Ah...
So stuff is happening!
I do hope they do that song justice and rock it hard... Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

Cool! He went up around 1:30, did a ripping version of Bambi, a few new tracks that rocked, seemed to have some guitar issues so he went back to the sound guy to have some words. Then he went around and played drums, then bass, grooving on em! He steps out, looks at the girls, motions to end it, they all leave the stage. DJ starts back up again, within 10 minutes the bouncers are waving us out. My hunch is that he had some sound difficulties and cut the set prematurely. They were in the zone when they were going though! Anyone else have any insight? |

Finally...after 3 attempts I finally got to see the purple one. The evening started with dessa which was a little too mellow for a Saturday night IMO but still put on a good show. After they were finished people were allowed to stay in the main room which was a big change from Friday so I knew we were in for something good. After what seemed to be an eternity of the sound men checking and rechecking 3rdeyegirl's gear the lights went very dark at around 1:30. The girls came ou and jammed for about 5 minutes on an unknown song to me and then Prince appeared holding the new 3rdeyegirl album on vinyl! Very nice black and white artwork with a cool foldout showing the girls. I thought he was goin to give it to someone for a second but handed it to one of his techs instead. Once prince grabbed his guitar he immediately launched into Bambi...one I my all time favorite songs so I was in heaven. After Bambi I heard the opening notes of yet another of my favorite songs...Peach! Halfway thru the song Prince realized that one of he guitars was out of tune which started a string of technical difficulties. Donna actually tuned both hers and his guitars before the show so I felt really bad for her because I knew she would more than likely get an ass chewing later. Once peach was finished they launched into So Far So pleased which sounded awesome...especially with the guitars now in tune. . Fr the next song the band went into a funk jam with Prince on the keyboard. He dueled with Hannah back and forth then wen back and put on his guitar and nothing...no sound. He proceeded to mess with his pedals and ended up giving up and taking over the drums from Hannah then moved to the bass for a while. After he put down the bass he left the stage and came back for a second then made a cut throat gesture signaling the show was over. All in all an awesome 30 or so minutes and worth the hassle of missing him 3 other times. I just hope the next time his techs do a better job making sure all the gear is ready to go. Finally, I managed to peak at the setlist from a distance and noticed there were at least 10 songs...ugh what might have been but that's Paisley for u. [Edited 4/6/14 0:40am] |

Hey y'all. Yep I was there too. Man...it started out so Great. P appeared to be in a great mood, cracking a few jokes and interacting with the audience. The show started with rip roaring awesomeness...But then Donna got "the look" due to the guitars being out of tune. Later when P's guitar wasn't working....dude looked Pissed! I mean PISSED! P left the stage and came back and appeared to take out his anger on playing the U know what out of the drums and then the bass. That was it...the vibe was blown and the show was over. I wouldn't be surprised if someone lost their job tonight. I sure hope P gives it another try next weekend. |

Can one of the Paisley park techs step forward (anonymously if you like) and explain us, please? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

I am so bummed. I have only been able to go on Friday the last two weekends and of course I miss him both times. I'll live in my state of depression again today like I was last Sunday for missing such a good show. Now if next weekend I go Saturday night, he will probably play Friday with my luck. Ahh!
Glad you guys got to see it though. Very cool! Even with the sound problems. |

He only showed the album for a split second and I bet 75 percent of the people there didn't recognize the significance of it. As for the technical issues it was definitely a problem with Prince's guitar pedal board. It was very frustrating because the stage techs spent at least an hour checking and rechecking all the equipment. Like I stated before, even though the set was short it was totally worth it. I heard a rumor of a second set but I was almost positive they were asking everyone to leave but who knows. |

It's a shame that even in his own house, Prince is plagued with sound issues. Seems like it would behoove him to hire some professionals (which would mean paying professional rates). Sound issues have become more and more common in his concerts over the last decade, and now even at Paisley his people (probably 18-year-old girls he met on Twitter) can't figure out how to make his guitar work. Kinda sad. No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

We were even joking about it. At one point my friend leaned over and said, whew, they're finally all off the stage (referring to the techs) and I replied "But they have to come out and shine their little flashlight on the drumkit one more time! And then maybe the front mic." Lo and behold, that's what happened. And continued happening for another 20 minutes.
Overall I had a good time and while it wasn't the ideal set it was nice to hear nonetheless.
I really enjoyed Dessa's set and the DJ (while maybe not the smoothest on transitions) played a great selection.
And they were indeed asking people to leave, which was weird, cause they could have just turned off the music and thrown the houselights up and people would have known what that meant. We were up in the front left corner and one of the security dudes was walking up to everyone individually and saying "We're closed now, so please make your way to the exit".
Which reminds me - P walked on and off stage by us and the first time I did a little swoon.
I don't know if very many of you in the crowd caught that when he was coming back after he went back to address the sound issues at the board some chick, dragging her man behind her from the middle of the pit, bumrushed him, gushing "I love you" and nonsense. She woulda knocked him over if one of the PP workers hadn't gotten there just in time to block her. It was ridiculous. Some people.

And if it *had* been a "full on production gig," the excuse would be that it was that venue's fault. As for your earlier comment, yes Prince certainly does have more sound issues than other artists. I follow many as closely as I follow him, and these constant sound problems are not the norm.
I'm not even sure how it not being a "full on production gig" (whatever you mean by that) is relevant, anyway. It was a live show, at his studio, with all of his equipment, controlled entirely by him. Like udo said, Prince only has one guitar pedal board, and if it fails then he can't play? That's...bizarre.

What's also kinda sorta bizarre regarding the techincial failure is that this wasn't the Lovesexy tour...it was 2 guitars, a base, drums and a keyboard and they were all hard wired. No wireless to deal with.
I think part of the problem was having the opening band playing first on the same stage and then having the tech guys try and set up for Prince in the dark. Maybe he was testing them. Who knows? Does anyone else find it odd that P had Donna tune his guitar for him? Maybe that was test as well? |
