dude i agree with a lot of what you say generally but come on. You can't go calling his bands barely rehearsed!, as for comparing him to his old hungry self in 1982 - really!, name me any artist that is as good now as they were 30+ years ago!. Have watched some clips from the 1st 2 shows in this series & it just seems like one big fun party jam..ain't nowt wrong with that!! We know the score with P, he does what he wants when he wants - by now there is little point in complaining..there's wayyyyy too much great music out there to be hanging on for SOTT v2 !!

Sounds like Bart is wishing it was 1982,that gets my award for the silliest statement at the end of 2013,I mean Bart is really comparing 2 shows that are 30 years apart?....yeah...again...dumb ass statement!

I know he didn't perform, but are you saying he didn't even appear? "Never let nasty stalkers disrespect you. They start shit, you finish it. Go down to their level, that's the only way they'll understand. You have to handle things yourself."

Excellent main set. After show for the price was a joke and the main reason I will never give him another cent. People walked out cussing and bullshit and saying the same thing.

That is what Eye don't understand! Why nobody likes the sampler sets? U get to hear Prince sing without the band over his OWN beats! Then U get to hear the instrumental versions(which is rare) of his classic "MasterPieces", with Prince alone as the main DJ! Behind a state of the art sampler. Its a rare glimpse of a genius at work... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

BartVanHemelen said: Just listened to a tape of the first hour of the show of the 27th: unmitigated rubbish. A band that sounds barely rehearsed, endless medleys and jams, a predictable and boring song selection, an overdose of pointless covers (mostly for the benefit of "showcasing" the backing singers), Prince shouting instead of singing,...
I hope Prince watches that 1982 performance that "leaked" a couple of days ago, and hangs his head in shame. What 1982 performance? ? "Do you really know what love is?"

Someone wrote he was there at the club sitting somewhere with Janelle and some band members..I agree that for that price he should have played at least 2 songs himself... at least! I don't think the people there cared to see liv, shelby and doug e fresh so much [Edited 12/30/13 7:25am]

Sorry, just to be clear: Is "Played" the name of a new song, or did you mean that he played "Funk n Roll"?

Just got an email from Ticketmaster that they are refunding the money from the aftershow/afterparty last night. It says it was "cancelled."
Anyway, during the concert the guy called that took our names and numbers on Saturday offered us a "VIP pass" to the after party. Had already bought a ticket so I sold it to someone and used that to enter.
Had he played, it would have been a great aftershow/party because the rest of it was great. People were pissed that they spent all that money and he didn't play so I guess enough complained and they are refunding the money. I think there were 300 tickets sold so that's about $45,000 it cost him/the casino plus whatever other expenses because he didn't go up there and play a couple of songs---sad.
Anyway, all in all it was a great three days and a great venue to hear Prince. It added to the experience to walk around the place all weekend and hear his music over the intercoms. see his posters all over and see his videos playing in the record store there non-stop. Hope he returns. Only negative is that I had hoped over the course of the three nights or aftershow he would have played his new songs like Screwdriver and Breakfast can Wait along with Endorphine Machine and Bambi at least once since they have been playing those all over.
I bought my ticket through Ticketmaster so I suppose for those who bought theirs direct from the venue they should contact the box office or go to the box office if they are still there for a refund.

Just to add, Prince ripped that guitar to shreds when be played 'Something in the water does not compute'. I hope he puts that live version up for sale. My sister was amazed by his guitar playing. Also have to give props to Donna and Ida because it was cool when prince, Donna and Ida stood side-by-side on stage playing their guitars together. Cool image. That would make a cool poster. Trying to put words to how I felt abot the Saturday show. Bear with me, this could be cathartic for me.
Prince fan since 1999 (the album, not year). Too many concerts to count in too many eras. Last show I was at (before Saturday night) was the final show of his Las Vegas residency at Rio in 2007. Meh. But still better than most other entertainers. Sure, I'd love to hear nothing but old stuff, or obscure things. But that's just not going to happen at this point. I haven't really loved most of his output the past 13 years either (I think I'm one of the few that loved The Rainbow Children but that voice is still annoying). A couple things here and there I liked. And as always, it's still better than most other music today.
I've read reviews of shows over the last few years and I always think that the covers are annoying and the set list is devoid of anything interesting (recently the Musicology Tour spoiled me I guess). But I wasn't going to pass up a chance at seeing him only 2 1/2 hours away from home in Albany. So my wife and I went Saturday night to Mohegan Sun not expecting a great show (which is a relative statement of course). And the show was exactly what I expected according to previous reviews. What I didn't expect was how much freaking fun I had! Even when I look at the set list I think that it doesn't look like a great show. But you really have to be there.
The versions of Something In The Water and ICNTTPOYM were spectacular. Plectrum Electrum...wow! The piano solo is still similar to the One Night Alone shows. The sampling bit was new (to me) and I enjoyed it. I felt like there weren't as many covers as in the past. The opening bit with a few was fun though. It really was one big party. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I think that not seeing him in over 6 years definitely helped. Thinking of some of the tours in the last 15 years I marvel at how different the New Power Soul, One Night Alone, Musicology and 3121 Vegas shows were from each other. This newest incarnation shows P being much more James Brown-like in his band leading. But he still shreds like he always has.
I don't know what my point is. I guess I just need to reconcile the fact that it's not 1984 anymore. Don't expect a Lovesexy or SOTT tour again. Accept the incredible musicianship. Accept that he's going to play Let's Go Crazy, Raspberry Beret, Take Me With U. And just try to enjoy the ride. And maybe you'll find yourself unexpectedly entertained. I know I did.
