My faith in the longevity of the Purple Yoda has been uplifted...not necessarily by the performance...but rather by the fact that he can still pull in a crowd ready & willing to WAIT SEVEN HOURS to catch a glimpse of his funk.

Thanks to everyone with their post-concert reports!
I love reading all of them.
I dream of one day getting a chance to see a concert at PP. I would wait 7 hours! But I think I won't get a chance until my kids are older - hope he's still going strong then.
I've read several reviews online, and funny that those and some reports here mention the eclectic bunch that Prince fans are! I noticed the same thing at the 3rd eye girl concert here in L.a. - an assorted bunch, more varied than fans of other acts which tend to be more of a uniform "type." That's part of the fascination in going to a Prince concert - to see who else shows up and how so many are nothing like you... Except you all love prince. Funny.

All great reviews. Makes me so sad not to have been there. But glad he's still going strong.

From the Current's review:

Prince had a keyboard set up at the edge of the stage and seemed like he was going to sit down and play it at one point, but the only time he picked up an instrument was for a fiery solo at the end of “Musicology” and leading into a punchy medley of “Love Rollercoaster” and “Play That Funky Music.”

Are there any other musicians here on the Org that always go to Prince show really wanting him to play an instrument?

It seems these type of shows are very popular with most all Orgers, while whenever I read that he didn't play, it makes me feel that I didn't miss much.

His bands are great, but I've spent my entire life (and most of my career) around incredible musicians. If I go see any artist or band, I'm listening to everything and everyone. The difference with Prince is simply that I go to see him play... ideally it would be guitar, bass, keys, AND drums. He did a lot of this during his "20ten" tour in Europe, but he doesn't do this in the US for some strange reason.

Prince is allowed to explore his different entertaining options on stage. He has good showmanship! James Brown played instruments. But didn't in his live performances. Why can't Prince? I'm sure he gets tired of doing the same things in concert live & needs to switch it up & let others shine..

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Prince is "allowed" to do whatever he wants to do. I was simply writing about what I like. I'm not wired the same as most folks. If Prince decided to just play solo piano, I'd be cool. Just instrumental jazz explorations, GREAT. How about an hour with Prince on Bass? I'm down, especially if I'm playing Funk rhythm guitar. Although Prince is a fantastic band leader and vocalist, I just love witnessing his instrumental skills and impeccable rhythm. What gets me the most excited at a Prince show? When he gets behind the drum kit or straps on a bass guitar. Of course guitar and keys get me too, but that goes without saying, even though I just did.

Prince is equally gifted at doing everything. Singing, dancing & playing multi instruments. He could do any of them or one and it would be good for me. Plus your not the only musician on here rolleyes . I play also!

Yes! This. A thousand times THIS! One of the best Prince concerts I caught was a Hollywood show with no vocals AT ALL. I think he was performing the NEWS album?? Some in the crowd were disappointed but I was hypnotized from start to finish by his skills on guitar. I love Prince but I think we can admit that his singing and dancing aren't what they once were, naturally (no shade). Why not focus more on his amazing guitar/drums/piano/bass playing chops?

IMO, I have never felt that Prince is equally great in all areas. I love his voice, but his singing falls in second on my list of his stage skills, and his dancing last. (MJ was the dancing pro) Where Prince has always stood apart, for me, is in his ability to create and play music. I feel like this is what makes him stand apart. He is a true artist in his ability to compose and perform his style, and yes, the way he plays his instruments is separate and unique to other musicians.

That's just how I feel.

Prince, the New Power Generation, & 3rdEyeGirl. $50 donation at the door. Doors at 9 p.m., Saturday, October 5. Paisley Park Studios, 7801 Audubon Rd., Chanhassen. No alcoholic drinks allowed, no cell phones, no cameras, no reentry. No parking on site, except for handicapped. Details for a shuttle will be coming shortly.

So I guess we can only buy tickets at the door?

The show was an amazing experience for me!!! My first time going to Paisley Park, my second time seeing him perform live, and my first time seeing him up close at a private party with 3rd Eye Girl.
