I know this sounds odd, but after last night, I don't know if I want to try for another hit and run on this tour. Might wait for larger shows. Others will be great, but the chance of him pulling two out like that are slim.

Not odd at all. My wife said to my bleary-eyed self this morning "So, are you going to try and do that again next weekend" and I genuinely said I don't think anything will top that for a while. Just amazingly contented and blown away.

I've loved every incarnation of Prince I've seen in the UK and am very partial to his soul, rnb, pop influences but there was one kind of show I was missing from my memory banks - an all out rock/funk-rock show.

I said to a guy next to me last night "stick a fork in me, I'm done" lol

Were you the guy i was high fiving and singing our hearts out to colonized mind??

If so, hello! I didnt get a chance to say goodbye, but it was great to have a singing partner to some of the lesser known songs.....we kept saying it couldnt get any better, but it just kept getting better. Good to have met you!

So no sign of anything going on outside Shepherd's Bush Empire? Highly unlikely anyway seeing the loading up from last night...

That was the greatest show I have ever seen. My tenth time seeing Prince and he still managed to blow me away and exceed all expectations.

Jesus H Christ. He absolutely torched the place last night. Insanity. Pure and utter insanity. I may never come down from this high.

If I get time, I might try to do a review, though I am sure it wont really add to anything that hasnt already been said.

As a hardened Prince fan having seen him countless times both in concert and aftershows (the indigo lounge on the final 21 night residency will linger long and was simply epic) I heard about the gig around 2.00pm. Living in Ipswich, Suffolk, its not that far to drive, so with an understanding wife, i jumped in the car (2 kitkats and a coke zero as my only sustinance) and sped down the A12. Dumped the car at Shenfield and hopped onto the train to Stratford, Central line train to Shephards Bush. Joined the queue after sprinting from the tube station I joined at number 610 (according to the security guy with his clicker.

I met 4/5 other singletons in the queue and we all got very friendly (which is a credit to Prince fans in general) - 2 of which were seeing Prince for the first time! (WOW!)

Sadly whilst in the queue for 3 hours together, we never swapped names - so to the 50p cup of tea guy, to the closet peter andre fan and her friend, to the Bread guy and the other with his wife and 3 girls at home, I was very pleased to spend that time with you and quite sad we split up at the point of entry. To the 2 who were popping their Prince cherry .....OMGoodness! I hope you had a funky time!

When I was eventually inked up I wore the badge of 866 so sadly my early 610 had been usurped by i guess a few queue jumpers, but that isnt a dig, as I was told that I was definitely in, so was just happy about that.

Getting in was a little stressful ..... the closest thing to experience what a sheep does as we were herded into various openings and barked at to pay the lady!

Amazing that from £70 it was reduced to £10 - (bought a T-shirt with the extra saved) and even Prince asked us all how much we paid? and then later suggesting we wanted a lot for our "$10..." Hilarious.

Although this is now reading like a review - sorry, I just wanted to thank those in the queue that suffered me for 3 hours, to the people i stood behind and sang my heart out to every song - to the guy I high fived all the time when he played a track we didnt expect (Colonized Mind / Endorphinmachine etc) To the lovely couple I shared a drink with right at the end before heading off and the 2 guys I chatted to on the tube.

Being on my own never felt so unlonely. Everyone I encountered was friendly, warming and engaging. I respected Princes request for no photos etc, so cant share any, but save to say, as a battled hardened Prince fan, that was truly THE best gig I've ever bourne witness to.

If ever Prince lost his mojo............he has certainly re-discovered it. 3rd eye girl rocked it and he seems to be re-energsied by them.

We all know what we get from Prince at a gig/concert. He owns the stage, you and everything in and on it for the duration. You cant help but become submissive. Resistance is futile.

But, with 6 (i think) Encores, with such energy and verve, with some many songs, to see him take the bass and funk it, to be teased with so many one or two bars of various song as he played the piano.........

He was cheeky, funny, serious, engaging, playful........he was Amazing! Breathtaking, awe inspiring and i guess what I am trying to say (badly) is there isnt enough superlatives to describe what i was a part of last night.

As came through my door at 1.15am (still humming dreamer/bambi) I fell onto my sofa with the widest, biggest, cheesiest smile on my face. Prince, thank you. Thank you for a performance which now sets a bar i couldnt think could get any higher, higher.

Blown away was i over it all, it was hard to comprehend what i had just witnessed and all for a tenner.

I am not a regular poster to the forum although i do enjoy logging in daily and reading posts.

Many orgers have commented on last night more eloquently than me, have provided blow by blow accounts, set lists and even pictures. I offer nothing more than my small (now review).

Those contemplating travelling for the next one, do so. Who knows if he will announce a "proper" tour, but to my fellow "friends" made last night, i was privileged to have briefly met you and to share such a wondrous experience.

Rejoice with me, There are no kings in this world, only princes!

Im off to set up a twitter account.

Thank you for reading, im sorry it went on and on!

That is exactly what I am doing at the moment, so my imminent arrest is getting a bit closer.

Great story and review, thanks for sharing.

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Agreed.

I've seen him about 15 times and this was by far the best. Easily the single greatest show I've seen by anyone.

To say it was 'the gig of my life' would not be an over-statement.

Shepherds Bush was the best Prince concert I've ever seen (and I've seen many). In fact, it was the greatest gig I've witnessed from anyone.

Pure blazing, dazzling genius. The emotional intensity and energy was through the roof.

So jealous, it sounds incredible. I have to ask, how did Adore and How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore sound live?

They sounded brilliant, but then again, so did everything else - he was on such brilliant form.

I statused "In F**king Sane @ Shepards Bush Empire" on FB during Lets Go Crazy.

Got home and realised I had it on a private setting, was about to make it public when my GF pointed out the spelling.

Will look forward to the blog.

Hell no dress code. I'd have been screwed if that was the case as I dropped everything the second I found out yesterday to be at the venue within the hour of the announcement. I turned up with greasy hair, no make-up and dirty jeans sad

yeah, thats the spirit. When the announcement was made yesterday, my GF said ok, I will go with you but I have to wash my hair. Problem was, the immersion timer had been mysteriously switched off. I cant go my hair is all greasy, I just laughed and told her it is not the royal family we are going to see. It was odd, this is a girl that has been at festivals all over Europe.

Maybe she didn't want to go, the queuing etc is not everyones cup of tea. I certainly didnt smell like a bed of roses by the time we got in, which was certainly abit embarrassing. I had a spare t-shirt in my rucksack, but i wasnt going to risk losing my place on the floor to change into it. So to the rest of crap that must be in the rucksack, such as phone charger, and tablet in case i lose the phone or battery dies, I can now add a roll on. smile

BTW, I think I saw you after the show near the merchandise stand.

Not me I'm afraid. I slipped out by the side, nowhere near the merchandise.

Yeah! twas me! Nice to have met you too cool

High fives and a high ten at one point (which song was that for?) wink

Hopefully our "harmonies" won't appear on any bootlegs coming soon but man we sang ourselves hoarse.

I'd already read your original post through once and missed the bit about high-fiving doh! I'll blame it on lack of sleep.

^^ great photo!
He's wearing something else in the other photos.
Love all the smoke.
Sounds similar to what he did in L.A. with 3rdeyegirl, except it seems they are much better now (the girls have have more time - if you remember the reviews around that time the girls weren't that solid), and the show was about 90 minutes (he was doing 2 back to back each night), and it cost me $200!
Very envious of you all over there in London...
