I'm wondering if they're working to secure a larger venue with properly organised ticketing. Especially since the Electric Ballroom shows got such massive media coverage, I don't see how they can really get away with more small capacity 'guerilla' shows. After the buzz of EB, more and more people will flock to any future events that get announced. The only way they could really get away with a surprise gig, would be to do it with really short notice, but then they run the risk of hardly anyone being able to get there and it falling flat.

I'm really hoping that the EB shows have served their purpose in getting the news out there and if the weekend passes without any surprise events, I'm even more sure that bigger venues are being sorted. Or maybe that was the plan all aling and the EB shows were just fantastic marketing and events for general publicity. There's no way they actually came here thinking they couldn't fill venues like the Brixton Accademy, the last time he came here properly he sold out the O2 for 21 nights.

I dunno, something is brewing though.

I think similar shows to the other night are off the table too now.

I'm thinking along these lines. Maybe EB was spontaneous, but just to get the hype going for other shows that have been in place for ages?

Kiran Sharma posted a picture today of a venue with a sign saying Shoreditch Grind Prince please play here. Matt Everitt the BBC reporter who was at Lianne La Havas just posted that George Clinton is doing an interview at Shoreditch House at 5pm. Probably coincidence but curious.

He is welcome to come to NYC with the girls and do as many surprise shows as he wants! Just leave Shelby and the horns out of it.

it's weird though. as far as I am concerned, Prince concerts here will always be a major event so he doesn't need to scrabble around generating interest. the guerilla approach I don't understand. I reckon he would have got 5 star reviews for his live performances whatever. So whats the deal with the no advance warning gigs? he is so enigmatic and charismatic and global he doesnt need to court publicity - he doenst need to work it.....I mean, I dont know how these things are organised, but Prince is a SURE FIRE HIT....

Typically he hasn't fared well with the critics when he's not performing the hits. The Gold Tour got a lot of complaints due to a lack of hits, as did the ONA tour. He's done this in such a way that there's no expectation of a regular Prince show, so people that don't know any better are going along in a different mindset and being blown away.

Your right they were a success in europe as was Lovesexy tour, but in the usa it was different story.

Thats why i belive he does the better shows in europe.

Not sure where you are getting your facts from. There was no Gold Experience Tour in The USA (he did not even tour in The US from 94-96 - he just played at Glam Slam, Paisley Park & a few benefits - his next tour in '97 - The Jam Of The Year was the weakest one that I ever saw), The Lovesexy Tour was a huge sucess in The USA and he definitely does not do better shows anywhere - he does great shows everywhere. I have not seen him in Europe but I have dozens of recorded shows incl the 21 nights and none are any better than the shows that I have seen in NYC or any US recordings. As for these current shows, I believe he's having fun and the shows are sold out so what's the problem? (let me guess - you can't seem to get into the shows) Everyone tries to put him in this box, they think he should do things like everyone else does but he refuses. That is what makes him so great! I would love if he came to NYC and did this type of thing.

I agree, Prince we love him in the UK/London /Europe but No Way would his shows be better than his US gigs due to the fact he is an American the small cultural change shows in his performances....

that said .... Prince understands like Jimi Hendricks, Motown artists etc..our UK/European passion and fandom for his music - which is far greater than the US - Hits or Not - Chart Placings or Not! , New Artist or Goldern Oldie
