Look like the set list from tonight's LA show is far better than the set lists he done in Manchester UK.

I wish he had brought over the NPG to the UK, lets hope he will in the Summer

I know what your saying but I do prefer the horn /funk sound than heavy guitars

That is my preference

Not this one. It was the best of several worlds. This edition of NPG Horns is insane, even if they overpower 3rdEyeGirl, who came into their own in the stretch. What a night, what a party!

Started at about 10:20pm, ended at about 2 (original time without the spring forward), so approximately 3 hours 40 minutes from start to finish.

Just home from the Palladium. I didn't have my phone to checj the times but I think he probably had to end at 2AM (prior to spring-foarward time, which I am tolf does NOT allow bard to stay open later). And I'm gonna guess he started in the neighborhood of 10pm. So a four hour gig? Crimony, I couldn;t remain standing for all of it, I was upstairs onthe patio outdoors for a good part of the time between 8pm and the start, It was too late to get right up to the stage, but, the press to the the front was only about 10 deep at that point. I would say the Palladium was at about half to two thirds capacity; I have seen sold out shows where you couldn't hardly get upstairs to the bathroom, while for this one, you could walk right into a stall, shortly before showtime. I guess LA isn;t down with the hit and run concept.

Well too bad for them, it was outstanding. Unlike the 3rd Eye Girl show in Anahaeim (Bambi. EndorphineMachine, She's Always In My Hair type set), this was all horns except for some of the multiple encores. Special guest tonight ws Doug E Fresh who rapped and human-beatboxed while Prince played bass, in one of the coolest segments of the night. I believe Prince did not pick iup a guitar till the very last encore, which was the slow Lets Go Crazy into Funk N Roll.

OK So the setlist... not complete & not strictly in order

Did andy allo get on stage with Liv or P? Heard she was there!

Andy was sitting with Prince in a VIP booth. She didn't come on stage. Prince came on stage briefly and wiped Liv's brow with a handkerchief....lol

I wish he would tour and announce the shows that are 3rdeyegirl and the ones that are NPG so that we could pick which one we want to see. Two nights in each city(one with each band would be cool). I want to see the 3rdeyegirl show and if I went and got the NPG show I would be very disappointed so I wish he would announce it so the fans could pick which ones they want to see. That way the rock fans could see the rock show and R&B fans can get their show. Just a hope that Prince would consider this. I know some people would go to both but I could care less about the R&B show and I am sure R&B fans could care less about the rock show. This way everyone wuld know what to expect and would be happy

I completely agree with you, and I'm not sure why he doesn't do this. I would kill to see 3rdEyeGirl but not at all interested in seeing the tired old NPG again💞...

doug e fresh's dj set ALMOST ruined my entire night.

I left an hour early. Missed the sampler. Not upset I did.

Prince with 3rdeye for an hour is a better show than him playing conductor.

I'm sure it was a good show but I'd prefer 3rd eye too . I want to see prince scorch on guitar. The LA Troubador show & many like shows I've seen have ruined me & my expectations . The horns are great when they augment the arrangement like he did during the Act 1 tour in 93 but the way he's using them now it seems like overkill . Also the fact that it was mostly a "hits "gig makes me glad I missed it. Don't get me wrong every prince show has it's highlights no matter but I'd rather see one of the greatest guitar players on the planet then a bandleader throwing up cues left & right while waving a towel to cool down a horn player. Especially when the bandleader is Prince.

Every time I hear of any other gig that's happened recently it pisses me off that I queued for 11 hours and witnessed how little time, thought and energy he put into the first KOKO gig a few weeks back...the set list was utter bogstandard and consisted of ONLY the songs every other show as a basic (19 songs inc brief samples on piano). Compared to the other hit and run shows from London and Manchester it was insultingly short gig that it was £70; the dude tried to get us to leave after 80minutes to make way for his celeb friends and a 2.5-3hr show, had that not got booed we wouldn't have stretched to 90 minutes...and then you get reports of the latest gigs breing 3-4 times longer again.

I saw both NPG and 3rdeyegirl in 2013 and to me Prince as always is one of the best performer.BUT

my thought is that:

3rdeyegirl: both Hanna and Donna are not GREAT musicians (at least not in the same league of Prince:Donna plays the same licks at every solo and Hannah seems "flat").the keys by Joshua are embarassing.

I remember the show he plays in 2009 with Sonny T and Michael B,to me is on another level even with one guitar less,or Montreux 2009:with Blackwell,Rhonda Smith and Renato neto,or the Crimson and Clover performance with Sheila E and Rhonda Smith....I think these girls are playing with Prince because their costs is not so high and because Prince likes the idea of an "all female" group.Ida is a great player.

NPG: the horns are good but a little bit too much, the backup singers are boring, imho. Hannah and Donna arenot Funk at all.

Mike Scott as ryhthm guitarist back in the day was FUNKY.

Prince likes to change musicians, but the current choices are not the best, imo.

My dream NPG band is: Michael B,Sonny T,Mike Scott,Renato neto,Mike Philips,Greg Boyer (and Maceo when available) and new backing vocalists.

Rock: Michael B,Sonny t and Prince (mike scott 2nd guitar)

Sorry for my rant,of course the most important thing is that Prince is still around playing shows!

Having left my house at 1130 in the morning and waiting in LA all day, I was exhausted an hour before he began. I was a zombie as I was leaving the place. I left an hour early.

Fucking dj set. filled with expletives. So that's okay, but Prince cant' play Darling NIkki? bullshit. If you saw me, I'm sure you'd remember me. I was the guy who was looking most pissed off during doug's spinning. Sorry, I wasn't there to hear a recording.

The drummer may be the most beautiful girl in the world.

I would have loved to see the piano set, but I don't know if I would have been able to drive home safely after that.

I know we are all different, but is it anyone's idea of a good time when there are 4-5 horn solos a song?

[Edited 3/9/14 4:28am]

This was right after "Don't Stop" but before "Cool." For me it was the strangest part of the set. It almost stoped the concert for the people around me. At first I thought Prince was simply showing Donna the lick he wanted her to play, however, after awhile, it almost seemed as if Prince left the building. I mean, his back was to the audience, his attention focused on Hannah and the guitar and it almost seemed like he forgot he was in the middle of a concert. This all happened at the rear of the stage so it was hard to see what was going on. Even Donna seemed caught off-guard over what was taking place. I think Prince had given some instructions to Hannah, but only a few words. Most of the time he was playing the guitar--but he way he played it. Oh the way he played it. It didn't appear to me to be a simple matter of Prince really being into the guitar solo. He almost seemed in a trance for a few minutes. He seemed like a man on a mission--to "get these sounds out of my head." My conclusion is that Prince was essentially writing a song in his head based on the groove he was feeling. I could be totally wrong about this, but that was impression. It was just an odd 5-7 minutes, yet kind of cool if he actually was "composing in his head." Oh, at the end of these few minutes, he seemed to recompose himself (pun not intended) and went back to the mic for "Cool." Anybodyelse find those few minutes strange? He didn't pick up the guitar until the end of the show.
