Metro piece on Ronnie Scotts
Sorry for the new thread, the harping about where someone was or wasn't pretty much killed the original Ronnie Scotts thread.
This is what passes for journalism these days...
http://metro.co.uk/2014/02/19/jazz-fans-furious-after-ronnie-scotts-gig-cancelled-to-make-way-for-prince-and-a-bunch-of-celebs-4309720/
Jazz fans furious after Ronnie Scott’s gig cancelled to make way for Prince and ‘a bunch of celebs’Prince’s surprise Brits spectacle was overshadowed by a furious backlash from jazz fans who have complained he has been treading on their turf while in town. Really? 2 days later? The diminutive star was left fire-fighting on all fronts as other fans hissed his inflated ticket prices are a rip-off. I'm pretty sure he didn't care, the numbers in the queue made sure of that.
The backlash came when jazz enthusiasts and performers were left outraged on Monday night when the 55-year-old music legend took over London’s iconic jazz venue Ronnie Scott’s – forcing a weekly jazz night to be cancelled. Sorry this wasn't Ronnie Scott's venue decision to say 'What, Prince want's to play here, yes please!'?
‘I am a UK jazz musician who regularly plays and attends the Late Show at Ronnie Scott’s. Last night the band on the Late Show was cancelled to make way for Prince and a bunch of celebs,’ complained musician Allison Neale after Prince took over the venue to entertain the likes of Adele, Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne. Agreed there were celebs, don't care for them myself, but there were fans there too, quite a lot of them.
‘They would never normally be seen anywhere near the club… least of all attending a jazz gig there,’ she went on. True, but it wasn't a jazz gig, it was Prince. You wouldn't have gone to see him if you could have got in?
Fellow fan Derek Ansell agreed, adding: ‘Ronnie is likely spinning in his grave at this moment!’ ‘What leaves a more sour taste is the fact that you had celebrities turning up at the 11th hour and taking places ahead of genuine fans who had queued for hours,’ James Goldsmith also moaned. Meanwhile, other fans are furious he is charging up to £70 for his gig tickets. Ronnie Scott probably would have been jumping over himself to get Prince. Agree with the celebs comment, but it was £35 to get in not £70, though I would have paid that and was going to it was the advertised price.
‘His press conference promised cheap tickets at £10 and after a couple of shows he abandoned it for £70!’ dedicated Prince fan Anthony Kenealy gripes online. I only paid £70 once at Koko, but would have paid a lot more to see him in these small venues, especially Kings Place which I queued for but got there too late! EB was £10 and RS was £35. The gripe is just that.
‘It feels like they rock up to the venue, have a look at numbers in crowd then decide on a price at last min heads 10 tails 70 ok!!’ Not even close to the truth. Prince doesn't owe anyone a concert at any price, he let people in for FREE towards the end of Koko's 2nd gig, and people still moaned about that.
Prince has been playing a number of ‘intimate’ gigs in the capital this month in support of his new music – using guerrilla tactics for his events by announcing venues on the day he plays. I have really enjoyed the buzz and meeting some great fans in the queue. Do I love being cold for 12 hours, no, but Prince has been amazing at every place I saw him. So much raw energy, good fun and stellar musicianship.
Is it so hard to be positive about these gigs??

AND SO THE MEDIA BACKLASH BEGINS...
Ahh the good old British Media, don't ya just luv them. Tey start off lauding Prince and his approach. No doubt he refused a Metro journalist an interview or something and so...slag him. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

The Metro is an awful pile of shite, I have been saying it since I moved to London a few years ago. I sometimes think it exists to calm people down on their morning commute with some nonsense about whatever. If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Furthermore, the band lined up to play on Monday were not cancelled. They performed first as a warm-up, so this is total conjecture by The Metro, or Daily Mail Lite as it would be more honestly titled.

Probably one of THE most candid constructive comments I've seen on any forum since P. arrived.
'dre Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

I know what you mean. I suppose that snoozepapers and scagazines need a fresh angle on this 'guerilla gig' escapade, and what better way to get punters attention than saying how much Prince supposedly hates his fans
The super soaraway Sun has chipped in as well, with a report on how Adele left after only 10 minutes, and how Noel Gallagher said the gig was 'shit' (sounds like the kind of thing he might say, but then again tweeters on the scene say he was acting like a crazy fanboy inside the gig...) Preview at

Adele was definitely there when the gig was over, because I saw her when I was leaving. She is quite striking in person, I actually didn´t realise it was her until read the reports the next day. Newspapers always chasing circulation!

Noel wouldn't have gone if he didn't rate Prince. i imagine he did actually say shite, but in a sarcastic way - and the press have taken it as fact.
