but it was funny! Saturday night, it seemed pretty obvious that they intended on playing. They hurried up to clear the stage and bring out the guitars and pedalboards. Not sure if you saw Prince, or were even there, but like I said, he came out and took one look at the stage and turned around and walked out. It's his prerogative.

He came in through the double doors on the left hand side of the stage (if you're facing the stage). He stood there and looked towards the stage for a few seconds, then turned around and walked back out. Maybe they didn't have intentions of playing, maybe they were going to rehearse some more after everyone left. Hard to say.

Maybe he needed to talk to Bobby Z. Maybe he had an idea for a new song and wanted to record it right away. Maybe he had too much Captain Crunch and his tummy hurt. Who knows? I still had fun.

This Saturday a band called BluPrint is playing. They have announced free parking and $20 early admission:
